De Pace won an international mandolin contest at the age of 11, and as his grandson Bobby De Pace later put it, "From 11 to 17, he played for kings and queens." [1] For many years, de Pace was mandolin soloist at the Metropolitan Opera in addition to his star turns on the vaudeville stage.
His camp performance style is captured in a Warner Bros. Vitaphone short from 1927 (Bernado [sic] de Pace: The Wizard of the Mandolin) which was released on DVD in 2007 as part of The Jazz Singer deluxe edition, and two MGM shorts from 1929. He also released a series of recordings ranging from light classical pieces to original compositions in traditional Italian style.
As we say in Los Angeles, "I could do that... if I wanted to." As Jethro used to say, "There's no such thing as a bad gig." But, I will not dress like that unless there is serious money offered. Apollon was great too.
this guys incredible..you guys didnt even see he was missing a string near the end and wouldnt even know it...its there hanging on the right off his mandolin.
If only I'd started playing when I was 5...... No, I could have started the day I was born and practised 12 hours every day of my life and I still wouldn't be that good. :-)
BERNARDO DE PACE (1886–1966) was a musician and comedic vaudeville performer of the 1920s, billed as "the Wizard of the Mandolin".

@NickRatnieks Looking at the headstock, my guess is a Lyon and Healy.

Anybody know the type of mandolin? I see it has a flat back- not a bowl.

Beautiful playing - a true virtuoso.
