This was the year after I got out of the Navy. Bought my first house and started buying 1 oz silver rounds for the future. Both where good decisions as it turned out.
Cool video; fun to see all the amazing artists fighting for the top spot! All young and hungry back in the day; you had Madonna, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Huey Lewis, etc - the competition was tough!
lol wow! I just had a flashback from the times I used to hot wire my boyfriend's moms car and go cruising and listening to these tunes on the radio :D Good Times!

Dear friend, if you want to listen to this song again as well as an endless number of love songs I suggest you visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - look for the URL in Google (search Musica para Mimos). Greatest romantic hits of all times!!!
@TheRacer909 Moral depravity has always been around and personally, I love moral depravity. Still, how exactly is Lady Gaga more 'depraved' than Madonna? They're just doing what women have been doing since the 60's, showing some skin to get some cash.
Popular music has always been 'soft' and politically correct. That's what transitional forces like N.W.A,The Sex Pistols and Marilyn Manson are for; shaking the mainstream up a bit. Unfortunately we haven't had something like that in a long time
Gosh you know what a real reason to be proud of living back then was? If you lived many places in the Chicago area in the 60's/70's times weren't so good, but in the 80's they were.
Todays music for over last 15 years is completely boring, garbage, gay, stressful disturbing crap that i don't even call it music. MUSIC DIED really in 1995. 70s through early 90s was the Best Called MUSIC.
@The096757 WTF??? You have NO taste in music. All those songs are classics (w/ the exception of Madonna...her shit has always sucked, and I never knew the "Separate Lives" song)!
80's music was incredible, but 1985 even stands out among 80's music. Maybe the best year ever in the existence of man for great songs. Not only that, but the Nintendo NES was also released in 1985 with the best video game ever, Super Mario Bros. Also USA economy was BOOMING, everyone was happy. I dont think there were any wars going on. Times are horrible compared to 1985. Oh ya, gas prices in 1985 were well under a dollar a gallon iirc. Yet pay was almost the same as today. Take me back 2 85
80s music seemed have a much wider range of popular artists that appealed to different age groups, like from teenybopper stuff to 'mature' sounding and everything in between, compared to now
I was born in 81 and a lot of these songs are ingrained in me. As a 4 year kid, this music was so awesome and still is. Feel lucky to have grown up with this music.
Unbelievable.. I cannot describe nor put into words the way these songs make me feel. Memories.. So proud to say I was born in 1980 which gave me the opportunity to experience the most unique and original decade of classic music.
Like A Virgin, I had to brave Camden NJ for the first time en route to my cousin's store where I worked, I Want To Know What Love Is I was a fireman, Careless Whisper I was battling my first addiction in Chicago, Crazy for You I heard in a dream where I reunited with my dead daughter, Don't You Forget About Me, I was working Randalls, Everybody Wants To Rule The World I was working Pathmark, St Elmo's Fire I was working Grand Union, Heaven it was Acme Willingboro, Sussudio I pull recalled yarn
i was born in 1958 u younger people did miss a lot of great muisc and some awsome times but u can have them to its all in how look at things and i hope u have as many great times that i have r pelkey
@MrRunescapeportugal: Careless whisper was a great song. George Michael was very popular in the 80's. Now only the gay men like him. He lost most of his female fans.
Man, back in the 80's artist didn't have to be stupid teenagers to make it to no.1 with one of their classic songs. What the hell happen in the 21st century??? Now you have to show your ass and tits just to get a no.1 hits.
miami vice theme still sounds good. heart's "what about love" is not here while the phil collins duet was a 1986 song.
lots of eastcoast sun and beach for me in 1985, pink bubble gum icecream or blue cotton candy icecream, pizza and subs, too much alcohol, yet mid 1980s was the busiest and most eventful time of my life.
i literally could not ever sit still for one moment in the1980s but i am like a slug now. incredible-smelling personal products in the mid 80s that smelled like heaven.
Thank you so much for posting these chronological number 1 videos...what an awesome way to relive the 80s and early 90s, some of the best times in music and in life. I am but 34 years old but have lived this music for most of it...today's music just can't compare! Thanks again!
it is said by VH1 the worst #1 song of all time or is it the worst rock song of all time is We Built This City!!! um what do u call anything by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift???? @LaugermanPROductions This video is a literal representation of the songs that were #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1985, in chronological order. "Shout" by Tears for Fears was released in the U.S. on June 4, 1985, and it went to #1 on August 3, 1985. Whether a song was recorded or released in a previous year (in the U.S. or another country) isn't relevant to this video ;)
A year filled with memories, many of them sad. But at the end, faith, love, and hope from God helped me made it through those though times. The 80's were great!
All this great songs takes me back to my first high school year (1985) back to the country where i was borne (El Salvador). Wat unforgettable times. Very good compilation but I pretty sure there are a lot of good ones missing.
@MajCinematic He had three if you count the duet with Marilyn Martin. :) He also had a couple Top 5 hits ("Easy Lover" and "Don't Lose My Number") which peaked that year.
@idolwatcher0 GOD what a DECADE for Phil Collins!!! he had great songs! and his slow songs still had that power that didn't bore you, it just pulled u in! that year in June i turned 13! i honestly can't remember anything specific about that year,i know that i am sure i did NOT see back to the future in the theater, and i thik i first seen it on tv! same for Top Gun
@jusaLOSER It was said that Phil Collins was the most heard artist on the radio in the 80s. He had solo hits and hits with Genesis and was played on pop stations and also rock stations. He had great cross-over appeal.
Can somebody help me? ;) I have an 80s rock song stuck in my head and can't remember the lyrics or the artist or song, but I remember the chorus tune and have a recording of that...Can someone help me? ;)
Like a Virgin...touched for the very first time. LOLOLOL. Only in the 1980s...only Madonna. I was five years old in 1985. I remember this era oh so well hehe.
Yeah, and music went down the drain after the 1990s. Look at the crap that's winning Grammy's these days. Amy Craphouse? Beyonce? Taylor Swift? Der Lord what filth. Hell, even Milli Vanilli deserved a Grammy for being so damn fucking cool! Who cares if they didn't sing? They were fucking cool! Most musicians these days are chosen based on looks, not talent. And some have neither - like Amy fucking Skankhouse. What a worthless piece of shit that walking disease hairless monkey bitch is.
@jakemiller5000 Dam Jake, couldn't have said it bwetter myself, my man. today's music is fucking cheap, carbon copied bullshit. It's fucking fabrictaed horseshit.
There is no passion in music like there was back in the day.
And while there was some shitty music from the 80's (very little( at least they were creative and tried different things. Everything today, sounds the same, and fades away 6 months after it's release. Songs like these last a lifetime.
WELL SAID. Plus one for you! I agree with you completely that modern "music" (if you can even call it that) fades away so fast. Even the shittiest music from the 80s shits all over ANY new modern song.
AWESOME TIME IN MUSIC. CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MOST OF THE MUSIC NOW SOUNDS DEAD . 85 MR.MISTER BROKEN WINGS WHAT MUSIC NOW CAN RECREATE THOSE FEELINGS NOT MANY. I MISS THOSE DAYS OF NO WORRIES.
@TheIsraelr1, those years were the best definitely. I remember these songs on the radio, we enjoyed hundreds of real very good songs all day. This music will never die.
I love the '80s. The Brits had a good year in '85 with several short-lived acts and Phil Collins, but American icons Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder hit #1 this year. Add (Jefferson Airplane) Starship, and the US was represented.
Do hit songs of 1984!

@idolwatcher0 GOD what a DECADE for Phil Collins!!! he had great songs! and his slow songs still had that power that didn't bore you, it just pulled u in! that year in June i turned 13! i honestly can't remember anything specific about that year,i know that i am sure i did NOT see back to the future in the theater, and i thik i first seen it on tv! same for Top Gun
jusaLOSER 1 year ago
@jusaLOSER It was said that Phil Collins was the most heard artist on the radio in the 80s. He had solo hits and hits with Genesis and was played on pop stations and also rock stations. He had great cross-over appeal.

What a worthless piece of shit that walking disease hairless monkey bitch is.
jakemiller5000 1 year ago
@jakemiller5000 Dam Jake, couldn't have said it bwetter myself, my man. today's music is fucking cheap, carbon copied bullshit. It's fucking fabrictaed horseshit.
There is no passion in music like there was back in the day.
And while there was some shitty music from the 80's (very little( at least they were creative and tried different things. Everything today, sounds the same, and fades away 6 months after it's release. Songs like these last a lifetime.
LONG LIVE THE 80'S!!
GialloHorror 1 year ago 3
@GialloHorror
WELL SAID. Plus one for you! I agree with you completely that modern "music" (if you can even call it that) fades away so fast. Even the shittiest music from the 80s shits all over ANY new modern song.

"The Breakfast Club" and "St. Elmos Fire" are my favorite movies of all time.
How many of you thought at one point in time that Prince sang "Oh Sheila?" I think he meant to trick us into thinking that.

@TheIsraelr1, those years were the best definitely. I remember these songs on the radio, we enjoyed hundreds of real very good songs all day. This music will never die.

...and REO Speedwagon. I suppose they could be referred to as icons. (IMO it's a mix of longevity, number of hits, top-ten hits, record sales, etc.)
prezbucky 1 year ago
I love the '80s. The Brits had a good year in '85 with several short-lived acts and Phil Collins, but American icons Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder hit #1 this year. Add (Jefferson Airplane) Starship, and the US was represented.
prezbucky 1 year ago
Thanks for the beautiful memories :) my children have been raised on this music...lol :)
