I met her so many times! It was my birthday on June 18th. Just one day shy of the two months since she died. I keep forgetting she's not with us, anymore!
One of Lis Sladen's first TV appearances. I wonder how she would have felt, all those years ago, knowing that her passing would be mourned by so many with so much respect and affection.
Sad, isn't it? This was a big budget serious drama series for adults, shot on location and on film for maximum quality...and yet the interest in an appearance by Liz Sladen, who appeared in Dr.Who, a show made on video tape on a microscopic budget for a largely child audience. I bet the producers of Special Branch think there's no justice in the world. All that effort and for what? Forgotten in the wake of a kid's show. Ah, well.
Elisabeth Sladen received much critical and popular acclaim for her realistic portrayal of "Sarah Jane Smith" in DrWho, and the show achieved its highest consistent ratings with her in the mid-70's. At that time, DrWho was being critisized for moving away from its younger audience with intense episodes that pulled a large adult audience.
Lis Sladen's "Sarah Jane" remains one of DrWho's best-loved and highest-rated characters, even into the modern era.
I mean it's sad for Special Branch. No one seems to care about all the work and talent which went in to making that show. George Sewell was a great actor. But these days, he's probably only remembered for being in Remembrance of the Daleks. He also starred in UFO, but even that wasn't as much his show as Special Branch.
No offence, but this clip IS better than nothing. Even though it's just a brief clip focussed on what appears to be Elisabeth Sladen in a minor role, well in that scene anyway. Atleast the uploader acknowledged what show it was from and those who may be curious may then check it out.
That can be the thing with actors being in more mainstream things as you've alluded - it can draw more people/interest in their perhaps relatively obscure work too, through people who may follow that actor's work.
Well, yes, I am. I'm not knocking her role on Dr.Who, just making an observation that bigger, more ambitious and expensive shows fell by the wayside while Dr.Who became legendary, despite its comparitive cheapness.
Imagine how the makers of big budget SF shows that lasted only a season or two must feel about Dr.Who! :)
Indeed, there sure are some hypocrite losers around here. I'm tempted to go to some David Tennant videos & tell any stupid teen girl who says how "cute" he is that they are "so wrong!"

Your name suggests that you're into Science Fiction shows as well.

Women in Uniform, sometimes they look so good....
Also, was that Catherine Schell from "Space 1999" and "City of Death" in the scene with her?

That was an episode of the series "Send in the Girls". Not exactly topless, more a "wardrobe mulfunction", in truth.
