I'm still having trouble under standing something, is the Beast Wars in the future or the past?

That had me confused once also. The story was retconned, that's wht it's confusing.

SPOILERS (though if you've been paying attention, it isn't)>

You would think due to names like "Primal" and "Rhinox" that it was primitive and situated in the past. But Primal and the Maximals are actually DESCENDANTS of Prime and the AUtobots respectively. Shown because they went through a TIME WARP that sent them back to when the Autobot ship, the Ark, was still buried in the, presently, active volcano.

im confused, theultimateone, the maximals had their own ship and i understand 'the arc' for the G1 trans. but the other ship and its pc 'centinal' whats the story?

This is the Axalon, the scientific exploration ship in which Primal and crew followed Megatron and his Predacons, from future Cybertron (something like 2300 AD) to prehistoric Earth (around 3 000 000 BC), at the very beginning of the Beast Wars...The Ark has crashed on Earth one million years prior to these events...

It must be really weird for Rattrap. Up until 2 episodes ago, they used to live in that ship. The very same hallways they used to walk in he is driving a submarine through.
