It works just fine on coyote and even large pigs, type in piglet headshot-double kill, before the piglets got it the whole rest of the family got it first, no prob with coyotes.
@mlbdrumsyahoo Amen brother...works great on yotes, just keep your distances within reason. I,ve also taken pdogs, squirrels, crows, pidgeons and hogs. Again, Keep the distance reasonable. The 17hmr is WICKED accurate. I own 3 of em..Lovem : )
I recently picked up my savage .17 after a bit of research. I wanted a rifle I could cost effectively shoot at the range that is capable of 1" 100 yard groups. Other than the cost of ammunition, it beats the snot out of my .22 in every other aspect. Nice video!
bough the savage cause i heard a lot of talk about it beinbg a tack driver. bought laminated stock, heavy barreled varmint model.not real impressed with the accutrigger either
wouldn't give mine one star. tried various loads, and i get better groups at 100 yds with my with my a-boltin .280 rem than this rifle shoots at 50. gonna be sending savage a nasty letter .shoot 140 gr ballistic silvertip handloads out of the abolt. it does have the bass system, which makes a big difference. i have on several occasions shot one-hole, 3 shot groups at 100,with worst groups well under 1 inch with a stndard weight barrel on the abolt, so i know i can shoot a decent group
your everywhere dude! looking to do some squirrel hunting never used a hmr whats your thoughts reckon i could safely fire it up in a tree and not kill someone a mile away with a miss?
@blackriflex39 I used mine mostly for squirrel hunting but I was always careful of the backstop. It doesn't take much to stop one of these little bullets. I think on the off chance that you actually hit something a mile away it would probably just sting a lot. It's probably actually safer than a .22 LR due to the reduced mass of the projectile.
@MrSurgicalPrecision I like how everyone gets on the internet and suddenly they're an experts. Do you even know what force is? Lemme explain it to ya in lamens. Velocity X Mass = Force/Stopping power. .22 LR = 1100 fps. .17 HMR = 2400 fps
@MichiganZombieHunter You do realize a .17 bullet isn't going 2400 fps after it's traveled a mile? At a range of 1 mile a .17 will hit at around 370 fps which would give it about 5.2 ft-lbs of energy. That probably wouldn't even be enough to piss a person off.
@MrSurgicalPrecision Sound like the same old argument again. Why don't you back up your big mouth and let someone shoot you from a mile away then. oh and 370 fps = about 252 mph so have a nice short life when they do. JK I'm just say'n most 'shooters' go for velocity over mass unless you're talking handgun rnds. Especially if you've shot squirrels with this rnd. The damage is far beyond what a .22 is capable of.
@MichiganZombieHunter You find someone that can hit me from a mile away with a .17 HMR and I'll stand there. I think the 488 MOA of drop is going to be a little hard to overcome LOL
Nice man! Just got one just like yours for Christmas freakin awesome! I was wondering is the action a little rougher while loading the first round than the rest?
@MrSurgicalPrecision gotcha.. have you ever had any misfires or had any rounds or casings stuck in the breech that wouldnt eject? cause I had a round stuck in the breech and 1 misfire out of 100 rounds today just wondering how common it was
Great Video, I have the Classic model Walnut stock, Harris By-Pod with a Muller Scope 4-16x50 its a true tack driver, mine seams to like the Hornady 17 gr.V-MAX the best so I'm staying with that, again great video ill be watching for more
Hows the stock. I have the one with a synthetic and im thinking of buying a laminate one. The problem i have is that the action torques to the right when ever i tighten the action screws. But ive allso read that thos stocks use soft wood so im just wondering from some one who has experience with it. Thanks
@Jake93r17 The stock seems very well built to me. I haven't noticed any torquing. I've had the barreled action out of the stock many times and the POI hasn't shifted yet. My experience with laminated wood is that it is just as rigid as any synthetic but not quite as good as aluminum bedding blocks or straight up glass bed jobs.
This video was the deciding factor in which 17HMR rifle I would buy, A Savage 93 in 17HMR. With the rifle, scope & rings we have $620 invested. We find the CCI 17gr TNT rd's are most explosive (like a cherry bomb in a soda can) not much left of what it hits. Crows disappear in a ring of feathers. Hit dead center Squirrels are held together by strips of flesh. Shot 8 feral cats @ a junk yard one weighted 12 pounds and all "dropped down stone dead" where shot.
My .17 HMR is no good for squirrels, it does too much damage at any distance closer then 75 feet. I definitely have to get a clean headshot or there isn't enough left to make soup.
I wish Savage made a .22WMR GV (Wood Stock, Bull Barrel) with Iron Sights like the CZ 455 Lux. I guess that's too practical and not 'pretty' enough...I don't see a GV in .22WMR on their website
Ive got a savage synthetic stock SS heavy barrel and I love using mine for popping crows in the corn field after they take the corn off. prone out in the tree line with just a little camo and its great fun.
@TheJaredbridwell I'd say you should use hearing protection with any round, just for the sake of being safe. But I shoot my .17 HMR without ear protection and don't get ringing.
@TheJaredbridwell You can, but it depends on where you are shooting.. I shoot it in the desert so the sound dissipates easily. I would recommend using hearing protection with any gun though.
@jordyboy056 Thanks for the awnser:D i have land and i have good reasons for one, i.e Pest control, a passion for hunting etc, so i recon i could have a FAC in the space of 8-10 weeks:D
@XISNiiPeDIX yes you do, the uk limit 12 foot pound where as some of the .17HMR rounds can reach more than 250+ foot pounds. If you dont want a rifle that requires a FAC, just stick to air rifles mate.
@ThePhan7em nah joining a rifle club is a no no for me, UK rules are if your excuse is in the rifle club region, you are only allowed to use your rifle in their area, that most probably even means leaving the gun there, and i have alot of land and alot of vermin to be shooting so i'd say i have a very good reasonable excuse for a FAC
@XISNiiPeDIX lol, very true. But they could say, just get an air rifle then. Also, your not going to get an FAC without being a member of a club. Trust me, if you didn't need one I wouldn't have joined one at all. Another thing, being a member of a club is a good enough reason to keep your rifles at home, just say you intend on in the future competing in completions and need the rifle at home due to the fact that most completions are help on the weekend and you club isn't always open.
@ThePhan7em & @XISNiiPeDIX I justed wanted to say to both of you after reading your comments here that while I think the UK is great, I'm glad I don't have to go through all that BS to get a rifle. I could get a full auto weapon here without much more trouble than you guys have getting a rimfire rifle. Of course I would have to go through the same BS to get a suppressor and from what I understand that's easy for you. Good on you for supporting the shooting sports!
@MrSurgicalPrecision that's why one day I want to go on holiday in america just to shoot. Iv said it before and ill say it again, you guys are so lucky over there.
@ThePhan7em True, but i heard pest control, and hobby for shooting i.e competitive and other wise is a good reason, there is a gun club only about 10 miles from me however, i might have to take your advice on that one, Thanks
@millerusaf I like it, not a huge fan of wood stocks but on a rimfire I tend to let them slide. She's accurate as hell, gets better when the barrel is a little dirty.
@MrSurgicalPrecision I normally like wood stocks on older rifles or milsurp rifles, but it really looks good on that rimfire. How is 17hmr versus .22lr? I'm guessing the 17 hmr will fly flatter for farther than the 22, but I don't have too much experience with it (I'm big on just shooting the 22 when it comes to rimfires.
@millerusaf It's a lot flatter shooting, I've shot out to 300 yards so far. Shoots really well out there. I'm not big on rimfires myself. While I really like this rifle I hardly ever shoot it.
@MrSurgicalPrecision Much flatter shooting and more range too :) If I remember right the little .22lr loses stability right at around 200 (ish) yards.
I'm actually debating on getting something like a nice little .223 rifle for a varmint caliber. Would make for a good little rifle to shoot on those days I'm not in the mood to shoot a 30 caliber.
great looking rifle bro, i went for the more tactical style and bought the 93R17 TRR version. Great for shredding rabbits, havnt tried it on anything bigger though like foxes or wild dogs yet.
@MrSurgicalPrecision yeah, looks like a centre fire rifle at a distance with all the cool sniper features ;) Im thinking about sticking a laser or flashlight on the tactical rail.
@thatONEguy512 Yeah the shortest shot I had on a coyote while calling all year was 225 yards so I like a little more gun. They do good if you get them into a good range.
Hi I just bought this rifle and would like to put the same scope pretty much the Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x50mm and need to ask about what rings can i get or should use?
Actually this was my first match and I was one flyer away from a perfect score. I truely belive there isnt an over the counter rimfire rifle out there that can compete with this one at any range. I have a varmint rifle match in may(bushmaster varminter) and a open centerfire match in july (Rem.target/tactical) and a deer rifle match in oct. (Rem 700 project-in progress).
@oneshotonekilled Sweet man. I agree this is one accurate little rifle. I was really impressed when I went to shooting it at 300 yards. Mine shoots better than this video shows. My ADD threw me off this day. I'm working on a Remington 700 .308 I may shoot F/TR with and I may shoot some F/O class with my 6.5-284. Also working on a .338 Lapua built on a Surgeon action.
@TheDailyToker916 I have videos shooting out to 300 yards. Some guys have shot farther. For practical purposes I would say 300 on animals up to the size of maybe a groundhog and as far as you want to try your luck on targets. I plan to try some 400 yard and 500 yard shots later on.
@MrSurgicalPrecision Just picked up my rifle, and man this thing is beautiful. I've been checking out your videos, and I'm inspired. Hoping to get out and get some shooting done once the rain clears up.
Ive shot both a 22. mag and a 17. and i am debating on getting one i know the 17. has amazing accuracy but the 22. mag has good knock down power i want your opion
@Tiller4567 Depends on what you're hunting and how far you'll be shooting. I like the .17 for longer shots on smaller game and target shooting. I prefer the .22 mag for shorter range coyotes and the like. I've yet to try a coyote with my .17. I know it will do the job but I usually take some pretty long shots.
@Tiller4567 .22 Mag, my opinion and bias, alot of guys like the 17 hmr but it is such a small bullet moving at a high speed, it is heavely effected by wind however slight. Ive heard of 17's being effected by the heat coming off the ground on a hot day. I have no proof of that but thats scuttlebut. I am purchasing a savage m93BTVS, same rifle just .22 mag. thats why I'm watching this video, cant find this rifle on youtube in .22 mag. but its ultimatly youre decision.
I purchased this rifle the other day after watching the video.I bought the stainless version, which is gorgeous. I like how you had it set up, so I set mine up the same way. Scope and bi-pod. Really nice looking, and well balanced rifle. Can't wait to shoot it. Thank for the interesting video. Oh by the way, paid $387.00 plus shipping - $404.00 total. Well worth it.
$350?!?!... We get ripped in New Zealand for gun prices it seems. That's a $1,400 rifle over here. My Ruger 10/22 set me back $1,000 by the time I got a suppressor and bipod.
@DarthDaverUber $1400? Ouch! Is that US currency? Of course I don't even want to get into the subject of buying a suppressor here in the US. It's harder than buying a gun in Ireland with all the paperwork and the license fee (tax stamp=$200)
@MrSurgicalPrecision That's $1,400NZD so $1,100-$1,200 USD... still a huge difference. On average, entry model centerfire rifles here seem to be about $1,000 USD with no scope or anything. The cheapest rifle I've ever seen new here is some crappy little Norinco 22 which was $300NZD.
@DarthDaverUber I feel sorry for you, that is frustrating. Well, look at the bright side, at least you can GET a gun! Some areas of the world do not let their people even own a gun :( bummer
hey why is it more accurate when the scope is closer to the rifle? i bought new rings and now my objective lens is about an 1/8 of a inch away from the barrel, and now my lens caps dont fit. should i switch back to the original rings which sits 1 inch off the barrel and gives me plenty of room for my lens caps. but if lower is better then forget the caps right?
@xARMEDCIVILIANx The reason it is more accurate to have the scope as close to the barrel as possible is because most people will cant the rifle very slightly when they aim. Usually to a different degree each time. The closer your line of sight is to your bore, the less the effect on accuracy. Hope that makes sense. If not maybe I can do a video on it sometime. I would use the rings that put your cheek weld in a more comfortable position.
@lexi9gantz I have rarely shot a coyote under 250 yards so I guess I don't trust it for the type of hunting I do. It's fine for coyotes out to 150 yards or so. I just prefer a .223 or even a .308 for coyotes due to the ranges usually involved.
@jitzero I've had several, both rimfire and centerfire. I've only ever had a problem with one and that was due to a poorly inleted stock that cause a pressure point on the barrel.
i have a savage 93r17 that i got way back in 2003 or 2004. killed lots of squirrels, crows, groundhogs, and of course paper and water bottles. it will def kill a deer, but keep it within a reasonable range, ie. within the distance you can throw a brick. also check the legality of it so you don't have to get the rifle confiscated or get a ticket
I have two savage rifles both are bolt action standard type rimfires not the varmint series with just a regular barrel with sights. One is a .22LR and the other is a .22WMR both have accutriggers but the triggers can only be adjusted down two 2 1/2 lbs. That one you gots a dandy i had a ruger level action rifle in 17HMR with open sights on it that thing was super accurate i remember i had a colony of chipmunks living in my backyard i could easily shoot them in the head every time at 30-35 yards.
The ACCU-Trigger on your rifle how low can you set the trigger pull weight on your trigger is it 2 1/2 lb or 1 1/2 lb. And what trigger pull weight is it set at coming from the factory ? Nice video
@Walter5734 Not sure what it was set at from the factory. I turned mine down all the way as soon as I got it. It went down to 1 1/2 pounds but I don't know if all the rimfire Accutriggers go that low or not.
I have this rifle also, I really like it. I actually use it riding around the ranch for anything from snakes to shooting hogs behind the ear it works pretty good, its all in shot placement. I do like this little rifle though.
Nice review and I was just looking at that exact rifle. It's so nice to see a video of some one who knows what they are doing and what they are talking about. I know the .17 HMR shoots allot flatter than the 22 LR but your target hits were excellent, however you did slap the trigger on the 4rth round of the second volley. I'll bet it's the one that pulled the furthest to the left? You should talk to Savage cause you just sold me one. Nice work, keep doing reviews, you do them well.
@nucsol Yeah I still get the occasional trigger jerk. Thanks man, but I doubt Savage really needs me selling rifles for them. They're a top notch company in my book.
not starting any drama but i have the exact rifle and ive dropped 3 coyotes 200-250 yards and over 20 100-200 yards. and to many 10-100. great yote rifle for low windy days. i take my 17 and my .223 .223 for windy days love the 17 great gun. i woldnt shoot over 350 maybe. ive shot around 300 just got to aim a lil high i take great care of my gun maybe thats why it holds a pattern... great video.
I have been thinking about getting a rimfire for a while. I just shouldered this exact rifle at a local shop last weekend. It is high on my list, but still worried about the price of ammo compared to the .22
this rifle is beauty

@ThePhan7em & @XISNiiPeDIX I justed wanted to say to both of you after reading your comments here that while I think the UK is great, I'm glad I don't have to go through all that BS to get a rifle. I could get a full auto weapon here without much more trouble than you guys have getting a rimfire rifle. Of course I would have to go through the same BS to get a suppressor and from what I understand that's easy for you. Good on you for supporting the shooting sports!
MrSurgicalPrecision 9 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision that's why one day I want to go on holiday in america just to shoot. Iv said it before and ill say it again, you guys are so lucky over there.
ThePhan7em 9 months ago
@ThePhan7em True, but i heard pest control, and hobby for shooting i.e competitive and other wise is a good reason, there is a gun club only about 10 miles from me however, i might have to take your advice on that one, Thanks
XISNiiPeDIX 8 months ago
@XISNiiPeDIX
Yes you do, and with it being centrefire its more difficult to get than a .22lr.
TheGraniteFlaneur 7 months ago
@TheGraniteFlaneur .17 HMR isn't centerfire. It's a rimfire.
MrSurgicalPrecision 7 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision my bad, so it is!
TheGraniteFlaneur 7 months ago
I just bought this same model and ordered a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 to set on top. CAN'T WAIT to get her set up. What rings would you recommend?
KakilacLip 10 months ago
@KakilacLip I like Warne rings and you'll probably need high ones.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
That's a beautiful 17hmr. I really like the wood on that one.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@millerusaf It's a fun toy and a good squirrel rifle.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
@millerusaf I like it, not a huge fan of wood stocks but on a rimfire I tend to let them slide. She's accurate as hell, gets better when the barrel is a little dirty.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
@millerusaf It's a fun gun, I'm not big on wood stocks but I let 'em slide on rimfires.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision I normally like wood stocks on older rifles or milsurp rifles, but it really looks good on that rimfire. How is 17hmr versus .22lr? I'm guessing the 17 hmr will fly flatter for farther than the 22, but I don't have too much experience with it (I'm big on just shooting the 22 when it comes to rimfires.
millerusaf 10 months ago
@millerusaf It's a lot flatter shooting, I've shot out to 300 yards so far. Shoots really well out there. I'm not big on rimfires myself. While I really like this rifle I hardly ever shoot it.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision Much flatter shooting and more range too :) If I remember right the little .22lr loses stability right at around 200 (ish) yards.
I'm actually debating on getting something like a nice little .223 rifle for a varmint caliber. Would make for a good little rifle to shoot on those days I'm not in the mood to shoot a 30 caliber.
millerusaf 10 months ago
great looking rifle bro, i went for the more tactical style and bought the 93R17 TRR version. Great for shredding rabbits, havnt tried it on anything bigger though like foxes or wild dogs yet.
StunnedMutha 10 months ago
@StunnedMutha Yeah I've been thinking of trading up to that model. Looked at one at Cabel's a couple months ago and it was SWEET!
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision yeah, looks like a centre fire rifle at a distance with all the cool sniper features ;) Im thinking about sticking a laser or flashlight on the tactical rail.

Great for coyotes jus sayin
thatONEguy512 10 months ago
@thatONEguy512 Yeah the shortest shot I had on a coyote while calling all year was 225 yards so I like a little more gun. They do good if you get them into a good range.

@MrSurgicalPrecision i just noticed this. why do you put your hand on the bottom of the clip every time you chamber a new round??
Speeddemon5863 10 months ago
@Speeddemon5863 Oh just a habit to keep the rifle from rolling over in the bags. My centerfire rifles open a little harder than this one.

Hi I just bought this rifle and would like to put the same scope pretty much the Nikon Pro Staff 3-9x50mm and need to ask about what rings can i get or should use?
BaoCaRdi151 10 months ago
@BaoCaRdi151 I'm not really sure but I think you could get away with medium rings. I like Warne rings. High would give you more clearance.

@BaoCaRdi151 It's a Nikon Monarch 5.5-16.5X44 UCC. It's about 10 years old, they don't make this exact model anymore.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
Actually this was my first match and I was one flyer away from a perfect score. I truely belive there isnt an over the counter rimfire rifle out there that can compete with this one at any range. I have a varmint rifle match in may(bushmaster varminter) and a open centerfire match in july (Rem.target/tactical) and a deer rifle match in oct. (Rem 700 project-in progress).
oneshotonekilled 10 months ago
@oneshotonekilled Sweet man. I agree this is one accurate little rifle. I was really impressed when I went to shooting it at 300 yards. Mine shoots better than this video shows. My ADD threw me off this day. I'm working on a Remington 700 .308 I may shoot F/TR with and I may shoot some F/O class with my 6.5-284. Also working on a .338 Lapua built on a Surgeon action.
MrSurgicalPrecision 10 months ago
Just won my clubs rimfire championship with mine, shot on top of shot at 50yrds. Out- shot many custom 1022s and other assorted target rifles.

TheDailyToker916 11 months ago
@TheDailyToker916 I have videos shooting out to 300 yards. Some guys have shot farther. For practical purposes I would say 300 on animals up to the size of maybe a groundhog and as far as you want to try your luck on targets. I plan to try some 400 yard and 500 yard shots later on.
MrSurgicalPrecision 11 months ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision Just picked up my rifle, and man this thing is beautiful. I've been checking out your videos, and I'm inspired. Hoping to get out and get some shooting done once the rain clears up.

whats the range of the .17 hmr?????
xXspectre170Xx 1 year ago
@xXspectre170Xx I've shot it to 300 yards on targets, it would do a little more I think.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
@xXspectre170Xx very accurate up to 200yrds, after that is kinda pushing it. by that point its lost most of its energy.

Ive shot both a 22. mag and a 17. and i am debating on getting one i know the 17. has amazing accuracy but the 22. mag has good knock down power i want your opion
Tiller4567 1 year ago
@Tiller4567 Depends on what you're hunting and how far you'll be shooting. I like the .17 for longer shots on smaller game and target shooting. I prefer the .22 mag for shorter range coyotes and the like. I've yet to try a coyote with my .17. I know it will do the job but I usually take some pretty long shots.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
@Tiller4567 .22 Mag, my opinion and bias, alot of guys like the 17 hmr but it is such a small bullet moving at a high speed, it is heavely effected by wind however slight. Ive heard of 17's being effected by the heat coming off the ground on a hot day. I have no proof of that but thats scuttlebut. I am purchasing a savage m93BTVS, same rifle just .22 mag. thats why I'm watching this video, cant find this rifle on youtube in .22 mag. but its ultimatly youre decision.
mskiUSMC 1 year ago
@mskiUSMC 22 mag is a good round. I use my .17 mainly for squirrels and vermin so it's perfect for me. It don't like the wind for sure.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
I've shot many Coyotes with my .17 HMR Savage. And it does a good job!!

WCSessa 1 year ago
$350?!?!... We get ripped in New Zealand for gun prices it seems. That's a $1,400 rifle over here. My Ruger 10/22 set me back $1,000 by the time I got a suppressor and bipod.
DarthDaverUber 1 year ago
@DarthDaverUber $1400? Ouch! Is that US currency? Of course I don't even want to get into the subject of buying a suppressor here in the US. It's harder than buying a gun in Ireland with all the paperwork and the license fee (tax stamp=$200)
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
@MrSurgicalPrecision That's $1,400NZD so $1,100-$1,200 USD... still a huge difference. On average, entry model centerfire rifles here seem to be about $1,000 USD with no scope or anything. The cheapest rifle I've ever seen new here is some crappy little Norinco 22 which was $300NZD.
DarthDaverUber 1 year ago
@DarthDaverUber 1,400?!?! HOLY SHIT!! well u guys are lucky that you get to own surpressors. Here in California you cant own one.

MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
hey why is it more accurate when the scope is closer to the rifle? i bought new rings and now my objective lens is about an 1/8 of a inch away from the barrel, and now my lens caps dont fit. should i switch back to the original rings which sits 1 inch off the barrel and gives me plenty of room for my lens caps. but if lower is better then forget the caps right?
xARMEDCIVILIANx 1 year ago
@xARMEDCIVILIANx The reason it is more accurate to have the scope as close to the barrel as possible is because most people will cant the rifle very slightly when they aim. Usually to a different degree each time. The closer your line of sight is to your bore, the less the effect on accuracy. Hope that makes sense. If not maybe I can do a video on it sometime. I would use the rings that put your cheek weld in a more comfortable position.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
would the 17hmr rune raccon pelts?
crazed20000 1 year ago
@crazed20000 They make FMJs for it that would probably be better than anything for pelt hunting.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
wow you wouldnt trust it to bring down a coyote...........dude i shot a deer one time in the neck with a 22 and dropped it........
lexi9gantz 1 year ago
@lexi9gantz I have rarely shot a coyote under 250 yards so I guess I don't trust it for the type of hunting I do. It's fine for coyotes out to 150 yards or so. I just prefer a .223 or even a .308 for coyotes due to the ranges usually involved.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
whats the reliability like on savage rifles?
jitzero 1 year ago
@jitzero I've had several, both rimfire and centerfire. I've only ever had a problem with one and that was due to a poorly inleted stock that cause a pressure point on the barrel.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
@jitzero good. i just bought a Savage Edge (Axis) today in .223. message me some time and i'll let you kno. i only gave $345 for it.
glockamasta 1 year ago
i have a savage 93r17 that i got way back in 2003 or 2004. killed lots of squirrels, crows, groundhogs, and of course paper and water bottles. it will def kill a deer, but keep it within a reasonable range, ie. within the distance you can throw a brick. also check the legality of it so you don't have to get the rifle confiscated or get a ticket
vawook87 1 year ago
I have two savage rifles both are bolt action standard type rimfires not the varmint series with just a regular barrel with sights. One is a .22LR and the other is a .22WMR both have accutriggers but the triggers can only be adjusted down two 2 1/2 lbs. That one you gots a dandy i had a ruger level action rifle in 17HMR with open sights on it that thing was super accurate i remember i had a colony of chipmunks living in my backyard i could easily shoot them in the head every time at 30-35 yards.
Walter5734 1 year ago
The ACCU-Trigger on your rifle how low can you set the trigger pull weight on your trigger is it 2 1/2 lb or 1 1/2 lb. And what trigger pull weight is it set at coming from the factory ? Nice video
Walter5734 1 year ago
@Walter5734 Not sure what it was set at from the factory. I turned mine down all the way as soon as I got it. It went down to 1 1/2 pounds but I don't know if all the rimfire Accutriggers go that low or not.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
How far were you shooting? I listened to the audio a couple times, but my dogs were excited by the delivery guy across the street!!! :)

@psychodad13 Just 100 yards. I have a couple other videos shooting it a little farther.
MrSurgicalPrecision 1 year ago
I have this rifle also, I really like it. I actually use it riding around the ranch for anything from snakes to shooting hogs behind the ear it works pretty good, its all in shot placement. I do like this little rifle though.
alan78840 1 year ago
Nice review and I was just looking at that exact rifle. It's so nice to see a video of some one who knows what they are doing and what they are talking about. I know the .17 HMR shoots allot flatter than the 22 LR but your target hits were excellent, however you did slap the trigger on the 4rth round of the second volley. I'll bet it's the one that pulled the furthest to the left? You should talk to Savage cause you just sold me one. Nice work, keep doing reviews, you do them well.
