The crossover is jab followed by a change of direction. Imagine you are still stationary doing just a jab on someone. If you jab to the right, the defender would shift to the right, jab to the left, the defender shifts to the left. If you jab to either left or right, defender shifts to the side you jabbed to, the drove to the opposite side, you would leave the defender and made a crossover. That's the basic fundamentals of a crossover, which MJ just taught.
