The song is undoubtly beautiful. My only doubt: Sakamoto always composes "à la manière de": sometimes he imitates or reechoes Jobim, sometimes Satie, sometimes someone else... Has this man a musical identity of his own?...
You should give a listen to the album Chasm. He has his hands far dipped into the world of experimental electronic music and his music was revolutionary in the form of YMO. Ryuichi Sakamoto has created an identity for many musicians.
It is interesting what you have observed and it seems true enough. But what Sakamoto does he does it so well. And I could only add that a sort-of Japanese sensitivity does surface in how he plays those notes, it's not Jobim for sure. BTW, I think it's a great song even though I do not understand a single word:)
congratulation! This performance is the other face of our intimacy!

I will listen to Chasm carefully. Thanks.
p.s. Your last sentence is very interesting: I didn't consider this side of the problem.
