  • io...c'ero....che emozione....!!!

  • Tony Bin is italian horse i remeber this day ...i want cry ...

  • I never get tired out watching Mtoto with his turbo chargers kick in

He should have won the Arc by a canter but unfortunately the Jockey left his charge two some 500 yards to late & he got pipped at the post. I remember the trainer being highly critical of his jockey afterwards. Complete amateur was Mr Bean was riding him that day?

  • Diminuendo a FANTASTIC filly whom I thought they ran into the ground.Too many races in to short a time. She was out on her feet in the Leger so why come here?Shame

  • I know MTOTO won 2 eclipse's and a King George but what else did he win?? Anyone help??

  • Isn't that rather like suggesting that Daley Thompson wasn't a truly great athlete because he only won two Olympic golds, or criticising Alain Prost becasue he only won the F1 World Championship four times or arguing that Lammtarra was average becuase he only won the Derby, the King George and the Arc?

I know I'm guilty of wearing Mtoto-coloured spectacles, but I think your implicit disparagement of Mtoto's achievements and ability for the reason you give is unfounded.

  • Mtoto won all his Group 1 races on courses with an uphill finish,Ascot+Sandown, perhaps this is why he doesnt get there quick enough? They werent stopping at the front? I still love his win over Shady Heights in the Eclipse.Shady Heights looked to have repelled him until the last 50yds when Mtoto came again.

  • Could be, frank; but I think it was simply the size of the field that beat him on Arc day.

  • I thought MTOTO was a great horse but his form with UNFUWAIN!??! Do you think the Hern camp would rate UNFUWAIN on a par with NASHWAN?? I dont think so some how.Plus UNFUWAIN was a soft/heavy going horse and this was the only time outwith the Derby(where he flopped because of the ground) and he wasnt Willie Carsons first choice either he chose MINSTER SON.Whats your opinion mate?

  • Mtoto also won back to back Prince of Wales' Stakes Royal Ascot in 1987 and 1988.

  • THANKYOU MEECHIO

  • Just viewed it again and Mtoto still didn't make it.

  • Darn it! Mtoto lost again when I watched this clip. I keep hoping that one day he'll get up on the line.

  • Tony Bin comes from well off the pace the same as Mtoto.

As i recall he had been running in Gr.1´s all season.

Without taking anything away from his Italian trainer, if this horse would have been trained in Newmarket or Ireland he would probably have been a champion with many big race victories.

  • Tony Bin did, indeed, run in Group 1s in 1988. Just see him being soundly beaten by Mtoto in the King George - a smaller field produced a truer result.

  • The best horse in the race was definitely Tony Mtoto Bin. He was a great racehorse. Tony Mtoto Bin.

  • I chortle every time I read your comment F1.

  • ムトトはこれで最強馬の1頭になり損ねたような・・・

    残念。

  • ああっ、ムトト~;;

  • This Horse "TonyBin" it was buy from Luciano Gaucci(former A.C.Perugia chairman) for 5 thousand euros and re-selling for 4 millions of euros!!!

  • Emmson ran an absolute cracker here justifying the promise he showed as 2yo.

  • As in Dancing Brave's Derby, the best horse didn't quite get there. Mtoto was brilliant. His turn of foot challenged that of the great DB. Over 10 he was the best ever.

  • But then again wasnt MASHKOUR the unluckiest horse in that Derby??

  • What a heartbreak.....Mtoto was robbed of an unbeaten 5YO campaign by his own brilliance. I feel Roberts thought with Mtoto's blistering turn of foot, it didn't matter where he had him turning into the straight....reminiscent of Mr Piggott and Nijinsky (except Nijinsky was given a bit more of a chance of winning by his jock!)

  • I can't bear to watch a race where the best horse doesn't win. I am gutted every time I watch this Arc.

  • Excellent stuff, reminds me of my lost youth ... I don't think Graham Goode even *mentions* the winner until the final furlong.

  • That's quite good for him though as he normally only mentions the winner near the line!!

  • This was an arc field with terrific strength in depth; there are really good horses from first to last. The best horse (Mtoto)finished second, from an impossible position, but credit to Tony Bin who was a very tough and consistent performer.

  • Mtoto was the business. In 1987 he was the best, as he proved by beating Reference Point in the Eclipse. This was RP's best ever run in a contest that challenges Grundy and Bustino's King George for the title Race of the Century.

  • Agree,what a race.

  • Tony Bin was only a length in front of MTOTO the whole way round

  • Can't agree with you there. Tony Bin had almost 3 lengths on Mtoto at 200m. He got "first run" on him. The race was nicely set up for hold-up horses but Mtoto lost position turning in. Fair play to Tony Bin though.

  • The jockey got it right on Tony Bin!! The jockey got it wrong on Mtoto !! MAC was right to a certain extent but at the crucial stage of the Arc(the false bend) Mtoto lost 2 lengths on Tony Bin.Proved costly
