You can't possible be thinking different if you're choosing to go with a mac. You'll only end in hell and regret your mistakes for choosing apples restriction shit.
You seriously can change more preferences and do a lot more productively and creatively in a mac, rather than windows.
Theres not issues with drivers and crashing when you're rushing to get something printed in time, easier tools to use to get the job done quicker and at a more proeffessional slant, better media apps for free that are easy to use, but technical when you need it, and software for macs are cheaper (office £399, iWork £55.)
Set up a very light client running a minimal debian install with fluxbox for the window manager and you can breathe life back into a computer decades old. And I've noticed that the computers you get rid for that new Windows box run as fast as that new box once you put an OS on it that doesn't waste resources. Ubuntu and Fedora are the newbie friendly version, but to get it done right go Slackware, Debian, Gentoo or build from scratch and get a system that really flies.

No, the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who *stay crazy*. Especially if they think they can do so by using fruity products.
Xerox invented the GUI, not the mouse. Also, true Xerox did do a lot, their idea was incomplete. Apple fixed so many holes in it and made the GUI actually usable.
It's not stealing if they let you have it. Besides it was useless if Xerox couldn't no anything with it. But look what apple did with, they revolutionized computing to a GUI standard and allowed for a home computer that anyone can use.
If you remember history outside of Apple you would remember that Xerox did sue Apple over this. Xerox revolutionized GUI, Apple marketed it better. Just like Ipods and Iphones. Nothing revolutionary about them (a simplified interface is NOT revolutionary) except that Jobs makes you think they are the coolestest gadgets evar and you must have them!
What I think is funny is how all Mac users believe they're "thinking different" with their Apple decals on their cars and their smug feelings of superiority...but they're all the same. It's group-think. I find Apple fanboys to be incredibly annoying because they all believe that they are unique and special and changing the world...because the Apple marketing team convinced them - en masse - that they were.
Note: This can go for anything and not just Macs; nice thought-provoking comment. It sounds like you took Nader's Controlling Processes course at Cal. Go bears.
I'd have a good article for you, but I went back to Windows, after trying to see what the big deal about Mac was (and not finding it), the other day and don't have it bookmarked anymore.
@bandergrove way to generalize and assume things about millions of people you don't know.
If I were like you I could talk about how PC users, that every PC user hates Mac users and think they're superior to Mac users. And all PC users think they're so fucking smart talking about how smug they think Macheads are. I find them incredibly annoying because they all believe they're smart and ballsy and right, even if they clearly don't have any evidence of a god damn thing.
@OGDaniel1 Jeez dude, he talks about mac users thinking their superior than everyone else, and then you go and prove it by replying with that! This really proves that people are idiots.
@OGDaniel1 Well I'm a PC user, but only because I can do whatever a Mac can do with a low-end machine that costs less than a Mac. I don't like the policy Mac has on software development in some aspects. I think one of the greatest things Microsoft has done is to give more value to the developer than the end user.
@aiklarung huh? Macs have this great developer community full of talented people making awesome apps, PCs have some good apps but lots of crappy ones. Apple doesn't restrict apps at all on the mac, only iOS. Microsoft and Apple both make tools for developers (Apple lets anyone who claims they're a developer and has a iTunes ID have the xcode software free, Microsoft has a limited version of visual studio free.) I prefer osx, its better in many ways but if you want to game pcs are better.
@thatapplegeek XCode has a much worse developer experience than Visual Studio, and besides, free versions of Visual Studio are already quite powerful (most of the features of pro versions are for teams). Also, what's best, Objective C or C#? (I know C# can run on mono but that's not thanks to apple). Even more: if Apple really cared they could port Wine to their OS and call it something posh like "Champagne". It's not like they wouldn't fork open source and call it theirs (BSD, KHTML...).
I don't mind the comparison to Woz. Even thought he is no were near Stephen Hawking. But Jobs is just an sad he is nothing more them someone with good business sense who can brain wash people into becoming fan boys.
Leo Laporte! I'm a big fan of his but I think he shouldn't be included as the "crazy one" or in Apple ad for that matter. He's a consumer just the rest of us. I like how Hawkins was added in. It would've been funny if Al Gore was portrayed the crazy one. Overall nice video!
Xerox was the first private company to make use of a GUI. Although it was Doug Englebart -- at the time an employee of Stanford Research Institute who developed the first GUI. But nice try
Good quality video. Well done. I dunno how many of those people are mac users, but well done nonetheless.
Constructive criticism: To improve the persuasive nature of the video, you might want to try using only famous people who have declared how much they like/use apple (I don't think Stephen Hawking is solving the mysteries of the universe on a Macbook Pro...). If all these celebrities do, then never mind, but if they don't, you might want to think about that.
Personally I liked the inclusion of people like Hawking, it fits well with the dialogue of pushing the human race forward. You do bring up some valid criticism though, since it seems less like an apple advert than social commentary, which makes the end jar a little.
Still, very nice video, and personally I like the choices of people you've included in it, most of them do carry the message across well
I think Apple is trying to show that people who think differently, are the people who change the world. The people who don't follow the social norms, will always be the ones who are making the world a better place.
Just like, little old you. You use a mac, you think differently. You are on the same level as everyone else in the video.
I doubt they were concentrating on who uses a mac.
I guess that makes sense. Still, I suppose it all depends on what they were going for. A more general thing, or on how REAL innovators use apple. I don't know.
you think the SDK will allow root access do you? You think they will allow a voip client to be developed through the SDK? Get a grip. Woz's background was in computer hacking clubs which is where he got alot of his computing experience. Opened up a closed system and made it better. So yes, here is to the crazy ones that are not told what to do. Just like iphone developers that didnt wait for apples permission...
This video is about people that think outside the box, then implies its apple that does this. Maybe apple was created from the seed of this mentality, but now they are against certain types of development on their phone. They are defiantly inside the box on that issue
You shouldn't have ended it with the Apple logo, heh -- it kind of took away all the emotion that you had spent that whole time building up beforehand. Good message, nonetheless.
Bell Labs around the 1960's was working on fiber cable as a means to transmit information over the lines as a means of faster phones, while they did not know at the time that would sent pace the World Wide Web. Hp was also doing similar research, the United States
You don't get it, I'm not talking about Apple Inc. I like them. I'm talking about dub as the people in it. I'm well aware of what Apple has done to computers. Also apple did not make the world Wide Web, that was done by Hp, IBM, Bell Labs, US Military.
Well, I'm glad Leo is in there... I see your point though, Leo has hardly revelutionized anything by himself - but he's clearly a great influence in the online media world...
And if you see how the media landscape has changed over the last couple of years, with podcasting and so on, THAT is a revolution. And what better representation of that revolution than Leo Laporte?
I also didn't identify w/all of the people you chose but I applaud you for doing it. Very well executed. The end was the exact same end I literally just wrote in a comment I posted on the original 1997 clip. They should re-air the original but close it exactly the way you closed YOUR version. Only the modern logo treatment w/no slogans or any other distractions. Any slogan old or new is contrived compared to the power and meaning imbued in the Apple logo.
Again, like above I don't agree with all of the choices. But some of them are lovely. Particularly, that panning around Hawking looked like a real advertising campaign. Nice one.
Pretty good. I dunno that I agree with all your choices of people...but maybe that's the point? Man, I really would love them to revive that marketing campaign though.
Yeah, I thought it was a great campaign too. I wanted to make a version that had a bit of a lighter side to it that included various pop icons. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks

Mac and Windows are both really expensive
I think that the combination Linux (ubuntu 8.04 (or any distro you want)) and a PC is the best combination.. and no restrictions at all..
Price with software for Mac: 1300 $
Price with software for PC (windows): 600 - 1800 $(1000 PC with vista, many people ant photoshop etc but some ppl don't want all that extra)
Price with software for PC (linux): 500$
And I'm talking about all just as fast

But yes, I made up my mind, it's like this:
Price for a Mac: 1300 euros
Price for PC (windows): 800 euros
Price for PC (Linux): 350 euros
(The 450 euro extra for the PC is for example:
150 euros for windows vista.
55 euros for Nero burning
200 euros for Photoshop
130 euros for MS Office.... etc..

I guess that makes sense. Still, I suppose it all depends on what they were going for. A more general thing, or on how REAL innovators use apple. I don't know.
eringobragh16 4 years ago
it was awesome till Wozniack and Jobs showed up.

People who think differently, (e.g. iPhone unlockers) get shutdown.

you're a douchebag. apple is releasing an SDK in february. not only that, but it was people UNLOCKING their phones that breached a contract.
FeeNominal 4 years ago
you think the SDK will allow root access do you? You think they will allow a voip client to be developed through the SDK? Get a grip. Woz's background was in computer hacking clubs which is where he got alot of his computing experience. Opened up a closed system and made it better. So yes, here is to the crazy ones that are not told what to do. Just like iphone developers that didnt wait for apples permission...
psptutorial 4 years ago
i agree with you, dude. but, do any other cell phone companies' sdks allow root access or a voip clients? if so, i'd love to hear about it.
FeeNominal 4 years ago
This video is about people that think outside the box, then implies its apple that does this. Maybe apple was created from the seed of this mentality, but now they are against certain types of development on their phone. They are defiantly inside the box on that issue

Microsoft changed the world a lot more than Apple.
Supahflyfly 4 years ago
You shouldn't have ended it with the Apple logo, heh -- it kind of took away all the emotion that you had spent that whole time building up beforehand. Good message, nonetheless.
HailToTheThief9 4 years ago
And end up as a brand label...
Apple may have changed the world, but the world hasn't rewarded them. Kinda makes you think, eh?

Think 'different'? More like locking oneself into a one way track.

think different.. buy from our company.
Invoking our heroes to sell a product isn't cool.

yeah, that's right.
All these people use Apple?
NetoSilveira 4 years ago
It's more of an ad for steve jobs then one for apple itself... (hence the ending with an old photo of Jobs before the logo)...
Basically, it's trying to remind people that the dude started basically from nothing in creating Apple.

this isn't an apple commercial. have you seen the original?

If apple didn't do it, some one else would have.
Rozenrot 4 years ago
Yeah but they wouldn't have done it anywhere near as well!

Bell Labs around the 1960's was working on fiber cable as a means to transmit information over the lines as a means of faster phones, while they did not know at the time that would sent pace the World Wide Web. Hp was also doing similar research, the United States
Ricky156 4 years ago 2
You don't get it, I'm not talking about Apple Inc. I like them. I'm talking about dub as the people in it. I'm well aware of what Apple has done to computers. Also apple did not make the world Wide Web, that was done by Hp, IBM, Bell Labs, US Military.

Leo Laporte? Why?
geeklovenetwork 4 years ago
Well, I'm glad Leo is in there... I see your point though, Leo has hardly revelutionized anything by himself - but he's clearly a great influence in the online media world...
And if you see how the media landscape has changed over the last couple of years, with podcasting and so on, THAT is a revolution. And what better representation of that revolution than Leo Laporte?
arnor 4 years ago 2
Nice idea, and nice ending, but Michael Moore and Arianna Huffington?
chris00nj 4 years ago
I also didn't identify w/all of the people you chose but I applaud you for doing it. Very well executed. The end was the exact same end I literally just wrote in a comment I posted on the original 1997 clip. They should re-air the original but close it exactly the way you closed YOUR version. Only the modern logo treatment w/no slogans or any other distractions. Any slogan old or new is contrived compared to the power and meaning imbued in the Apple logo.

I loved!
fmgoss 4 years ago
Again, like above I don't agree with all of the choices. But some of them are lovely. Particularly, that panning around Hawking looked like a real advertising campaign. Nice one.
thequicksilver 4 years ago
Michael Moore tainted that. I get it though.
thinkpinkwink 5 years ago
Pretty good. I dunno that I agree with all your choices of people...but maybe that's the point? Man, I really would love them to revive that marketing campaign though.
8daze 5 years ago
Yeah, I thought it was a great campaign too. I wanted to make a version that had a bit of a lighter side to it that included various pop icons. Thanks for the feedback.
