Alot of people seem to be under the impression that people who are drafted are immediately thrown into a combat roll, that is simply not true. In fact, i think it was said that 95% of military work is NOT combat. So there is plenty else women could do in the army. Besides, there would be obvious exceptions made for pregnant women/mothers in the age group for the draft.

I don't think it will be that easy. I went into the Army when the draft was still in effect. I've seen all kinds of tricks to get out and they didn't work. They'll put you in the stockade and give you hard labor for 2 years and I mean HARD labor. 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year moving a pile of gravel across a field with a shovel. And when you get that done... start all over again. And they don't feel sorry for you. They don't allow many breaks.

also the draft bill that was proposed would not be a real "draft" so to speak but would be more of a requirement for short term millitary service like is done in many other countries. This would not necessarily mean that one would have to serve in a conflict, it only requires short duty in some millitary related service. Once you join the military you join a dictatorship. First they take your DNA and blood, "so they can identify you if you die". However, military service builds character and helps people develop an appreciation for the things they have, which are only possible in many instances here in the USA. I would have the draft in peacetime too, to instill discipline in youngsters, who are so sorely lacking it nowadays. I agree that military service is not the only way to serve.

Difference between all volunteer military and the draft.
With all volunteer, only the poor and low income kids will join the military. They almost always become enlistees and do the brunt of the dying.
With the draft, they will be forced to enter enlistment and die. And the sons of the rich and connected will still be protected or allowed to become high ranking commissioned officers with the priveledge to sending others to die.

Alot of people seem to be under the impression that people who are drafted are immediately thrown into a combat roll, that is simply not true. In fact, i think it was said that 95% of military work is NOT combat. So there is plenty else women could do in the army. Besides, there would be obvious exceptions made for pregnant women/mothers in the age group for the draft.
You can't cherry pick if you want to be considered equal.
All that said, being drafted would suck for everyone.

I don't think it will be that easy. I went into the Army when the draft was still in effect. I've seen all kinds of tricks to get out and they didn't work. They'll put you in the stockade and give you hard labor for 2 years and I mean HARD labor. 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year moving a pile of gravel across a field with a shovel. And when you get that done... start all over again. And they don't feel sorry for you. They don't allow many breaks.

also the draft bill that was proposed would not be a real "draft" so to speak but would be more of a requirement for short term millitary service like is done in many other countries. This would not necessarily mean that one would have to serve in a conflict, it only requires short duty in some millitary related service. Honestly I dont see whats so bad about it, if you are living in the US you should at least be willing to serve a short time in some millitary position temporarily.

Once you join the military you join a dictatorship. First they take your DNA and blood, "so they can identify you if you die". You give up all rights and your vote doesn't count, absentee ballot don't count for anything. You have no rights as a human being. The military has their own laws, the UCMJ. You screw up in the service they can kick you, brand you an undesireable and you can't get a decent job in the civilian world.

What? Scared? I fully support a modified draft, where EVERYONE would serve in the Reserves, (branch of their choice), one weekend a month, two weeks per year. EVERYONE goes to Basic Training at age 18, and EVERYONE gets to realize what it takes to serve our country and be a good citizen. I am tired of all these chickenshits who want all the privileges but none of the obligations, and that includes you, crash9551. Maybe that would help reduce the rates of crime and general gangsterish behavior...

If war came to our door step me and millions of others im sure wood pick up a gun but I am not in favor of a draft that will deploy people to fight an imperialistic war. If you believe that we fight for our freedom these days you are living in a dream land. Besides being in the military is not the only way to serve your country. Patriotism is a foolish word and is used to rally masses. To be a real patriot is to love your country for the right reasons and try to make it better. Not war.

I agree with you in general terms. However, military service builds character and helps people develop an appreciation for the things they have, which are only possible in many instances here in the USA. I would have the draft in peacetime too, to instill discipline in youngsters, who are so sorely lacking it nowadays. I agree that military service is not the only way to serve.

I agree with your view of current American personal values. I am 25 and I see the downhill slide that most are on. I think that a realization of the big picture is the true cure. That our families are deteriorated, our media is garbage, our schools are weak etc. I agree with you the the military has its place in many peoples lives and would do them a great service. I do not however think that forcing someone to risk their life unquestionably is the answer. But I agree with much of what u say

Difference between all volunteer military and the draft.
With all volunteer, only the poor and low income kids will join the military. They almost always become enlistees and do the brunt of the dying.
With the draft, they will be forced to enter enlistment and die. And the sons of the rich and connected will still be protected or allowed to become high ranking commissioned officers with the priveledge to sending others to die.
