The only thing more scary while eating fugu is not being able to speak Japanese when you order it. It's actually quite flavourless and there are certainly better fish out there. Still, it makes for bragging rights when you get home!

Poisonous berries or plants are poison ALL over most likely and you wouldn't want to eat it but the fugu fish's meat can still be eaten as only a small part of the fish can kill you

there is really nothing to fear about, death from a professionally trained chef in a restaurant is almost 0% for the last 20 years (it takes 7 years of training by the government in japan to be a fugu chef).

the deaths you read about are from people who catch and prepare it and eat it themselves because the poison will not disappear with heat.

p.s. i have had it and it was disappointed because the fish is tough and has a very rubbery texture

I was watching Les Stroud eat pufferfish of some sort on his new show Beyond Survival. It was on The Sea Gypsies Of Malaysia episode. They shot a puffer fish with a speargun yes thats right i said shot as in shikabobbed it, then a lady just hacked it up with a machete and made it into soup. Are ther non poisanous species or can you cook out pufferfish toxin? Why can't i find a video or instructions on how pufferfish is prepared?

There are non-poisonous ones, but they're produced by controlling the fish's diet. I'm not sure about "natural" non-poisonous blowfishes. Though I would say you're just playing Russian Roulette if you eat a Takifugu (the species of blowfish served as fugu) that got speared, puncturing the liver or the ovaries I would think would contaminate all the meat. As far as I know you can't cook out the poison either.
