  • That verse always perplexed me until I visited an Adventist church one day and the baptism for the dead topic was discussed during Sabbath School. It really helped me see that verse from a Christian perspective.

  • "The LDS believe that water baptism is necessary to enter into heaven"

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God."

  • cleansed by the word of God - called water

  • "cleansed by the word of God - called water "

you call the word of God water?

so in ACTS where it says the word of God grew and multiplied you think it means water grew and multiplied?????

  • Water can symbolize cleansing from sins. see john 15,3

  • "Water can symbolize cleansing from sins. see john 15,3 "

which implies repentance! Something EVANGELICALS seem to dismiss in their I only have to have faith to be saved pronouncements!

  • Eph 2, 8-9

  • "Eph 2, 8-9 "

    James 2:14 explains it better!

  • Thats the only verse that can be implied to your idea of faith and works for salvation. The passage is talking about faith.. not works, but faith. Talking about that faith is shown by works. If you have faith but is still living in sin - you have not faith in the first place. Born again people are saved by faith - and has become new creatures in Christ - therefore - works will naturally come from the believer - like the duck naturally quaks. Faith saves - works confirm faith

  • "Thats the only verse that can be implied to your idea of faith and works for salvation."

NO, but if that were it should be enough. Mormons use the ENTIRE Bible!! That verse clarifies wrong doctrine being taught in the Church.

    We shall start out simple!

Does one need baptism for salvation or just faith? Are we saved by grace and therefore don't need baptism?

  • Baptism is good, but not needed for salvation

  • "Baptism is good, but not needed for salvation "

so was Jesus kidding when he said this

"Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God"

so baptism is a futile ordinance for salvation?

  • cleansing from sins... as I said... You can watch the episode on baptism I posted... It explains it rather good...

  • I was about to reply to Omilo regarding his James 2:8-9 comment, then I saw you already had, and you said it better than I was thinking. Amen brother!
