  • Is it free?

  • @RAZRStudios: If it's on my channel it's free. I don't use none free software.

  • 2:30 There is no need for this program to have a Midi keyboard. Remember the Unix philosophy? One tool for each task. There are plenty of virtual keyboard programs, for example VMPK (Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard).

  • @SeltsamerAttraktor: Thank. Yes, you are right. I use Virtual Keyboards all the time now. I was unaware at the time of making this video, Which was 2 years ago. Man time flies!

  • I guess your response may be indicitive of the Linux [programing] community. Respectfully, you are [obviously] a VERY intelligent person but average users within Linux are still lost. I would classify myself within a top 90% of Windows "users" (definitely NOT anywher near an IT guy or programer ) and am often left totally lost in many basic/fundametal operations. Don't take this as a critisism.. I WANT to be a Linux guy...thanks for your hard work and contribution!

  • Got it after hours of problem solving. I'm a newbie to Linux and finally figured out that I could not run while logged in as root. Love the progress that Linux and programs are making but these are the core issues why its still not ready for an everyday user. Thanks for the reply!

  • @nonymussdrummer: People who say Linux is not for everyday users, haven't spent much time with Linux. Linux is easier to use and is more reliable then OSes like Windows or MacOS. The problem comes from bad habits people picked up from using things like Windows. Why in the world would you be trying to run a program like this as ROOT? Why are you logged in as ROOT? I know in the Windows world it's ok to be doing things like this as ROOT, but it's a very very bad habit.

  • I get the Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libjack0.100.0-0 (>= 0.101.1)

    Not sure what to do about this.

  • @nonymussdrummer: What distro are you running. The AMsynth Package was broken for a while in Ubuntu, but is now fixed. If you are running an older copy of Mint or Ubuntu, you can either upgrade you OS or find a working package. I use to grab the older AMsynth package from the Debian site. But if you do this, be sure to disable updates for AMsynth or your package manager will try and upgrade you to the broken package again.

  • nice that linux is like the "independent party" of computing but who or what is responsible for the near universally ARCANE names and terminology associated with it?? it sounds like you need 18 words in multiple african dialects to describe what the mac calls an OS. plus there is like 657 steps to install a simple app. big freakin headache after viewing this."Debonian Sidunku Jakhonkin Linux System"

  • @TheScooteryt: 657 steps to install a simple app? you've never used Linux before have you. There is one step, you type the name. If it's not installed you click install.

  • yeah mint rocks

  • No virtual Keyboard? If you look closely in your own video, you see the entry "Virtual Keyboard" under "Utils" at 2:27.

    Good video, I am researching the synth possibilities in Linux. This helped me a lot, since I don't want to install dozens of different programs.

  • @JanDeluxe78 The "Virtual Keyboard" menu item only works if you have an external virtual MIDI keyboard installed. It's not actually build into Amsynth..

  • @dtoliaferro

    nope, with the Virtual Keyboard you can "play" with your PC-Keyboard, missing stuff like Velocity etc but for a quick and dirty Testing its good enough.
