The story is Crosby fixed up Chris with a girl who was a friend of Crosby girlfriend or something. Chris went out with her and she was very pretty but probably self absorbed. The words in the song tell the story. Great song - I think it may be one of their best.

"run by, don't turn back, can't hide from that look in her eye!" ..... byrds are a hit with me, forever ...... wish they would have stayed as an original group for .... oh ... about 30 years!
High school 1968. amazing.... Christine Gere was so beautiful. and nice to me. never knew why. lol
but she made my year when she went to a new years eve dance with me. such a kindness. (i m not what u would call good looking and she was one of the prettiest girls on the planet.)

They sound like a British Mersey Beat group but in a good way. Too many American bands in the 1960s tried to copy Brit groups and it was a joke. This is very good.
Chris Hillman wrote this , time between,and 2 songs not on the album [I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM ]I put this in a playlist called everly brothers since they both did country rock.
Hugh masekala played trumpet on so you want to be a rock and roll star in the studio and live at monterey [ he went to manahattan school of music with don sebesky and hugo montenegro ] then the move did so you want to be a rock and roll star with a wah wah pedal .
it doesn't matter how many times you listen to this. It's always a true masterpiece from Hillman!!!
