  • I totally love this groove, and you really did it justice. Tell me. Is that a classic 70s fender MiM?

  • SLAP DAT BASS BABY!!

  • F~~U R SO GOOD;;THZZ,,,YEAAH LOVE THIS,,

  • wtf you are not black?

  • wtf you are not black

  • I honestly love all the slapping, even thought quite a bit of people don't agree.

  • I'am pleased that you are playing these kind of music.Great work

  • You need to feel the song while your slapping your strings, becuz ur slapping like this isn't anything.

  • I dont know why people are complaining about the over use of slap on this, I don't think its too much, in fact it adds a nice percussive edge to the cover. I'm sure someone else could have easily ruined it by going all 'Mark King' on the song and chucking in so many slaps and pops in the fills that you cant hear the notes lol! Nice cover mate, love the tone of your bass too! Like the perfect slap tone :D

  • I'm really diggin that bass (and your bass playing) I think you alone have convinced me to shell out about $900 for a new 70's RI

  • Nice, but I agree with th overage of slaps & thumps. Lous Johnson was a pocklet bassist, so the best bet is to follow his line to the letter. Louis could've done extras, but it's about staying in the groove.

  • Love 0:45 - 1:15

  • abused on the slap! But the second part it is quite nice!

  • Amazing!

  • Thank you my friend.

  • too many slaps....do not abuse of them.

  • dude...you totally rock!

  • Thanks for commenting.

  • I'm terrible at this song. not as percussive as your slapping

  • Cheers!

  • @then00best The percussiveness also comes from the particular bass type it is.

  • @then00best Don't feel bad I can't even slap at all

  • nice v neck

  • cant wait go for it

  • love this track cracking playing m8 10/10

  • Cheers rod. Stay tuned for an MJ medley I am preparing.

  • Thx for for ur play alongs. i am using them for a lot of my intros, when I do some presentations.

  • Thanks for the comment. Please use them. RIP Michael

  • Thanks very much for your comment.

As far as the guitar is concerned, I like a very low action, plenty of give in the strings which I prefer to be light in gauge (.35's). I usually have all the controls on the bass turned fully up.

I have an Ashdown practice amp which I usually have the bass and treble turned up but with little or no mid. I use a Boss Limiter/Enhancer peddle and a Boss Bass Chorus peddle (just a little).

The sound settings for the Pandora are listed on my main page.

  • As with all your covers, excellent!!! you bring your own touch to the songs and make what was already a very solid groove even better! just wondering if you can spare a few tips on amp and guitar settings for a good base slap/pop tone? and also the setup on the guitar? im still a bit of a noob...haha keep it up and thanks!

  • I swear you always pick my favorite songs. :-)

  • It seems we both enjoy quality tunes :-)

  • You are one talented guy, i hope i can slap like that one day, keep it up

  • Another classic, nicely done

  • Just wondering is that the Fender Classic 70's Jazz Bass? Thinking about getting one, I take it your pleased with it?

  • Yes, its the 70's reissue. I am very pleased indeed. Especially like the position of the bridge pickup. Much prefer to the active jazz.

  • Nice playin' mate! Just listened to your vid through my hi-fi speakers - it sounds awesome :-)

  • One word... Tasty!
