I was raised in a rich family that was very socially conscience, and they told me to be myself when I was like everyone else. What I've found from being in numerous social situations is that youth is encompassed with what others think of them; therefore, dating someone with an opinion , even when they personally like you, is risky to his or her objective.
I think women would have it even harder, if that makes any sense, because where I live girls are not expected to be as radical or outspoken as guys. I'm not trying to be sexist, but it seems to be slightly more acceptable for a guy to have atheist views. What’s really hysterical is that I live in America, the land of the oppressed and the vastly ignorant. Of what I've heard Europe, especially the northern countries, are far better towards Atheists in general.
Another way I look at it is like this. If a female can't respect you for your Atheism; then, she doesn't need to be with you anyways. For Atheist it always seems one way because we the ones who have to "hide" in the shadows and "water down" our opinions. I have different experiences by being an Atheist because I tell females upfront who I am, what I do, and what I like. So, they play by my rules. When it comes to females you have to be demanding toward them and make them respect you.

Atheists are less likely to separate from their significant other than religious people are. Which tells me that religion is not a determining factor of whether or not a relationship will work or not.

Good views on it. I agree on the whole passion part especially. When a guy's more passionate about their views on atheism, I find the lot of them are usually single. Maybe its my imagination. I have alot of male atheist friends who aren't verbal about their views and most of them have girlfriends. So I don't believe being atheist is the problem. I'm dating an atheist. No. It's because atheists are more discriminating when it comes to choosing a mate. They rely less on their emotions and more on their judgment. That's an interesting question. I think it can also be true for atheist women, though. I don't bring it up with my friends from high school a lot, but I have let them know that I am atheist.
I don't know if atheism is the sole factor, but I do notice that throughout the past, christians tend to marry christians, jews tend to marry jews, religion to religion. I do agree that atheism doesn't totally define a person. There is so much more to people than just a belief or disbelief in a deity.
Sharing a religious view would help as I suppose many of your beliefs are fixed in place with religion, so it makes the whole relationship flow easier with less conflict.
With atheism, though, that world view is not prescribed, so there is no guarantee that the other person will share your world view. There could be more conflicts because of this.
Really I just want to ask some questions and encourage thought on belief and relationships. So far I am getting lots of interesting thoughts and opinions. I may try to come up with a survey or something like the one websnarf and snowfeet did on these issues.

Good views on it. I agree on the whole passion part especially. When a guy's more passionate about their views on atheism, I find the lot of them are usually single. Maybe its my imagination. I have alot of male atheist friends who aren't verbal about their views and most of them have girlfriends. So I don't believe being atheist is the problem. I'm dating an atheist. He never talks about it. He'll make a point when the subject comes up but there's never really any passion in his points.

That's because until, literally a century ago, women were oppressed (by arrogant men!): they weren't taken seriously and very few had the freedom in order to invent things.
Since women and men have been given equal rights, it's been shown that women work harder in their jobs and in general, get much better results in exams.
Men are not smarter: perhaps you haven't seen very many women in your lifetime.

I am a senior in a public high school, so obviously I've seen enough women to know how smart they are on average. What really pisses me off about women is that they always complain about getting equality, they want equal rights, but not equal responsibilities. They would never agree to have the same chance of being drafted as men, and they get lesser sentences of jailtime on average.

Yes, they want equality, it's a little demeaning to be told you're worth less than someone just because you don't have balls. And women generally commit much less serious crimes than men. Ergo, they get lesser jail time, but that's going off you're point now.

No. It's because atheists are more discriminating when it comes to choosing a mate. They rely less on their emotions and more on their judgment. They analyze and evaluate the compatibility of personalities as opposed to pure infatuations and romantic ideas of love-at-first-sight the way people inclined to romantic ideas tend to do.

That's an interesting question. I think it can also be true for atheist women, though. I don't bring it up with my friends from high school a lot, but I have let them know that I am atheist.
I don't know if atheism is the sole factor, but I do notice that throughout the past, christians tend to marry christians, jews tend to marry jews, religion to religion. I do agree that atheism doesn't totally define a person. There is so much more to people than just a belief or disbelief in a deity.

Sharing a religious view would help as I suppose many of your beliefs are fixed in place with religion, so it makes the whole relationship flow easier with less conflict.
With atheism, though, that world view is not prescribed, so there is no guarantee that the other person will share your world view. There could be more conflicts because of this.

Cool. Thank you. I agree, there are many factors, I certainly hadn't meant to suggest that "atheism" was the sole factor in their being single but that it could play some role whether as you suggest there is a lack of community which adds an additional barrier to all their personal factors.
I am becoming interested now in this issue of women just not needing men as they used to. I wonder if increased secular thought could be part of that.

As far as being a person that is out spoken about your beliefs I can see that. People who believe passionately in anything usually look for people within that category. And theists can be as militant as possible because they have that community that will "provide women". The interesting thing is that all the girls that I've ever liked have been theists, and their belief has never bothered me. I dont think it would bother them either. That was the point I was raising, that it's more to do with the people/personality/qualities rather than the beliefs.
