Ask anyone outside india, they would tell you. The appreciation might be the result of the fact that these folks are getting to listen only now or that it was new in india at that time. Neverthless the composer of the song should be appreciated for his efforts.
This movie was sooo ahead of its time and in a way i still feel is, coz unfortunately i think the majority of indian audience are still incapable of appreciating a simple films (in this case a simple action flick) where romance and heroism take the back seat… for everything to be proud of there is always something to be ashamed of… c'est la vie. Apart from melody and harmony.. synth work with a great arrpegio's which you can hear all thro the song which is just mind boggling . Rahman's fame for Jai Ho which is what most people know in the west does not do justice to the body of work by this powerhouse of a man ! IMHO thiruda thiruda was a killer of an album! KannumKannum ->Amazing BASSLINES ! Veerapandi Kottaiyile ->Amazing Orchestration, TheeThee - slap(keith peters) flute (navin) , and this album was the start of electro and sampling.

In North Tamil Naad there is a fortress of Rajus called Rajapalayam. Its one the most prosperous towns that was built up by the Rajus.
In Koombakonnam there are many Naidu families that are believed to be descendants of Nayaks.
The Nairs of Kerala are also said to be descendants of Nayaks.
All these groups Nairs, Naidus and Rajus have a difference in physical features. They look obviously North Indian mixed.
