How do I open the eye back up? I went back down out of Catherine's room but it was locked and I tried the same combination and it didn't work! I want to get back to Ghen as soon as possible so if you could, please hurry as fast as you can to help me! :)
Thank you for uploading this. Nice, clean playthrough without talking all over it or anything. I got very frustrated just now because I got VERY near the end (entering the code to release Catherine) only to find that a glitch prevented me from doing so. (Clicking on the code entry buttons does nothing - no sounds, no animation, nothing. I was playing through a Win 98 SE installation on VMware, just to warn others.) Now, I can watch the final minutes of the game! Thanks!
Spooky, I've got the exact same bug here. 98SE, vmware, can't click the buttons on catherine's lock. I just about went crazy thinking I missed a lever to power it or something :/
@misterStoopid Ugh... have fun when you get to Myst 3, then! I'm playing that on XP via VMware, and looking through the "plant viewfinders" in Edanna results in unwatchable screen flickering and other nastiness.
Of course, Myst 3, unlike Riven, works fine on Windows 7 or any other modern OS of your choice... just it forces fullscreen in 640x480, looks horrid on a 1920x1080 screen. That's why I was using VMware. :/
Thanks ever so much for putting all these videos up - I never thought I'd see the end! How on earth did you figure it all out though?! I'm truly astounded :-I
There seems to be a big difference between videos 7 and 8. One minute you're on the submarine thing, next thing you're in the tower thing with Catherine. Did I press something wrong?
Either way, thanks a million for putting these up :-D
fun fact for you guys. the whole D'ni/rivenese language is both coherent and complete. you can read it, write it and speak it if you're willing to take the time to learn it.
I used to know a fair few words of D'ni. for example, 3:19, the lady says "Shorah'teh". which basically translates as "Hello" with an intimate suffix (teh) this is Gehns wife, recording a message for him, the math is obvious :P
@Rohan2300 It's hard to translate what Keta says in the imager, since the language she's speaking is neither Rivenese (that much is certain, since she had died before Riven's descriptive book had been written making impossible for her to know the language) or full D'ni. If I'm not mistaken, the parts that have been translated (or related from someone at Cyan) are "Is it ready? ... Peace be with you ... You know I will always love you to the greatest extent".
Dude that was AMAZING. THANKS so much for that. I've never understood this game and now I've finally been able to see how it works and what each thing does. I need to go find this game again and try to replay it.
Before now, Gehn's morality was a little ambiguous, you knew he once was evil, but now you're not so sure. But as soon as you read his personal journal here, you can be finally sure...
So... you first trap yourself in the book to make Ghen believe it's a linking book, and then when he goes to do the same, and he ends up swapping places with you?
Also, I'm a bit curious about the whole gun thing. In one of the episodes of The Venture Bros., Billy mentions that Pete "Fires a gun like a guy who plays Riven". Is he referring to the fact that everyone in the endings fired that weird gun from the hip?
Nah, you're correct. Remember in the first Myst game? The brothers who are trapped in their own prison books; if you enter any one of those books, you'll be trapped and they will be freed. Works the same here.
@Suzaku000 It was "You hold a gun like a guy that plays Riven." I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with the gun featured in Riven though. I think the most common belief is that it's some joke about the nature of pointing and clicking at still pictures to execute action, thus a person who played/plays the game would be inept at using something like a firearm.
@Suzaku000 I don't know about Venture Bros, but in Myst the the same thing happened when you completed the pages for the sons books. If you entered you switched places with them. (Then they tore the pages out and trapped you) lol
I know that NOW, but back in Myst I, you, the Stranger and the player, doesn't know how the Prison Books work. Apparently, neither does Ghen. I just got confused about it because of the way the video was edited.
when i try to put in the combination it wont let me.. it wont give me the animation that the buttons have been pushed.. what am i doing wrong.. btw i am playing the ps version
I just can't break that glass. is this a bug? katharina is free and I've entered the correct code so the metal thing is open. but I can run the telescope down as often as I want to, it just stops and doesn't break the glass???
There is a hidden safety switch in the lower left hand corner (it was mentioned in Ghen's journal), and the right switch above the button has to be rotated down.
Where do you get the 5 digit code for the end?
