  • The R129 is a Kick ass car, i personally own a 1998 SL 500, enjoyed it since the day i bought it :)

  • great hookup for a open diff car.

  • where did u get the supercharger from

    i have sl500 94

  • where do u get a supercharger for this SL. i need one for my 96 Sl500. I think i will keep the car and won't sell it if i find a way tune it up with something. Any ideas where should i look up parts for tune up?

  • whats the best year to buy the SL500? I really like the 97' and up ones cause i don't really like the double colors. How much can I find the car in 2-3 years? I'm waiting for a more appropriate age to buy one, lol.

  • The last of the r129's from 99-02 have the SOHC motors which are just as reliable has the DOHC in the 90-98 ones but the SOHC(or m113) is cheaper to work on.

  • really? how much cheaper? like what im worried about is when something needs to be replaced on the car, like something that will cost a ton to replace.

  • Everything is cheaper becuase the motor is modular and used on all the V8 mercedes of its time until it was recently replaced with the M273 V8 in 2006. The fact that it is newer makes new parts easier to aquire without paying insane dealer MSRP prices. The old M119 was used even before mercedes used a fuel injector type EFI system, all the ones before 93-94 came with CIS Jetronic fuel injection. A new fuel distributor for one of those is over $1000 versus a pack of stock oem injectors for $250.

  • wow, that is so much better, lol. thats some huge savings. So what year do you recommend? Also, is it easy to do oil changes, you knw routine maintenance? sry bout all these questions, not many people are as knowledgeable as you are. lol

  • @Pro60modman the m113 is a pale imitation of an engine...it is mass-produced, artless garbage. Where the m119 used drilled and threaded holes, m113's got by with gobs of sealant.

  • @25tab Well that pale imitation of an engine is present in the SLR McLaren in all it's mass produced cast and open deck blocked cheapness :D. They are both great engines, just radical opposites in design. You don't see to many blown up Kompressor m112 and m113 cars but a lot of Porsche 911 996's which have similar cylinder materials and combination of the material. I believe Mercedes did their homework on the 3v motors.

  • i have a 96 sl500 and is all black original. not a two tone. the best year considered by most is 96

  • that seems helpful, are the seats harder? cause I remember seeing the older models having different seats then the newer R129's.

  • what kind of exhaust do you think is good for a 97 sl600??i have been looking all around for one..

  • MB rocks

  • did that have amg/brembo 8 piston brakes?

  • It has the AMG/Brembo 6 piston up front and AMG/Brembo 4 piston on the rear.

  • I recommend him to buy a 1999-2002 SL500 and then supercharge it like I have it.

  • well he just bought a european 1994 sl500! a european one it's black with black leather! and it's equiped with a bose sound system !!!!

btw the engine liiks scary! man it's huge! it's an oversized v8

  • @alirteil i can't think of a corny mercedes. Mercedes isn't Ford. Then again, Ive never tried their SUVs.

    I own a '93 500SL, a '89 560 sel, and a '81 380 slc. I don't regret buying any of them. Get a large garage and collect them all. =P its my opinion
