i put 5k hours on one just like that ........ working for a land clearing contractor in east Texas drag'n whole trees stump and all it is a hoss nothing compairs its the bull of the woods
@NUB420DUB yea we had a idiot running ours one time and for some reason the shocks were took of and the strap that keeps the door from going open all the way was off and the door came open and the front tire garbed it and ripped it off completely it took 2 hours to get it back strait and operating
yeah john deere and 525 cat's are the skidders I've ran. you have a lot more power than a 518 cat but I guess if your on flat ground it doesn't matter as much. I skid on pretty steep ground to where you can't even back up it and you have to have a cat build a trail to the top and just bail off and grab the logs on the way down. We log pretty good size wood as well some butts on the logs going 7ft plus avg is about 3ft tho. But yeah... you wanna know about skidders hit me up only rolled a couple
@onieye what i need to know mostly onieye is are you hiring ? i have been on mostly flat groung i would sure like to experience what your talking about
I never ran a grapple before ,they sure look realy handy. A buddy of mine has one a timberjack 360 grapple. Say's he get 's more skids then a cable a day i run a cable .A cat 518 ,and a timberjack 460d the cat Has 5/8 cable with 6 sliders and an 1 inch on the jack with 10 sliders, and it takes a hell of a man pull it a round but would like to try a grapple for once.
When I first met my husband almost 16 years ago he had just bought his first grapple machine, a 518 cat. Before that he ran line machine and I have to say wow he was pumped in the arms back then ;) The grapple sorta takes that away :( but it sure does bring the wood in faster.
Great machines. Your hubby has kept his looking good, not all beat up, very straight. The E models are legendary tractors. Just curious as to why he heels the trees against the rear frame like that?
Very nice looking machine. If the mill cuts him off or sends him home please let me know and I will sell that machine for you at market value.
Yes he does keep it in great shape, it's a never ending job :)
I'm getting a "video not available" right now but I think the part you're talking about is where he's lifting the tree off the fence in the other video, he didn't want to mangle the fence.
Thanks for the offer, right now we are keeping it, it's paid for and no payments are great :)
dosnt matter what attachments on the end of the stick, volvos are garbage!! just like dodge.! sounds like YOU need more experience in logging and life in general.
Did you even understand what i said? I never said anything about.. "attachments on a stick" it would be the boom and head. tell me mike, really, what peices of heavy machinery can you run.
all of them dipshit, been operating for the last 15 years.I dont think you understand rookie, theres a stick between the boom and head. Hoe, buncher, butt n top, dangler they all have a stick between the boom and the head. I can tell just by reading your coments, that you dont have a clue about equipment or operating.I have been operating for 15 years.Logging and mining some construction, how bout you ? oh ya dodge sucks!!
uh, ive been running grapple cat and wheeled skidder in the woods for 15 years and no one calls them buckets. buckets are on excavators and backhoes fool. a comparable timberjack runs more like $300k, i dont think they even put the deere name on them anymore. and dodgeboy, youre 14. shut up.
other way around dave, deere bought out timberjack a few years ago, and i agree with you on dodgeboy, shut up .haha bucket on a skidder, thats a good one!
yes i know that. every once in a while you still see a piece of deere equipment in the woods from before the buyout. what i was saying is since they bought timberjack there are no more machines being made with the deere name on them. i have a buddy that worked at the deere plant in iowa welding on the skidders and wheeled harvesters for several years

Kik a new 648H is around 230k usd. not sure about 748s..It would pull more wood than this 748e probably.. just because its new(duh) .. has more horsepower and a bigger bucket etc.
Do you mean where did I take the video? It's taken in our backyard in Lillooet BC Canada. My Hubby was moving a bunch of wood that had been cut up with a portable mill and I thought it would be interesting to shoot some video. He's usually out in the bush somewhere with a lot steeper ground and much bigger wood.
Ive got to respect someone that runs a rubber tire skidder on steep ground. I spent a summer running D5 grapple cat on steep ground and that was scary enough for me. skidders are fun on flat ground though, one of my favorite machines to run.
i run a D5 high track with a swing grapple and yeah it makes switchbacks and slopes interesting. I love running wheeled skidders though. i miss it. 748s a nive machine
I consider the "line skidder" a dinosaur but everything has a place in the bush and sometimes modern equipment can't get where a grapple skidder can :) Thanks for the comment!
the first 20 seconds freaked the hell outta me ... its looks like a praying mantis head ...

How much bigger is the 748 then the 648? I see that is an E. I run a G with a swing grapple. It makes things interesting on sidehills though.

The 748E is wider and longer and has a little more power. The G series replaced the E series.
