Donnie.... I had to look hard and far to find the lyrics. For 20 years I thought you were saying "Oh Ollie". Ah Leah. Sounds much better. Leah what a nice name, and great song!
love that fat Strat tone - and the sorrowful doomed-love lyrics, this came out shortly after my divorce, and it felt like a theme song for a while - I still have the 45 rpm single!
@DONNIEP51501984 I've been a fan since I first heard it in '81. Learned at that time that Donnie's last name is Ierace - pronounced the same, and that he fronted the band The Jaggerz, who had a tree-hugging hit called "The Rapper" WAY the hell before the phenomenon/anomaly we know as "rap" came along.
actually Donnie had another Top 30 hit in 1981 but I've forgotten the title of the song, while it was a higher charting hit song than "Ah Leah" and "Love Is Like A Rock" it didn't fare as well on the Rock charts
great song, I'm surprised with the way Donnie Iris looked cause I've always pictured him with long dark blonde hair by the tone of his voice, it's a shame his successful run on the charts was cut short
41 years old, soon to have a fourth daughter, Ah Leah or Ah_Leah will be her name depending on legal system, all thanks to you Donnie, hook me up someday, another PA guy, we will set back enjoy a beer or two, and hell who knows. Maybe Donnie will show up after she is born and do another video with her ;)
@JDL2112 Ain't dat da truth. Just get yourself a "Rythem Ace Machine," program it to repeat the same chords 4,000 times, get a cat and step on its tail to make a wailing sound and you've got today's music. Yech!!!!!
5 things to note. 1) the bad hair. 2) the guitar playing halfway in the middle where he loses his clothes. 3) his teeth. 4) the bad 80s moves 5) pushing her away during the "oh oh oh " parts. classic
Back in the day when music was more important than how somebody looked. Now music stinks because we have pretty people who can't play or sing doing songs that producers bought for them from professional songwriters.
@Oddwun i'd also like to offer a point. music by itself is not the issue. the medium is changing radically almost by the month and the labels behind it are nothing more than puppy mills. it's so corrupt it should be dismantled and regulated. on top of that....the talent pool today is amazingly shallow. when woman beaters like chris brown and dope addicts like lohan get the lime it should tell anybody with ears that there simply isn't anything out there.
I was in high school when this came out in the early '80s and actually knew a girl named Leah. She didn't look like the girl in this video, though. Great tune.
I must've heard this song on the radio like 1000 times. Never knew who did it...or even the name of the song. After seeing this video...sorry I asked! LOL
lol dude looks like such a nerd...i remember when this song came out on the radio..never knew what he looked like though lol..cuz i grew up on mtv in the 80s watching head bangers ball...but they never showed this..strange..lol
There are few songs that just hit you hard in the early 80s. I'm talking about a crack to the back of the head that lead to your heart. This was one of the few. Very few.
Those of you who remember the early 80s know what I mean.
@tommyrock69 You got that right! 79, 80, 81, 82 were great years to be in high school and hear this kind of rock when it was brand new. Even since 81 when this song came out I've always felt it's the quintessential example of what rock is. Another song that ranks with this as great 1981 rock is Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) by Don Felder. These two songs take me back to when I'd drive through my high school parking lot in my 1976 Camaro with these two songs blasting from the back window speakers.
every jew in hollywood changes their name(fact)...who wants to hear from joshua schwartz?, or benjamin whateversteen, seriously, they're deceptive fuckers
@rook543 Agree with you totally, and I would add Elvis Costello and XTC to the list, and Howard Jones to the "technerd" herd. I never get tired of hearing "Things Can Only Get Better".Maybe I'm just getting old, but for me, music went downhill in the early 90's when MTV stopped running real music and started only showing rap and reality shows.
My word how long i have wanted to hear this classic man this is a great tune thats for sure I really need to thank you man No matter how many times i have heard this tune one never tires of it especially the nce lik from the guitar short but solid thnx again from CANADA EH
This video would've been way better with Donnie outside, riding a motorcycle on the streets of New York, wearing leather and sunglasses, and the girl on the back. But I guess you can't do a video like that with a budget of $49.00

2. This guy has a great voice.
3. This song, when it comes on in the Buick, makes you crank the volume knob all the way to the right.
4. Only douchebags search out videos and then talk shit about them - and you HAVE to be looking for this video to find it..
5. Regardless of how bad this video sucks..this song freaking rocks!!
