However it IS laughable that everyone who uses the No Offense argument doesn't understand that when you attempt to deny a legally joined couple hundreds and hundreds of legal protections, it is anything BUT an inoffense to their relationship and to them as people.

Lots of things are "ancient" and "time tested". But as we grow more educated as a society, we learn about new ideas that can be integrated without a negative societal impact.
