  • HOW IS CELL PHONE COVERAGE?

  • @trexl I had my cheap little Wal mart Straight talk phone and I got great coverage. But most everyone else got weak reception in some of the less populated areas or on the more remote rigs.

  • I wish you the best there and you have provided some very helpful videos here at youtube.

  • If you are looking to head up there for work go sos staffings website and register first. Submit your info and then search for jobs on their site and submit your application online. A lot easier to let them call you and let you know when to come up there. Way too busy to get anything accomplished and it was -5 degrees F out there. We are use to the cold but most people were from warmer states and were still walking around.

  • My brother and two friends drove up to Williston from Eagan, MN. Took us 11.5 hours. We drove straight through the night and rolled in about 6:30 in the morning. We went to Wal-Mart and the parking lot was packed with sleeper semis, campers and cars. It was crazy busy everywhere we went. The hotel prices are in the area of 150.00 per night. Needless to say we knapped in the car in the Wal-Mart parking lot.

  • thank you B

  • Am I absolutely crazy for heading out to that area without a car in January? That is my plan, but I'm feeling more and more like it may be a bad idea.

  • @wonatesics186 I have to stay that going up there with no car in January is kinda crazy man. There is no public transportation in the oil fields for one and everything is so spread out. Plus you have to factor in the weather. it is very very cold up there bro

  • @poetskinny even if i can get into a man camp with other cats working on the same rig?

  • @wonatesics186 The problem will be getting to the rig or the man camp in the first place. The company doesn't provide transportation. They just give you an address of a rig and some directions. It could be hours away from where you go to interview. Plus you have to drive from the camp to the rig every day and while you can usually car pool there is no guarantee

  • @wonatesics186 It is pretty crazy, February is the coldest month, with windchill it can get to 70 below zero. There is no public transportation there. Snow won't permanently leave the ground until mid April. The town you are going to is small, there isn't a mall or anything, most people go to Wal Mart, which is a mile outside of town.

  • @poetskinny Thank you SO much for such an informative, articulate video!! My husband was recently discharged from the Army, but he's been unable to find work due to the poor economy. We've decided to uproot our three-year-old and move out there in the hopes of making/saving money. It's a huge decision to move from Orange County, CA and I've honestly been TERRIFIED, especially when I saw the price gouging going on with housing. I've been researching for days and was starting to lose hope that ou

  • @WrightNWright Hope everything works out for you up there. Glad my vids could help a little

  • Good info...Thanks for the video. Better to apply to work during the warmer months and then go home during the winter.

  • this doesn't seem worth it. you are going to pay more for housing, the weather and the manual labor job. I guess if you are desperate but in the end it doesn't seem like a great idea which is why they can't fill jobs because it really isn't worth it.

  • Any information you can give on companies for entry level positions. Email charlottertohomes@gmail.com

  • @cahrlottertohomes

plz if u get some information please send it to me

    ammarhfarhan@yahoo.com

  • Thanks for the info. You're very well spoken and articulate and got the message across clearly and concisely. I really appreciate it.

  • @MikeNeumann2011 Thanks for the compliments. Glad you could get some use out of my video

  • @poetskinny: Heading up in 2 weeks ...what is the boot requirement and are you an employee or 1099'ed? I have the cold gear and know the consequences. Bringing the van to stay in and such....about the housing..I am a framing carpenter what are those guys making???

  • did you look for housing in Sidney, MT or is the oil boom big there too? What about Fairview? Also, how many African Americans did you encounter? I'm black and lived/worked in Sidney for a year and came across four total.

  • @maxrobinns There were a lot of African American folks in Williston during the dummer, but as winter comes around it seems I havent seen as many around here. I'm from NW Montana

  • Thanks for your information it was very helpful. My husband is going to try and get a job up there soon.

  • @kdmzion Glad I could be of some help. Hope everything works out for your husband.

  • do they do background checks? should i look now for a job or go up there?

  • @cthrukira Yes they do criminal background checks. It's up to you man, but I would try to have at least something lined up (interview, offer, etc) before I went up there,

  • @poetskinny Did you have an interview before you went? I know no-one there. My plan was to apply online everywhere I can for next 3 months and then drive out in March and apply in person.

I was curious how long you were there with no job? I'm budgeting and planning 3 months.

  • @dc125 I already had an interview lined up before I went up to North Dakota so I was only up there without a job for about a week and a half. I have heard of others who were up there for a month or more before they got hired on. I think having enough money to last 3 months is a great idea. A lot of people get into trouble because they go up there without enough savings.

  • @poetskinny Sorry to be a pest... did you get your interview from online applications or through contacts?

  • @dc125 I actually had a friend who gave me a reference. So I filled out the online application and then repeatedly called and finally got through to an HR person who scheduled me for an interview.

  • My hubby and our newphew want to head up there. There is just nothing here in Mass. and unemployment is running out soon. Thanks for the info this will help as we plan what we are going to do. He and his newphew will go out there before the rest of us go.

  • @clipmom Hope everything works out for them up there. Glad my videos could be of some help.

  • Hi, realistically...how much can you earn?? Ive been a Chemical Operator for a little over 10 years now in Chicago. Obviously working with hazardous chemical in a manufacturing environment. I had an interview with Connoco Phillips last year for Montana but never heard back from them. I am def willing to go there and live in a Man Camp but would like to have an idea of what kind of money to expect. I don't mind working everyday - all day.

  • @MrAdaj76 I was making around $2400 a week after taxes. That was $24/hr + per diem + mud pay. And that was entry level.

  • I got a job Hauling Gravel and the truck has a double sleeper with refrigerator and microwave and bunk beds. I am the only driver for this truck so if we are down I have a room. There are lots of drivers doing this.

  • Were you driving from the homeless shelter in Bismarck to Stanley everyday? Thats a long drive! How long did it take you to find a six figure job? Did you apply online before going up to ND? Is there any boom going on over on the Montana side of the border? Do you have a list of towns that the boom and jobs are going on in or around other than Williston?

  • @OnTheBackroads No. Once I got the job and had to be on the rig in Stanley I lived in the company man camp which was about 20 mins from the rig. Yes, I did apply for jobs before I got to ND. I did a few Google searches and found some oil/drilling companies and applied online. I also followed up the online applications with numerous phone calls.

  • @OnTheBackroads Id like to know about other towns also. I know Minot is going ape shit also.

  • You talk as if your not there anymore? Did you leave and if so why?

  • @mikehh9 He said in the first video its because its to damn cold.

  • @poetskinny what basic skill set did you have with no experience in the oil industry. I'm preparing to make that trek up there in a few weeks. I'm coming from a background in the cell tower industry and curious to know if having rigging and cell tower construction experience would be an asset. Thanks for posting your frank and informative videos.

  • @Luccullus I came from a landscaping background. I had no skills other than being an extremely hard worker that helped in the oil industry. I was fortunate enough to have a great reference from someone who worked in the oil patch who knew how hard a worker I was.

I don't know if having cell tower construction skill will be a major asset but it definitely can't hurt. Make sure you bring it up whenever you apply for a job or talk with any HR representatives.

  • If you look at the want ads in Williston the recent television segments is misleading. Many ads are 12-16 an hour. Who can live like that and endure those conditions for that money. I'd have to make 20 per hour with 40 hours each and every week at a minimum. I have thought about taking my pull camper and trying it but, after some research it appears the jobs really don't pay as much as I was lead to believe and are not as abundant as I once thought..

  • @TheCOMMONSENSEMEDIA They are paying $15 an hour to work at WalMart and $18 an hour to work at McDonalds. Not sure what segments you are referring to, but any service related jobs aren't going to be paying the $20+ an hour that you are assuming. Oil rig jobs are the ones where you can make $2,500 a week or more. I guess it just depends on what you are willing to do for the money.

  • @TheCOMMONSENSEMEDIA I agree with @pwoeckener the oil rigs are where you have to go to make the larger amounts of money. But you have to realize that to the average person $15hr is good money and if you are out of work then pulling down $600/week at Walmart or a fast food place is worth braving the elements.

  • Is it best to go there in the late winter, early spring to find a job?

  • @XtaminaEnergyDrink As far as weather conditions go yes it is better to go in early spring. If the weather doesn't bother you then going during the winter would probably be your best bet because less people are going during that time because of the harsh weather.
