  • Happy Birthday Foster Sylvers !!!!!!! Pisces RULE!!!!

  • Those fros were f#%n FIERCE!!

  • Back in the days of the natural fro

  • I MISS THE 70'S!

  • That is one gorgeous family!

  • Absolutely loved this song back in '76 - The Sylvers were legends of dance moves way before the Jacksons...they owned this song and the moves that we all tried to copy at the time! Very cool!

  • One of favorite groups of the 70s They all had talent !

  • Thumbs up if you've ever heard the Happy Kine's version of "Boogie Fever"!

  • LIVE! 1970's technology and all! a bunch of teenagers totally kicking ass here folks a lost art these days!

  • oh these mutha effas straight KILLED this performance!!! and the singing was so clear and on point.

  • That drummer is thinking, "Dang, I wish my afro was that nice...."

  • Dang that coochie must be wore out poppin' out all of them babies.

  • I just love disco music, sometimes I think that I was born in the wrong generation... then I remember of internet...

  • Boogies Robots were the most awesome thing in this movie, seriouly...

  • The sylvers sisters are so damn sexy and beautiful.they where what u call ladys.they had class,Stlye,Lovelyness,Beauty, sex appeal..women like them do not exsits anymore on are off stage.what happend to real women like them who knew there nature and understood what being a woman was all about they had beauty inside and out,,not one female singer of today can compare to any of these beautiful sisters,i always had a fever for them and it wasnt a boggie Fever

  • the sylvers got the boggie fever to..lol

  • What a talented and gorgeous family. Love the choreography. Edmund sure was fine!

  • @flowers0fpeace I know thats right!!!

  • i never heard of this group but theyre great reminds me of the jacksons.

  • Awesome! But, what's up with the audience? No emotion.

  • @949galaxy I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the audience was told to stay seated by the director. It's the only explanation I can think of for people quietly sitting through a killer performance like that. :-)

  • Awesome!

  • Class.

  • Somebody must've had some haterade or missed an eye docs appointment.

  • The Sylvers!!! They are my favorite singing family.

  • WOW! I remember when my afro was that big!!! LOL

  • Props to the Sylvers for performing the song live, instead of using the record! :D

  • I say, what are they trying to do? Steal The Jacksons act? What nerve!

  • @kja427 no.......The Osmond Brothers tried to steal the Jacksons act....The Sylvers had their own style.....own music. those of us that grew up with them never got the impression they were tryin' to rip the Jacksons

  • @pdddddp1 Exactly! But since The Sylvers are black it was directed at them! It's like there couldn't be another hot black young singing group,we must have only 1...that mentality HELPS NO ONE!

  • could those afros get any bigger

  • Comment removed

  • They danced they asses off on this! The singers of today wish they could do it like this!!

  • sounds very like day tripper, but i like it

  • @lillewilli you're right it does sound like Day Tripper... I just went back and listened to it... When it came time to get paid I bet there were mad motherfuckers in this family... Half the cash went for that Afro Sheen I'm sure...

  • @DSCOBLUE Afro-sheen...hysterical!!! Man that had to be rough though all jokes aside.

  • Excuse me...I meant OLYMPIA looks especially radiant in this clip, al the sisters are super fine!

  • Olympis looks especially radiant in this clip!

  • The drummer and bongo player in the background have no soul.

  • I think this wins the all-time afro competition...big, and seriously well-rounded and even. I can't imagine what that looks like after you sleep on it.

  • @marellamofo You've got great points...I noticed that too. Happy Birthday to Olympia and Ricky Sylvers!

  • Although I never compared the Sylvers to the Jackson, The Sylvers was the hottest thing going on at the time. During this time is when the Jacksons were in transition from Motown to CBS recordes. At around the time of this performance is when the Jackson family added Rebbie Latoya and Janet to their music act. So anyone can see that the Sylvers had some influence on the Jacksons at one point. Maybe I should say the Jacksons record company. You know the music industry loves jumping on bandwagons.

  • @marellamofo I agree with most of what you said but I disagree with you when you said the jacksons were copying off The Sylvers by adding Janet, LaToya and Rebbie. The Sylver's act was based off of them being a family musical group that recorded together. The Jacksons only used the sisters in their Las Vegas acts and Tv show. They never recorded with the sisters as a music group!

  • whats wrong with the audience ? they will never be infected with the boogie fever !

  • Wow this riff sounds soo similar to day tripper by the beatles.

  • if you guys have not, go like the sylvers offical page on facebook, and join the messagr board at yahoo groups for updates, rare photos, magazine articles, and the "aint nothing but a party" performance. you will like it :)

  • I love Fosters squeeky voice. So cute!!!!

  • qdub, you put it into words perfectly.

  • My clumsy butt would have fallen... LOL!!

  • Lil Slyvers gotta be by his sisters thats funny he can come by the big boys when he's grown

  • That damn audience needed life support, wth?? That was a live ass boogie down performance if I ever saw one!!! Sylvers Forever!!!

  • @Nanadsyl ..unfortunalely that was the Midnight Special Audience for a while..they would just sit there and then applaud at the end...the show got on my nerves because people are performing their asses off and the audience just sits there...the producers of the show must have been out of the minds or maybe they were hungover...lol

  • @leniebabe44 You know what I was usually out partying or watching Saturday Night Live back then so I didnt really watch the show too much lol!! That Sylvers performance was hott!!

  • i have loved this song since I was a kid. I had this song on 45 and learned the bus stop to it -- i absolutely adore this song and still listen to it often

  • Classic song from the Sylvers.. performing boogie fever on the midnight special..

    thanks for the great memories..

  • I like the lighting at 0:15, classic seventies.

  • How many people, if they heard this on the radio, would think this was The Jackson Five? Can I get a show of hands....I thought so, me too.

  • @skooter72 No, I wouldn't...too many strong voices singing to be the Jacksons.

  • Those Fro's are badass! this song still gets play on my roadtrips

  • @wellingtonian Yep! And isn't it interesting how the girls all seem to be ahead of their time on the hairstyles and fashion? I love the pics of them when they ALL had the afros. What a strong and talented family!

  • I love The Sylvers...But I must say that I hate dead audiences..

I don't see how anyone could sit down to that performance....And the boys voices really standout in this performance, they sound great.

  • @Nina513 Yeah, but that audience WAS mostly white, even though they were on The Midnight Special show, which was supposed to be so hip and cool with all that acts they showcased. That audience WAS pitiful...dead, dead, dead! They could've at least had some cues for the audience to get hype like they do now...but that was then...Ed Sullivan's audiences were much more lively, it seemed.

  • @MamaNuveau So tru...

  • @Nina513 Hey! I just watched your video on UNSUNG! I FEEL you! I thought me and my cousin Wayne were crazy and obsessed or something because we both LOVE that show so much and are addicted to it! He tapes all the episodes and watches them AGAIN with me! We have such a good time enjoying the info...Stuff you never KNEW about these people who made this music that we loved and grew up with (because our PARENTS played some of it!). I can't pick a favorite episode...Debarge? Sylvers? Tammy Terrell?

  • @MamaNuveau It was the 70s...maybe the audience was hung over, jokes!

  • Not many people realize Chris Rock was in this band.

  • @Whammo1963 Chris Rock? You must be smoking 'rock'. Don't besmearch this talented family like that by making an ignorant comment.

  • " I took my baby to the DRIVE IN show" What a great time era! Drive in's, fashion, hair,(great afro's,purfectly round) and the music just awsome !

  • gooooooood song and dance. just sitting here counting the kids; man their parents were IN LOVE to have all those kids. maaaaan.

  • That choreography is sooooo amazing! They really got down up there! I cant believe the crowd was just sitting there. How can you just sit there amd stare and something like that and not dance? I would have caught the boogie fever right along with the sylvers!

  • This is what I liked about the Midnight Special. No gimmicks, no super technology, just real singing at its best. I think if the MS were around today, it would not survive, because there is no real talent out because of what these state of the art recording studios offer. Good live singing, dancing and on key. Now this is talent.

  • this family was pretty good for short time...they had the burden of ...not necessarily trying to copy the jacksons (although they were pretty much lol) but trying to compete in the jacksons world...had some sucess, but ultimately didnt stand a chance...may have even been a more talented family overall, but michael's charisma and stage presence put him and his brothers in another stratosphere

  • I saw that Episode It was very interesting

  • Damn, they're singing live & on key with precise steps and the audience doesn't wake up till the end!!!!

  • @vhickerson Not too many of today's performers can do that.

  • I think someone needs to check the pulse of every member of that audience...because they sure look DEAD to me...sheesh....GO SYLVERS!

  • This Group had pure raw talent !!!, All the singers of the today should take notes and learn from the best and you are seeing with your eyes now, their music takes me back to a time when life good, and stars where stars and these where stars, My only wish is that they someday will be compensated properly and fairly for their hard work and efforts and great music which sounds just as good as the day it came out. This Family has my support in anything they do or release, thanks for the memories.

  • great performance by the Sylvers. have to say though that its so sad to know what Olympia endured as told on unsung. what a professional... it looks like she's the happiest girl in the world... Meanwhile, thank you to the Sylvers family for great memories & for sharing your story. Since Pat & James & maybe the others mentioned God, I think its safe to say that their testimonial will help us to either avoid certain pitfalls or to remind us all that fame is not the end all. Bless you.

  • "Nadine, don't screw with my disco!"

    -Harold Lauder

  • This is Unreal! The times, The Style, the entire aura and presence of this group, this performance typifies the the musical essence of the times. As far as the perceived competition, there is none s far as I'm concerned. The Jacksons, The Sylvers and DeBarge were all Great! Every time I heard any of their songs on the radio or saw them on TV, I was eager to watch and see them. Notice how today there are very few popular black R&B or Rap Groups..Just Single performers. I miss those days.

  • 0:05-0:24: Riverdance, anyone?

  • @lshplayer90 them moves were EPIC, lol!!!

  • i love this song and edmund was a great singer and handsome as well he puts me in a mind of mario the singer they look alot rip edmund.

  • Everytime I hear this I can't help but think how Edmund's 11 kids alone could have made another generation of the Sylvers. "All night long we did the bump bump bump!" R.I.P. Edmund!

  • @raylo76 Haha! Needless to say Edmund had it going on!

  • @raylo76 - Is all that bump bump bump all night the reason Edmund Sylvers gone cause he wasn't getting his rest?

  • I hate that they had such a horrible contract giving that greedy manger 1/2 and its 9 of them performing!!Really sad!!!

  • I'm not extremely familiar with The Sylvers (just recently within the year began listening to their music); I thought that at their peak, there were 9 members. Which of the siblings is not performing here (or on the other Boogie Fever performances)? I'm thinking it's one of the sisters, as I thought there were 4 girls in the group. Had Olympia left by this time (1976)? I'm still working on which Sylvers is which...lol. I have the boys figured out, not sure which girl is which (from L to R).

  • @daretosayit I feel the same way. There were 9 members at the time of Boogie Fever, but in this video the girls from left to right are Olympia (with the hat), Angie, and Pat. Charmaine was the one who was not in this video. from 1976-1977 It alternated btwn Olympia and Charmaine in live performances until they both left the group.

  • @rhmedia1 ..Thanks a million for the reply. I noticed that in a few performances either I'd see 7 or 8 members instead of 9 (once the 3 youngest joined) and it always seemed to be 1 or 2 of the girls missing, so it made it a bit difficult for me to figure out who was who..LOL. I finally figured Pat, but the others I was having a time with since it seemed that they'd keep the same formation except either of the girls switched except Pat (which is why I figured her out). Loving this talented fam!

  • Oh and lastly a shoutout to the audience members on the bottom left hand corner beginning at 2:44 for being themselves and not worrying about the rest of the dead crowd during that performance. I would have been reacting the exact same way if not more in that kind of crowd.

  • After watching their profile on Unsung I also have a lot of appreciation for The Sylvers now outside of Boogie Fever and Hot Line. With that said, as I watch this video and enjoy their great showmanship and underrated talent, the comments about comparing the similarities of Edmund and singer Mario all over youtube does make me wonder, bc they never mentioned who Mario's father was in Mario's profile in Wikipedia and other sources. Something to think about folks. Anyway Much <3 to The Sylvers

  • I remember when this song was on the radio day and night. Olympia was so beautiful in this performance. And of course cutie pie Foster.

  • They're on the stage rocking and everyone's just sitting there like it's a black and white movie. Come on crowd show some emotion. Sing along, clap your hands, something.

  • @jonb3917 I can remember watching Midnight Special back in the 70's and that was the audience all the time..u rarely saw anyone rocing to the groove

  • Oh,my goodness THEY WERE INCREDIBLE! I'm witnessing powerhouse voices(check), moves/energy(check), style(check), naturally great looks(check). Everybody was getting it all at once...all 8 of 'em! Unbelievable. They deserved so much more than what they got/get from the business. As a group THEY DON'T COMPARE TO ANY period.

  • damn I love those fros!

  • Wow the Sylvers were so talented. I like Unsung for introducing them to a younger generation so we can realize there was more than just the Jackson 5, etc

  • LOL! Foster was yelling it out, wasn't he?

The Sylvers were so amazing, their voices...Those hip moves....

    Thank God for Unsung...

  • MEMPHIS TENNESSEE, IS WHERE THEIR FATHER WAS BORN ONCE AGAIN MEMPHIS HAS A CONNECTION TO THE WORLD,,,,,, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL SET OF PEOPLE..

  • BLACK PPL NEED TO GO BACK TO THE PPL THEY REALLY WERE BEGINNING WITH THE BEAUTIFUL AFROS AND STOP ASSIMILATING INTO WHITE CULTURE THAT WATERS DOWN WHO BLACK PPL ARE AS A WHOLE

THE BEGINNING OF BLACK DOWNFALL IN AMERICA BEGAN WHEN THEY ASSIMILATED AND BEGAN TO BE ASHAMED TO BE BLACK CUTTING THE BEAUTIFUL AFRO AND STRAITENING THE HAIR LIKE EURO'S

    PEACE!

  • i LOVE THE hair and costumes they put today's performers to SHAME~!!

  • I wish my hair would grow like that...

  • Their mom must have spent over a decade straight pregnant.

  • The audience looks stunned. I would've been dancing. :~)

  • Wow... now that's what I call perfect pitch. None of today's musical equipment for pitch control. Just live music and live vocals. Such true talent that never got a chance to live.

  • They were almost river dancing. lol Much love to the Sylvers. Glad they were profiled on Unsung.

  • @Meela234 River dancing. You got me rolling!

  • Was flipping thru channels and caught "Unsung.....could not believe they were featuring "The Sylvers". I was a teenager when they were out....loveddd them. Always wondered what had happend to them. Was sad and shocked at some of the things they went thru. Sylver family want you to know what pleasure and joy u all brought me...Thanks so much !!!!!

  • The Sylvers are like the rest of the NBA in the 90`s. The only thing that seperated them from the Jacksons family. and the Bulls from the rest of the NBA. Those damn those damn MJ`s If it was`nt for Michael they could have been just as good if not better than the Jacksons. BUT OOH WHAT A BIG DIFFERENCE IT WAS.

  • Yes they were i have all there albums its just said that they did not have the long javerty of the Jackson 5 alot of people don"t even know who they are rock hall of fame take notice!!!!

  • i like the olden days, although i wasnt alive. i like how everyone can sing and they didnt need all these machines "enhancing" their voices. i like how everyone can sing live. no lip syncing necessary . back in the days seem great

  • These guys were really good.

  • Loved the Sylvers. But what the heck was up with that audience? You could have thrown a grenade in the crowd and no one would have moved!

  • Absolutely awesome

  • the crowd is sooo dead until lik near the end

  • Watched unsung, Wow ! Let me say what a Strong, Classy, Intellengent Woman Mother Shirley Sylvers is!! And she can sang too!! lol. Thank you Sylvers Family for sharing your private, heart ache & pain, (I truly felt it too)you didn't have to do it !but you did, what a classy family. I hope each & everyone of you will always feel all of the prayers coming your way from your fans. To the entire Sylvers family much love, joy, peace & respect Forever Yours.

  • @mzvoice14

  • If you think about it, back in the 70s a family band usually had mostly boys in the family. Then I think this is like the Jacksons when they would be on their show. I just think God created the 70s in a way that will be talked about in history books if we're lucky. The 70s are great!!

  • Wow Unsung interview was EXPLOSIVE, I never knew what Olympia was going through. I had no clue Ricky & Foster were in prison for parole violations. I am glad they're getting it together. But I must say they sound good still. Angie was always my favorite. I didn't expect so much weight gain tho LOL, but I was glad to see them, and they all looked good. I must say I had the whole Leon situation mixed up, the group actually voted him out and got screwed in the end over a record contract SMDH

  • @masculine31 I agree; this Unsung was AMAZING...and to think it was not apart of the original ordering of shows - as Evelyn King was to be the season finale. Foster's mug is actually on file on a California registry; and I just hate to see it there and hate to know that he and Ricky have had the issues they've dealt with; I'd rather just enjoy the videos/pics of him while with the group. I was surprised at Angela's revelation of her alcoholism, but glad she's overcome her issues also.

  • @daretosayit I know I was shocked by Angie's confession, but it was reality. I'm just glad she was able to beat her demons. As for Ricky & Foster, they are too old for that kind of behavior. Bad association spoils useful habits. The bible does not lie. I did not like seeing Foster on there either. It is what it is tho. All u can do is learn from it. We all need to get closer to GOD tho.

  • @masculine31 ... you can't argue with that. :-) ...now maybe they and everyone else can learn from it. It still amazes me how many people get into this type of trouble when they see so many before them have fallen.

  • Boy those fro's were picked to perfection!!! Foster was my boyfriend when Michael J. wouldn't act right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lolllllllllll

  • @skidiva1 4 real....

  • @weezy11972 In my mind YES!!!! lolllllllll

  • The Sylvers on Unsung ? I will be in front of the television tonight !

  • I've just thought of a current artist that reminds me of the males in the Sylvers. Especially Ricky and Edmund. It's Mario! He even has a high voice like them. Listen to "How Do I Breathe".

  • @Calvin375 I was just thinking the same thing, but also those 2 also look like Chris Rock.

  • A great performance, I can't wait to see them on Monday August 1 on unsung.

  • i luv diss song so much :)

  • I could use this number as one of my workouts. Feel like I lost some weight just watching them dance. Loved me some Sylvers!!

  • actually the Brady kids studies Sylvers tapes to try to capture this sound when they performed on the show - you can see it in the brady kids performances

  • @Mixxersmix Ya I see

  • They were the largest sibling group ever, and they had their choreography down. There was even another brother that didn't perform with them. And yes young Rickey Slylvers sounded somewhat like a young Michael Jackson and even a young Donny Osmond. Back in the day when Donny sang "One Bad Apple Don't Spoil The Whole Bunch of Girls; we thought that the Jackson 5 were singing until we saw the album cover. All of the Sylvers are still living, except for Edmund.

  • @tommiexander Actually, that's FOSTER that sounds like a young Michael. Ricky hardly ever sang lead. Edmund (who is now deceased) sang most leads, as he did on Boogie Fever.

  • lakerzz lol

  • lol how could they be a bad j5 ripp off they wher out be4 j5 the grup was the lil angels they change it to the sylvers ....

  • im jus a sylvers fan...... j5 was good i jus lik them more..wooow i for 1 cant wate to see unsong

  • Wow, great post! If my memory serves me correctly my grandfather did the choagraphy for this song too!!!

  • Love this real family harmony and great music, beat the crap out of rap. Like them as good as the Jacksons !

  • LOL at the audience...they look mesmerized!

  • WOW...That's my Boi Omar playing the drums back in the day...lol

  • I use to hate these outfits LOL...Pat usta get down

  • Per Angie Sylvers, the Sylvers Unsung episode will air 8-1-11 on TV ONE. If the date changes she will let us know...

  • Please Lord..in my lifetime..bring back tight pants for men.....I know you will understand if by then, I'm an old lady oogling hinies...amen.

  • LOve The Sylvers!!! So talented, so good to look at !

  • I posted a year ago that Angie Sylvers was not interested in doing an "Unsung" episode. Well they changed their minds. Yaaaaaaay! They just finished taping and it will air in the Fall. I have seen pics from the taping. Foster and Ricky did not participate. But Olympia did and she looks great. I can't wait to see it. So many fans voted for The Sylvers on "Unsung"

  • @COP20VOW : That's too bad! I use to hang out with Foster when we were kids in between rehersal breaks with my grandfather. I wonder why they both chose not to participate?

  • Foster was so cute back in the day. They could dance their butts off too. So talented

  • The Sylvers have just finished taping their episode of "Unsung" for TV One. It will air in the Fall

  • @COP20VOW Finally!!

  • I love the girls silver high heels. I wished I had a pair. So I could dance and shake my boogie around.

  • Gosh, everyone is skinny and fit.
