  • Do hit songs of 1984!

  • This was the year after I got out of the Navy. Bought my first house and started buying 1 oz silver rounds for the future. Both where good decisions as it turned out.

  • Great Year 4 Music!

  • Stevie Wonder always looking like he's looking around for something

  • @MMA94NYC He's blind you asshole

  • I miss my youth:(. At least I have wonderful music from this decade to take me back now and then.

  • @MJmysummerlove Screw the music, give me back my youth, lol.

  • We are the 80s

  • WE ARE THE WORLD!!! WE ARE THE CHILDREN! We are the ones that make a better day so lets start giving...

  • Cool video; fun to see all the amazing artists fighting for the top spot! All young and hungry back in the day; you had Madonna, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder, Huey Lewis, etc - the competition was tough!

  • Jesus Christ, I'm old.

  • I just wanne say one thing: god bless... back to the future!!!!!

  • 1985 really was a great year for top quality songs. Have to say these all bring back some very nostalgic and warm feelings :) thanks

  • @steveiouk Have to add that this year alone beats anything I hear these days. The quality of number 1's lags a long way behind IMO :)

  • lol wow! I just had a flashback from the times I used to hot wire my boyfriend's moms car and go cruising and listening to these tunes on the radio :D Good Times!

  • I remember watching like a virgin on mtv before 1985.. how was it a #1 for 1985?

  • The year I was born. I'm only familiar with few songs. I wish there wasn't any technolgical improvement. We would be living the oldies life which is so cool. Love those days

  • Thanks for video; I rocked out!

  • I remember a lot of these.

  • Dude from Mr. Mister was so effin hot. grrrrr

  • Everybody looked hot back then; no freak shows....well, maybe one or 2

  • Ahhhh, how I long for the old days....

  • one of the best sound of music ever

  • @TheRacer909 The 80s were awesome until 89. Then it was not the 80s anymore. What does 97 have to do with it?

  • @TheRacer909 Moral depravity has always been around and personally, I love moral depravity. Still, how exactly is Lady Gaga more 'depraved' than Madonna? They're just doing what women have been doing since the 60's, showing some skin to get some cash.

Popular music has always been 'soft' and politically correct. That's what transitional forces like N.W.A,The Sex Pistols and Marilyn Manson are for; shaking the mainstream up a bit. Unfortunately we haven't had something like that in a long time

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • PURE PURE 80'S!!!!!

  • madonna looks horny..in the like a virgin vid...but its a shame shes gone a right fucking big head!!!

  • Gosh you know what a real reason to be proud of living back then was? If you lived many places in the Chicago area in the 60's/70's times weren't so good, but in the 80's they were.

  • great list, thnks

  • Broken Wings is a MASTERPIECE!

  • 80's music rocked. Plain and simple. But them hairdos.... lol.

  • @JackFlanders Nothing wrong w/our hair back then? It was a cool modern look.

Too bad styles today are boring short! No style what so ever like it was in the 50s!

  • @JackFlanders Got news for ya - your hairdo will look pretty dorky in about 20 years.

  • @2faced ha! That would be a miracle because I'm bald! lol

  • Todays music for over last 15 years is completely boring, garbage, gay, stressful disturbing crap that i don't even call it music. MUSIC DIED really in 1995. 70s through early 90s was the Best Called MUSIC.

  • I did thought along time ago that it was SADE who sang "Careless Whisper"

  • so glad I lived during these years,so much good music,I don't miss my poodle mullet however

  • 4:34 oh shit time to get up

  • Fuckin 80's kicked ass :)

  • YOUTUBE HAS BECOME THE GREATEST MEDIUM OUT THERE TO KEEP THIS MUSIC ALIVE!!!

  • @The096757 WTF??? You have NO taste in music. All those songs are classics (w/ the exception of Madonna...her shit has always sucked, and I never knew the "Separate Lives" song)!

  • I love the 80's....even though i was born in 1991, i love listening to the 80's

  • 80's music was incredible, but 1985 even stands out among 80's music. Maybe the best year ever in the existence of man for great songs. Not only that, but the Nintendo NES was also released in 1985 with the best video game ever, Super Mario Bros. Also USA economy was BOOMING, everyone was happy. I dont think there were any wars going on. Times are horrible compared to 1985. Oh ya, gas prices in 1985 were well under a dollar a gallon iirc. Yet pay was almost the same as today. Take me back 2 85

  • reo sucked

  • 80s music seemed have a much wider range of popular artists that appealed to different age groups, like from teenybopper stuff to 'mature' sounding and everything in between, compared to now

  • 1985 was THE best year for music ever

  • Nice songs! I don't see Sandra, though. She was a hit in Europe !

  • I was born in 81 and a lot of these songs are ingrained in me. As a 4 year kid, this music was so awesome and still is. Feel lucky to have grown up with this music.

  • I was born late 85 but that would make me a 90s kid .

  • Great List! I just wished the first part of the decade was covered as well.

  • LIKE A VIRGIN SONG WAS 1985? REALLY? OMG !

  • @ahfaxthis I Need a FOCKING CIGARETTE !

  • Unbelievable.. I cannot describe nor put into words the way these songs make me feel. Memories.. So proud to say I was born in 1980 which gave me the opportunity to experience the most unique and original decade of classic music.

  • We had a great time, no fear just life.......Loved those times....and if you saw any in concert.....no lip syncing lmao :)

  • Broken Wings: Greatest song ever made! Wish I had grown up in the 80s

  • George Michael's First #1 Song (Carless Whisper) was SOLO.. not a featured!

  • Superflash and the Space Army rule the 80's, live long the 80's!

With the Sexy women of the 80's with Sana Hayabubsa Japanese Heavy Metal Rock!

  • Like A Virgin, I had to brave Camden NJ for the first time en route to my cousin's store where I worked, I Want To Know What Love Is I was a fireman, Careless Whisper I was battling my first addiction in Chicago, Crazy for You I heard in a dream where I reunited with my dead daughter, Don't You Forget About Me, I was working Randalls, Everybody Wants To Rule The World I was working Pathmark, St Elmo's Fire I was working Grand Union, Heaven it was Acme Willingboro, Sussudio I pull recalled yarn

  • I was born 1983 Phil Collins ran the fuckin 80's

  • i was born in 1958 u younger people did miss a lot of great muisc and some awsome times but u can have them to its all in how look at things and i hope u have as many great times that i have r pelkey

  • I was born in 1985...hahaha

  • what a year in music!!!

1.Everybody wants to rule the world

    2.Don't you forget about me

    3.Broken wings

these are my top3 faves, but i love most of the songs here... where has all the good music gone? *sigh*

  • Excellent!!! I followed the charts very closely too and this was a very nice reminder!!!

  • one of the lost facts about most of these songs is that a lot of them were associated with movies AND the videos were priceless as well.

not only do I love the songs, but I love the images of movies and the videos it brings back to my mind too.

  • Best decade of music, love the 60's 70's but IMO 80's had the best.

  • At the time I couldn't stand most of these tunes as they were played over and over and I was all about Ozzy and Ratt at the time.

NOw I recognize some as cherished favorites; we built this city, careless whisper, don't forget about me, broken wings.

Could care less about Madonna at the time, but Music and Ray of Light are now 2 of the best albums I've ever heard.

  • When the was music, simply.

  • @timmhg, when the music was music, sorry, some beers on my head, remembering that wonderful year.

  • 3:50 is my favorite but I love them all :) 80s 4 life!!!!

  • Careless whisper is amazing

  • @MrRunescapeportugal: Careless whisper was a great song. George Michael was very popular in the 80's. Now only the gay men like him. He lost most of his female fans.

  • Cool.

  • Great video, it's nice to see a recap of one year's number ones... :-)))

  • I don't like this video

    .

    I love it

    .

  • Best songs ever...!!!

  • take me back to being 10 years old ! thank u :)

  • Man, back in the 80's artist didn't have to be stupid teenagers to make it to no.1 with one of their classic songs. What the hell happen in the 21st century??? Now you have to show your ass and tits just to get a no.1 hits.

  • miami vice theme still sounds good. heart's "what about love" is not here while the phil collins duet was a 1986 song.

lots of eastcoast sun and beach for me in 1985, pink bubble gum icecream or blue cotton candy icecream, pizza and subs, too much alcohol, yet mid 1980s was the busiest and most eventful time of my life.

i literally could not ever sit still for one moment in the1980s but i am like a slug now. incredible-smelling personal products in the mid 80s that smelled like heaven.

  • "I want to know what love is" was a hit in 1984

  • @jester99sch I know right....wtf?

  • THe one that stiks out like a sore thumb is Jan Hammers theme to Miami Vice. WTF? I wouldnt listen to that song if it was the last one on earth!

  • Now Accepting Donations to Build a Time Machine Back to the 80's.

  • @perpetual61 Are you accepting reservations as well?

  • GEORGE MICHAEL WAS THE KING OF THE #1S of the 1980s/1990s besides MJ

  • "One More Night" by Phil Collins is so haunting, beautiful, and 80s at the same time. One of my all time favorites from him.

  • lmao, only in the 80s could an instrumental theme song for a TV show make the top 100 :) I was born 1985! The best year of No. 1 songs!

  • What a year!!

  • I bought a Panasonic Walkman-like cassette portable player for just a quarter this weekend and it works great! Who needs iWhatever?

  • @pannoni1 LOL! That's outstanding! For just a quarter huh? Stupid iWhatevers!! LMAO

  • Thank you so much for posting these chronological number 1 videos...what an awesome way to relive the 80s and early 90s, some of the best times in music and in life. I am but 34 years old but have lived this music for most of it...today's music just can't compare! Thanks again!

  • Awesome 80s...the best decade ever.

  • The 1980"s had the best music.....EVER! So much variety. Todays music cant hold a candle to '80's music.

  • Can't thank you enough for these videos! For my 6th grade graduation we sung "I Wanna Know What Love Is." Great music and great times!

  • Damn good year!

  • Madonna, Wham and bad hair. Thank God it's over.

  • this was the year my daughter was born and the year after i courted her mother . GOD I MISS THE 80's

  • I can't stop watching all these compilations you have made... awesome!! congrats!! 1989 the best year in music!!!

  • For me the best year of the 1980's in music.

  • Lot of movie driven number ones this year...

Crazy for You - Madonna - Vision Quest

Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds - Breakfast Club

    A View to a Kill - Duran Duran - A View To A Kill

The Power of Love Huey Lewis - Back To The Future

St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion) - John Parr - St. Elmo's Fire

  • @Horkslair Say You, Say Me/ Seperate Lives - White Nights

  • Crazy For You... From one of my favorite movies ... Vision Quest! Awesome show.

  • 1985 is the year I was born!!! I love this music!!!

  • it is said by VH1 the worst #1 song of all time or is it the worst rock song of all time is We Built This City!!! um what do u call anything by Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus or Taylor Swift???? MUSIC today is a FRICKING JOKE!!!!!! of course the ones i mentioned aren't rock. how about just about anything by Kid Rock, Fallout Boy, Kings of Leon, or Onerepublic or Nickelback??? how about making videos for 1980 thru 84 too!

  • Dire Straits!!!!

  • ugh..that Foreigner soang was soooooo lame...I was 22 in '84 remember all these so well...GREAT YEAR!!!! But really, really bad music. I guess i liked it at the time but I'm not liking it now....give me the dead and dylan and I'll be happy.....(we built this city on rock and roll?....please)

  • ugh..that Foreigner soang was soooooo lame...I was 22 in '84 remember all these so well...GREAT YEAR!!!!

  • Music definitely was a lot of fun back then. Wonderful memories - thanks a lot!

... and by the way: surprising how many British acts made it to #1 of the U. S. charts in that year, isn't it.

  • I haven't smiled this much in a very long time, like I have in these 10 minutes this video was playing. I miss those days so much and if I could just go back for even 1 day...

Thanks for this walk down the road.

  • Phil Collins LEGEND!

  • buenas rolas de esos tiempos e inolvidables

  • great times!madonna wasn't even a total slut yet!lol

  • @nitrousden Yeah and she was hotter than fuck!

  • @GialloHorror Belinda Carlisle never became a slut! SHE was SO HOOOOOTTT!!! and her smile glowed from ear to ear!!!! I GET WEAK when i look at her weak! when we touched i can't speak when i look in her eyes! AHHHH! i LOVE the 80s and Belinda! WOW!

  • man the 80s were the BEST !

  • 2 People born in the wrong era dislike this video.

  • @LaugermanPROductions This video is a literal representation of the songs that were #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1985, in chronological order. "Shout" by Tears for Fears was released in the U.S. on June 4, 1985, and it went to #1 on August 3, 1985. Whether a song was recorded or released in a previous year (in the U.S. or another country) isn't relevant to this video ;)

  • OMG!!! Mr. Mister on 9:13! Oooooooooooooooooooooh! I love those guys!

  • @MajCinematic so what? so did Madonna, Tears for Fears, George Micheal

  • Stupende canzoni.

    Un saluto dall'Italia.

  • A year filled with memories, many of them sad. But at the end, faith, love, and hope from God helped me made it through those though times. The 80's were great!

  • All this great songs takes me back to my first high school year (1985) back to the country where i was borne (El Salvador). Wat unforgettable times. Very good compilation but I pretty sure there are a lot of good ones missing.

  • Back when MTV actually played music videos... Bring back the 80's! xD

  • @MajCinematic He had three if you count the duet with Marilyn Martin. :) He also had a couple Top 5 hits ("Easy Lover" and "Don't Lose My Number") which peaked that year.

  • @idolwatcher0 GOD what a DECADE for Phil Collins!!! he had great songs! and his slow songs still had that power that didn't bore you, it just pulled u in! that year in June i turned 13! i honestly can't remember anything specific about that year,i know that i am sure i did NOT see back to the future in the theater, and i thik i first seen it on tv! same for Top Gun

  • @jusaLOSER It was said that Phil Collins was the most heard artist on the radio in the 80s. He had solo hits and hits with Genesis and was played on pop stations and also rock stations. He had great cross-over appeal.

  • I LOVE IT!! Thank you!!

  • Things were solid and made to last back then. I should know I was born in 1985 :)

  • I sometimes wish I was born in the Mid 70's so I was able to hear and grow up with all this music. what a great decade it was

  • oohhh good music a long long time ago in years far far left behind - Prost

  • They're great! We need a time machine!

  • Great 8th grade dance slow "hump" songs. Loved the 80's!

  • 1985 has been one of the best years for music. Atter watch this I want to get a Delorean and back to 1985

  • It was the best decade of 20th centrury...

I don't know exactly what it was but life was much more colorful and joyful in 80's.

  • @wolftaylan yes it was

  • @wolftaylan ,,,,,,,,,,,,,So True

  • @wolftaylan Probably because you were a kid in the 80s like me. Everything's more colourful when you're 5 :)

  • Can somebody help me? ;) I have an 80s rock song stuck in my head and can't remember the lyrics or the artist or song, but I remember the chorus tune and have a recording of that...Can someone help me? ;)

  • @terceldude

    Post it

  • Like a Virgin...touched for the very first time. LOLOLOL. Only in the 1980s...only Madonna. I was five years old in 1985. I remember this era oh so well hehe.

  • Wow, we sure did like ballads in 1985. Were we that over British New Wave?

  • Ahhhh 1985 certainly the dirtiest of all the 80's Thanks Madona

  • some of the best love songs from that year...

  • Madonna started the year off right with a song that forever haunt her and thrill us...Like A Virgin. 7 weeks at number 1!!!

  • 80's r the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Most of these songs even played on the r&b stations in San Diego during those times.

  • George Michael (WHam!) have the best song:) 80´s was very cool im born in 94

  • george micheal have the best songs:D

  • Yeah, and music went down the drain after the 1990s. Look at the crap that's winning Grammy's these days. Amy Craphouse? Beyonce? Taylor Swift? Der Lord what filth. Hell, even Milli Vanilli deserved a Grammy for being so damn fucking cool! Who cares if they didn't sing? They were fucking cool! Most musicians these days are chosen based on looks, not talent. And some have neither - like Amy fucking Skankhouse. What a worthless piece of shit that walking disease hairless monkey bitch is.

  • @jakemiller5000 Dam Jake, couldn't have said it bwetter myself, my man. today's music is fucking cheap, carbon copied bullshit. It's fucking fabrictaed horseshit.

There is no passion in music like there was back in the day.

And while there was some shitty music from the 80's (very little( at least they were creative and tried different things. Everything today, sounds the same, and fades away 6 months after it's release. Songs like these last a lifetime.

    LONG LIVE THE 80'S!!

  • @GialloHorror

WELL SAID. Plus one for you! I agree with you completely that modern "music" (if you can even call it that) fades away so fast. Even the shittiest music from the 80s shits all over ANY new modern song.

  • When the music was called music!

  • "The Breakfast Club" and "St. Elmos Fire" are my favorite movies of all time.

How many of you thought at one point in time that Prince sang "Oh Sheila?" I think he meant to trick us into thinking that.

  • @sexykitten0627 uh not me lol! by them being from flint,mi we knew who they were. & i have those movies as well.......long live the 80's

  • i know this is a lot of work to do these but they are very good

  • And then people wonder why the youth of the 80's were always so happy and we were always dancing!

  • AWESOME TIME IN MUSIC. CAN'T BELIEVE THAT MOST OF THE MUSIC NOW SOUNDS DEAD . 85 MR.MISTER BROKEN WINGS WHAT MUSIC NOW CAN RECREATE THOSE FEELINGS NOT MANY. I MISS THOSE DAYS OF NO WORRIES.

  • @TheIsraelr1, those years were the best definitely. I remember these songs on the radio, we enjoyed hundreds of real very good songs all day. This music will never die.

  • ...and REO Speedwagon. I suppose they could be referred to as icons. (IMO it's a mix of longevity, number of hits, top-ten hits, record sales, etc.)

  • I love the '80s. The Brits had a good year in '85 with several short-lived acts and Phil Collins, but American icons Whitney Houston, Lionel Richie and Stevie Wonder hit #1 this year. Add (Jefferson Airplane) Starship, and the US was represented.

  • Thanks for the beautiful memories :) my children have been raised on this music...lol :)

  • Just UK Hits dominating the US all the way. What a year!!!!

  • How can you tell if you are an 80's fanatic?

When you have EVERY ONE of these songs. lol.

  • @CatsLairArchives, HAHAHAHAHAHA. I have them! ALL!

  • @timmhg How many hours worth do you have?

  • lol u should have put weird al version like a surgeon

  • 1985 .Best year in music history.
