  • @Wellch: you are a poor ignorant. I'm not sure you can even read, but have you read Don Quijote? (it is Spanish you jerk) Read, learn, study and them have the face to criticize...

  • @marcela21884 In the first place, "a poor, ignorant" what? "And THEM have the face to criticize"? Are you English literate?

Moving on... "Quixote" is in fact the original (and correct) spelling. Type "don qui" into any search engine, and it will suggest this version almost exclusively. That other is a more contemporary spelling. "Quixote" is from an older form of Spanish, but you wouldn't realise that because you're too busy being an arsehole to notice your own shortcomings.

  • If Don Quixote was in Hogwarts, He would most be in Gryffindor for his bravery, or in Slytherin for his ambition.

  • @Wellch I hope you die

  • It is never wrong or bad to be Don Quixote defending the honor Dulcinea!

  • I walked down the aisle 40 years ago to wed my true love. to this tune. It is still our theme song together.

  • @thekathybed Awww thats so sweet :D

  • A dear friend of mine whom I'm in love with is singing this song in our school's variety show.... he has one of the most beautiful voices I know, and will put so much soul into this. It's such a beautiful, impowering song... I hope it will give me courage so that I can tell him how I feel.

  • why the fuck does every great video and song get ruined by pointless political bullshit? I am political as hel but, for the love of God, listen to the beauty of this song.

  • This is an excelent rendition of "Man From La Mancha". The gentleman has a fine voice, enunciates perfectly, is in tune and on the beat with cresendo at the oppropriate moments.

I read Cervantes's "Don Quijote De La Mancha" while a student at San Francisco State University in an upper division class taught by Dr. Lombardo.many years ago. Dr. Lombardo was a fine instructor that helped me understand the beauty and magnificense of this story.

  • When I was a child my mother saw Richard Kiley sing this and this was her motto for life, it is mine as well. When my daughter graduated from medical school the speaker said that there was really one thing to say and a singer sang this song.......

Now I'm working to educate people on Horizontal Hydraulic Fracking.... so people can gain knowledge and understanding of it's process and it's ramifications.

  • Just sang this in the school talent show, standing ovation :)

  • @Takaheemuranastope awesome.... :)

  • This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a little girl and was in elementary school at Twin Peaks elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah, the Monarchs. Tammy Mast PhD, Your Royal Countess, These are the greatest words to live by, t

  • i think that is Brian Stokes he puts a unique fantastic show so much gusto in his singing I adore him

  • @loveita1

its not low enough to be brian, he's a baritone. though i like his version best, this is definitely too high for him.

  • Oh my god I love that F that Ron hits at the end. So amazing to the ears.

  • In '68 the country was so bitterly devided over the war and was in turmoil. 1st the TET offensive in Nam. Then LBJ was force out. Dr King and Bobby Kennedy were assasinated. Mass protest. Yet thru this I felt we needed to give South Vietnam a chance to be free. I'd been there before fighting as an infantryman. But talk was cheap. So I volunteered to go back in the army and back again to Nam again as a grunt. Unsure of my chances, yet singing this song to myself on the way over gave me solace.

  • O M G!!!

  • The impossible fight he talks about in this song is the fight against Satan, the great deceiver that has power over this world. The quest is the quest for truth, the only way to overcome the deceiving devil/mind. Go to TRUTHcontest(dot)com and read The Present to learn the truth.

  • @vividDC It's all because of the illuminati... I want to do something about this but I just can't.. Not by myself.

  • @1Explosivez1 The most important thing for you to do is to learn and spread the truth for yourself. Read The Present at TruthContest(dot)com and help spread it around.

  • @vividDC Do you know where I can get hat-grade tin foil. I've made about three tin foil hats already but none of them seem to be able to keep the aliens from going inside my mind. You seem to know a lot about that kind of stuff.

  • @vividDC thats your truth

  • dancing to this in ballet this year<3

  • four dislikes are from the windmills he fights

  • Quijote is certainly interesting. A work of literary genius.

  • I have tears in my eyes.

  • When I was young, my father purchased the vinyl in a flea market. Upon hearing "Impossible Dream," I vowed to never take up a task about which I did not feel wholly devoted (my father beamed, my mother smiled, my brother asked if I meant brushing my teeth). My father & I would perform for my mother & brother, singing with theatrical & grand gestures, and I've not heard this since. My parents have now been divorced for several years & I don't see my brother often. At 24, this song makes me weep.

  • @InLoveAndLiterary It is so easy to weep for the perfect song..if it has a great story...I am 55 years old and have worked in the theatre since I was 15...; Hell..I met my wife (still a gorgeous little singer/actress) on the stage...anyway..It's all in how the story meets the emotional intent of the writer.

  • This is my alma mater

  • Isn't this the version by Brian Stokes?

  • Wow, Very well done. It is very close to Richard Kiley's version

  • Ummm, it's pretty simple, three of my late father's most precious possessions were:

(1 & 2) hand carved figurines of Don Quixote and the glorious Sancho Panza.

    (3) A Dali etching of them.

    (4 & 5) My brother and I.

I feel so very lucky to be in that company.

  • This song and these lyrics never fail to give me goosebumps!!

  • Don Quixote: Nutty as Peanut M&M's, but embraced the ideals of Knighthood.

  • ...and the world..will be better for this...(goosebumps)

  • he hits this final note perfectly, most singers bail out by going lower.

  • that's a similar chord finale for Sunday in the Park with George

  • Ron Raines is the Gold standard for this song.

  • @pjgumby You mean live in a society that values PEOPLE over property, that believes workers DESERVE a fair share of the fruits of their labor, that believes it is the DUTY of the better off and the stronger to care for the less fortunate and the weak. But of course, like most mean spirited property mad greedy teabagger fools, you think you did it all yourself, and nobody anywhere at any time ever helped you. That any request to contribute to the greater good, without profit to you, is evil.

  • @pjgumby In other words, you are one sorry individual, and, if I could leave a country that is run by sorry pathetic pinched and hardhearted cowardly bastards like you, I would. Unfortunately, your love of borders and police and armies, designed to protect your property, prevent that, so I'm stuck here.

  • @pjgumby Some might argue that citizens in a socialist nation are more free than we in America. I ask you: is someone slaving at minimum wage to pay their mother's medical bills free?

  • @pjgumby, 50 years old, and you still think like that same short-sighted, jingoistic 5-year-old. That's pathetic, and it's even sadder that you're so proud of being ignorant. Why the fuck spew your sad little thoughts on a musical theatre clip, though?

  • @emylye627 I can spew all I want because it's called freedom, you don't have to agree with me, that's your freedom. Guess what in a free country that's supposed to be free you are going to hear a whole lot of things that are not to your liking, If I got my freedom, and you got yours, let's just deal with the fact that not everyohe in the world is going to be enthralled with us on either side of the fence. Such it up babes, it's called FREEDOM!

  • @pjgumby, you're right about that freedom. I still think it's sad when a song's comment section turns into a maelstrom of off-topic ranting, but that's the internet, for better or worse.

  • ddrose06 , I'm not talking about some long lost yesteryear, I'm talking about here and now. I'm not saying that the road to freedom has been easy for anyone, and I don't care who or what you are. Freedom has always been had to be fought for. That is a fact of Life. And freedom for all, is a much larger fight. GO FiGURE

  • Oh beautiful for spacious skies for amber wave of grain; for purple mountains majesty above the fruited plain. America, America, God shed his grace on thee; and crowned thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea. (we learned this in the 3rd grade.) Believe in it more now than ever.

  • All the contrary thoughts that anyone has toward freedom you can spew them forward because we still have freedom still in this country. I may not agree with what you say, but by God, you still enjoy the freedom to say them. That is a right that will be defended, and should be defended unto death! God Bless America!!!

  • In the long run I am glad that the "White Man" came to the Americas. Guess what, I like computers, television, cable, good medical care, carpets, the fact that I can turn on a tap and get water on a whim, got heating, which believe me is a god send in Anchorage, Alaska. Do I want to live like my ancestors? ThA BIG no. Sorry, but I would have no joy in wearing a loin cloth trying to spear a moose that's supposed to be my dinner. If you like that, then OK that's for you. That's called FREEDOM!!!!

  • I want to finish my thought. I am an American Indian, and I am proud as hell to fly the colors of our flag. I suggest that if America is not to your liking perhaps you would be more happier in Cuba, or China, or anywhere else that makes you pay homage to a hard party line. Just because I love freedom and am not a socialist , does that make me a racist? just because you don't agree with me on this point, does that make you a racist against American Indians? How absurd would that be?

  • I am sure that no country was ever founded totally with out it's stresses. I am proud that my grandfather and his generation defeated Hitler and liberated the concentration camps. I was going to school in the early 60's during desegregation and I remember that none of us kids had a problem with it, only a hand full of parents and teachers. Us kids got along with it fine, I am proud that America has always had a sense of fair play, and are the first ones to help in any disaster.I am an American.

  • @pjgumby OK. That's lovely rhetoric. Just fucking lovely. It's plain you won't address me directly. I wasn't going to bother with you until I saw this "fair play" delusion you're operating under. I can't leave that one alone.

Let's talk treaties, your wonderful white-men, with the great sense of fair play, made with your grandfather's, grandfather. How many were made? It doesn't matter. They were ALL broken. Your res must have a casino, for you to be this delusional. BTW I'm native, too.

  • Is that Ringo on drums?

  • I've always loved this song. A true portrait of the human spirit, and especially the American spirit!!!!!

  • @pjgumby Well, in all fairness, Quixote is a Spanish spirit written by a Spanish author... although an American wrote the lyrics for this, but the spirit is Quixote's all the way.

  • @pjgumby OH, the american spirit; "ESPECIALLY" the american spirit. I don't recall any mention of war crimes, lynchings, slavery, gay evangelists that demonize gays, racism, waging total war on native american men womwn and children, your military industrial complex, your dumbed down educational system, guns, or corruption in this beautiful song. So, how could it remind you especially of the american spirit? How about telling me 1 positive thing that america is #1 in the world, at.

  • @ddrose06

I don't understand why so many people make hate comments about this unique country. The only thing I can imagine is: 1. You're jealous?

    2. You really have no idea what we're about because your experience or upbringing is different. Either way, I can't hate you, but I pity you. Sadly, there are Americans who themselves have suffered this brainwashing and hate this amazing place.

  • @KSCrosby I just watched Michael Moore's movie about CAPITALISM "A love story" and I am so jealous of americans. What are americans about?

  • we're singing this in my choir. Ours will never sound as stunning as the original, though.

  • this is Spain my friends... xD come and visit it...

  • Never can sing this one without choking up. Best solo ever.

  • I saw the Man of La Mancha on the weekend, done by an amateur Light Opera Company all in their spare time. Needless to say I think they perfected it, such a wonderful stage production. This musical number would have to be the absolute highlight of the play.

  • This is our graduation song.. :)

  • Ron Raines...isnt that the mean ass Spaulding guy from Guiding Light?

  • Saw the off Broadway production 2 years ago and I still play the sound track almost on a weekly bases n he car. Great Musical!

  • this is one in the list of songs that really means something to me. we did this musical last year at my school, and not only did i fall in love with the musical and this song, but i got to see my brother do the best performance of Don Quixote that in my mind, i will ever see, but i'll never tell him that (we don't get on the best). even people that knew him didn't realize it was him on the stage because he was so believable.

the song brings tears to my eyes every time.

  • This has been my theme song...never give up!

  • Stunning, absolutely stunning music!

  • Mad? No. Touched by the Hand of God.........

  • This is a beautiful song, from a marvelous production. It never fails to bring tears to my eyes to hear this piece...

  • I like this music ... so Geil

  • I love this song!

  • I love the phrase

"...to be willing to march into hell for a heavingly cause". Totally owns everything.

  • @Zhuyeto -- yeah, but this is as far into hell as I go.

  • @Zhuyeto I know, it's so beautiful and meaningful, it's hard not to be inspired.

  • definitly

  • @Zhuyeto That's how I've always felt, it packs so much power into a single line. And the way the tone sort of changes there just drives it home. It's really well done in the Honda advert that used the Andy Williams version.

  • One of the greatest heroes of all literature. And if you say 'But he was not really sane, he didn't do anything', read the book. Don Quixote, mildly insane as he was, did actually have a few legitimate adventures, all of which he faced with just as much stolid courage as anything else, never wavering. Don Quixote WOULD march into hell for a heavenly cause, mildly deranged though he was. Thus, he is one of my favorite heroes.

  • This song always lifts me up. Still, I've never felt worse in my life.

  • I know what you mean.

  • This song is so meaningful. I speaks of selfless heroism. This is Ninoy Aquino's favourite song. Phil Democratic hero. Thank you for sharing us this wonderful song. It really goes straight to the heart. I have listed to it many times and it still has the same patriotic effect.

  • ...This is my new theme song.

  • @yarrun lol

  • The best version.... love it!

  • Words to live by :)

  • you cant raise your hand on the internet

  • @netcyrus -- o/

    I raised my hands.

  • Actually I thought the movie was pretty good. It could have been better but is still worth watching.

Just turn on the Closed Captioned... It will help.

  • oh how right are these words!

  • I saw Richard Kiley sing this on Broadway..wow!!!!!

  • Out of this world! *****THANK YOU!

  • My mother took me to see this. I was 8. I have NEVER

forgotten it and I bless my mum to this day that she

saw to it that I witnessed one of the most perfect tremendous

performances of hope and courage and grace and voice

    ever presented.

  • @PBBDD that was beautiful!

  • @PBBDD same friend

  • sinz52, I so envy you, I've heard cast recordings with Richard Kiley and can just imagine what a magical experience it must have been to see him play that role.

  • that could still be The Quest

  • don quixote is the sain peter's basilica of literature....

  • This is so great.

  • Isn't this Richard Kiley's version?

  • No, This Ron Raines

  • When I was a kid, I got to see Man of La Mancha on Broadway with my family. The original cast, starring the wonderful Richard Kiley. That was a treat I will always remember.

  • AWESOME! I recognize the album cover also. Memorabilia from childhood- my parents always listened to musicals on good-'ol L.P.s and turntables with scratches and all. It is great to hear music, now without the scratches!!!

    Thanks YouTube for posting!

  • This is one of those songs that sends shivers up my spine.

  • this was sung at our graduation. I love this song.

  • Comment removed

  • Ed Ames is Impresionant in this song.

  • I want to see the musical again so badly

  • Yes this is the best version on YouTube, but Roger Whittaker's version is my quest but I have not yet found it. Tis I think his is the best!

  • So beautiful.

  • Ron Raines Rocks! I love him!

  • Richard Kiley is amazing. I love him. He's the original Don Quixote. Or maybe its Ron Raines. Can't tell. They sound alike. But my favorite ones are. Richard Kiley, and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

  • it's raines

  • Ron Raines is great!

  • Amazing quality and what can I say about the singing ...Outstanding.
