I LOVED this game. The in-flight refuelling was the hardest. "Up. Looking good"! One time I couldn't do it after trying for 30 minutes, I just shot the the tanker. The pilot goes "What the hell is wrong with you"? And then immediately afterwards "Up!" I was lolling!

this game brings back memories.. but coudn't agree with some of the comments from the guys here, .. it wasn't a great simulation, the plane coudn't accelerate to 1.6 machs even without weapons and fuel tanks, it was slow dragging, slow responding, the amraam was too good to be true, i mean, to be able to hit a target 30 miles away??? seriously guys that is impossible, nato was firing amraams against serb migs at 12 km-8 miles to make sure it will hit.. BVR is not so BVR as some think..

I accelerated to 1.6 machs without weapons and fuel tanks flawlessly.

The AMRAAM can strike a target that's 30 miles away. And as you observed the preferred tactic to ensure a hit would be to fire at a closer range, like the described 8 miles. BVR is BVR. But getting closer to further guaruntee a strike isn't too bad either.

For some reason, hopping back into the virtual cockpit has never been so satisfying after typing up all that.

There's a common bug to joysticks of that time is that when you calibrated them normally, they would give a 98%-99% thrust, when you pushed the throttle to the end. In case of this game, the afterburner would activate when you would push the thrust to the end. In this case the bug would cause the AB to not fully activate. The trick was to cheat the calibration of the joystick so that when you pushed the throttle 95% forward, it would read it as 100%.

A Very good example of the 3DFX cars. Hell! I still have mine!

I remmber cleaning the Disk then all of a sudden i bumbed into a table where i was cleaning it and it just snapped.

That was a said day. I didnt work really after all the years. But this is a very good game , and very good example of 3DFX Voodoo 2 Cards.

I wish they could make modern updated versions of Janes F-15 and F-18... would be absolute class with updated avionics and graphics. Nice to see that video its been a long time since I flew Janes F-15

I totally agree with you! Sad but true, combat aircraft simulators are commercial fails today. Only a few people would buy them, so no one builts them anymore. As long as there won´t be a good realistic new one, i keep on playing the remake of Falcon 4.0...

Best Fighter plane ever. Never been shot down as far as I know. Hell, It was even able to land after a mid-air collision with an A-4 that ripped its right wing off.

Much appriciated! My first combat flight simulator. Never played anything but the expert settings and it was worth it! One of the most challenging sim campaigns ever. And some very sweet memories of the online community until EA closed Combat dotNet... fortunately then came the Hyperlobby :)
