You can use Super Sculpey. However I prefer to mix my sculpey. I like a softer consistency then the default Super Sculpey. Do a search on my channel on How to mix your own Sculpey.
so now that your done sculpting do you cut the wire and add clay to the holes and smooth is out? what degree do you put your statue in? whats the best paints to use when painting the statue?
Yes eventually I will cut away the wires and smooth out the holes. I usually boil my figures. This way I wont over bake and burn them. Try boiling for 30 minutes in a pot.
No it won't . It's polymer clay , it will only get hard if you apply high heat on it. Usually I'd either bake it or boil it to get it hardened after the sculpt is completed.
@juliankhor thank you I asked, just because my hobby is to make the costumes figures, but I would like to make extra limbs / accessories such as wings or weapons. but I do not know how they could create so that they would last
Do you have any pictures of the finished piece? and did you completely join the limbs before firing? Apologies for all the questions I ran out of space on my last post. Any tips you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks once again for sharing your work, it was truly inspiring.
I have not finish on this one so can't post any final pics. Eventually I will join all the limbs together. For now I kept them separated so I can access the area that was blocked easier. I hope to make a DVD out of this with proper narration and how to tips.
Julian, that was nothing short of amazing. What was the ratio of the clays to get to your optimum? You have also opened my eyes to the often forgotten art of making the Armature, that in itself was pretty damn good, also how you made the mount, when you started removing the clay I thought WTF, something I do all too often. After seeing your adjustment it was clear. I have Sculpey Firm and agree it's hard work I had thought of mixing it with regular Sculpey but so far haven't tried. Excellent....
I mixed the sculpey mainly for the consistency I was looking for. The firmness that you can't get from sculpey and the softness you can't get from sculpey firm. Sorry if this is confusing. I guess end of the day, it's what level of softness/firmness you are aftering for. So for mine it's a ratio of 1 original Sculpey to 1 box of normal sculpey. And it also depend on the level of freshness you got from the store.
If you mean the yellow stuff?, they are epoxy putty. The one I used in the video gets hard in 30 minutes. If you mean the grey stuff, they are super sculpey. A type of polymer clay that only hardens when you bake it.
It's not done yet. So no have not bake it yet. But soon. Currently busy making an instructional sculpting DVD of a wolverine figure I sculpted some time back. Had a lot of request for this :)
Hey, I understand I might have insulted you on one of the videos, not over the sculpting, I love the sculpting, the music really, I'm not a jazz fan, but can I ask something. Will you sculpt a character, my favorite character, many's favorite character, Master chief from the halo franchise.
Will there be any up coming videos on finishing, removing wire handles and painting, sealing and stuff like that? Your boiling idea i like I have a turkey fryer and that will work fine even for the big sculpts (turkey is better from the oven you know) I can't stop watching.
well these vids have become my new relaxation therapy!...i know its speeded up to buggery but it still looks so cool and chilling out to watch, i look forward to them...cant wait for all you future stuff!...i love the way you define the muscle groups and the attention to detail..even in a hulk of a sculpt like this...bravo!...i love the technique :)
thanks! glad its also therapeutic to u too.. Kinda like a relaxing thing for me after a hard days work from work. I like small intricate details.. kinda like a fetish for me.. :/ .. not sure if that is a good thing heh...
