He's playing by ear and doing a great job. I would like to know what key he's playing in and how long has he been playing. My email is freddy2bfree@gmail.com
I dont know why people are complaining about the over use of slap on this, I don't think its too much, in fact it adds a nice percussive edge to the cover. I'm sure someone else could have easily ruined it by going all 'Mark King' on the song and chucking in so many slaps and pops in the fills that you cant hear the notes lol! Nice cover mate, love the tone of your bass too! Like the perfect slap tone :D
Nice, but I agree with th overage of slaps & thumps. Lous Johnson was a pocklet bassist, so the best bet is to follow his line to the letter. Louis could've done extras, but it's about staying in the groove.
As far as the guitar is concerned, I like a very low action, plenty of give in the strings which I prefer to be light in gauge (.35's). I usually have all the controls on the bass turned fully up.
I have an Ashdown practice amp which I usually have the bass and treble turned up but with little or no mid. I use a Boss Limiter/Enhancer peddle and a Boss Bass Chorus peddle (just a little).
The sound settings for the Pandora are listed on my main page.
As with all your covers, excellent!!! you bring your own touch to the songs and make what was already a very solid groove even better! just wondering if you can spare a few tips on amp and guitar settings for a good base slap/pop tone? and also the setup on the guitar? im still a bit of a noob...haha keep it up and thanks!
I totally love this groove, and you really did it justice. Tell me. Is that a classic 70s fender MiM?

I'm terrible at this song. not as percussive as your slapping

Cheers!
MrDamo123 2 years ago
@then00best The percussiveness also comes from the particular bass type it is.

Just wondering is that the Fender Classic 70's Jazz Bass? Thinking about getting one, I take it your pleased with it?
Basscentral 3 years ago
Yes, its the 70's reissue. I am very pleased indeed. Especially like the position of the bridge pickup. Much prefer to the active jazz.
