I definitely prefer oil paints as well. Acrylics dry flat and the colors don't stand out as much... not a fan

I don't like working with acrylics either, regardless of slow drying medium or retarders it still dries and works in a way I don't like. I wash brushes immediately and they still dry in the bristles too fast.

I like the properties/handling of oils much better. For me acrylics don't blend so well and don't layer or has the luminous qualities of oil.

Sorry, but I am sticking with oils.

Oil is easier, but if you're fast enough Acrylics works too. You just can't afford to make any mistakes.

Good video. The flatness of acrylics can be ameliorated by a glossy varnish when you're finished painting. Yes, Golden's Open Acrylics dry much slower and ALMOST act like oils. However, if one wants to blend, stroke out fine lines easily, and have more control over drying time, then oils are better. SInce linseed oil has a smaller molecule than acrylic medium, colors can be ground more densely. Transparent colors are more transparent in oils. However, for thick impastos, I'd go with acrylics.

I don't buy it.. Acrylics and oil both have their benefits.. No Problem have been found with acrylics paint, its just this Ma'm is so slow in painting :)

You can eat acrylic, but oil contains heavy metals and upon ingestion will mess you up. Flamable and toxic fumes in oil mediums and turpenoid, which are not shared in acrylics... Oil paint only in a ventilated space. yeah I'd say oils are very toxic when compared to acrylics, but all the while more vibrant and chromatic.

@Gcontroller I would not recommend eating any artist grade paint, no matter the pigment, just to be safe. I believe there are food grade paints one can eat, or you can make them yourself, like in cake frostings. ;) I agree that oils tend to be more vibrant than acrylics and I've found they stick better to the canvas and lower layers. Use acrylics for paper however, because oils/alkyds etc. will rot most papers if unsized. If one is not concerned over permanence, use whatever you want.

Try using flow enhancer, helps acrylics stay wet longer so you can blend together and have a lil more time to get it right :)))))))))))

Try the OPEN acrylics...extended drying time...up to days...and there are now humidifyers available....so this is a mute point now...it is the pigment that is toxic...so try not to eat it, drink it, or get it all over you...solvents are far more harmful...bad ventilation is more harmful...heck...nailpolish and the nailpolish cleaner...are so very deadly on braincells...so pick your poison...keep it clean.put a lid on your coffee!

@jetsonjoe An artist can pick less poisonous pigments in either variety of paint. If solvents are a big issue and you want to blend more easily, try the water mixable oils. W&N makes several kinds of mediums. If one wants regular oils but no solvents, thin with walnut oil. MGraham makes a nonpoisonous (no solvent!) walnut alkyd. Cleanup would be with soap and water. Walnut oil has an advantage in helping paint flow far more easily off the brush and helps in fine detail, more so than in acrylic.

well there's some liquids to add to the acrylic painting and it will dry slower, that's why acrylic it's more used to paint abstract foms, expesionist , cubist ... etc

@pc2macconvert They do, there's slowers out there you mix with acryl to make them dry slower.
