@15trieslater Dylan's version is a cover from Fear itstelf, the orignal song has been written by Josh White, but anyone version is similar except the lyrics.
zepplin....what can I say?....what a tallent...what a experience...4 blokes from england playing from the heart...and sharing that tallent to the world...wow...thanks fellas that was very nice of you...you helped growing up in the 70's berable and made it fun...man that was awsome
I spent 1975 in Thailand (Air Force) & bought the most outrageous stereo outfit! Kenwood speakers encased in hardwood with 15 inch woofers! Top of the line amp, turntable, double cassette, reverb, etc. Very cheap! Stick those speakers outside the dorm room, runnin the cable thru the window, fire up the reverb; crank the volume & you gotcha Led Zeppelin concert!!
In appreciation to Led Zeppelin for all the great music they gave us, ALL LZ fans should go out and buy ALL 9 CDs for Xmas! If you already have them, give them away as gifts!!
To all you sacrilegious, blasphemers, of the almighty "LED ZEPPELIN" I want 20 hail zeppelin's from you! but seriously "IN MY TIME of DYING" is one of the best ever of any slide guitar tunes recorded! My favorite is definitely "IV" (Valhalla is coming)
Led Zeppelin were coming back from Heaven after giving God his monthly perfromance review when they were confronted by a beast resembling Barbara Streisand. They dispatched the creature with a slice of cake and a toothbrush. They then rendezvoused with Edward Khil, Paul Bunyan, Aragon, Chuck Testa, Gaston and R.E.M and proceeded to decimate an army of emo vampires while piloting an X - Wing saving dozens of Kenyan orphans. The band eventually returned home and wrote this song.
Love Zep. But Physical Graffiti is mostly shite. Page is lost in a foggy, smack dream. Sad but true. Still one of the best bands of all-time mind. You know it's true.
@MrWalkerds No offence intended friend. I love Zep, I worship Page. The fact that he wrote, played and produced Zep's catalogue places him at the top of guitarists in my view. But if you know the history, by this stage hard living and touring were catching up with the guys and this album, for me, reflects that. It lacks the zip of the others although it has it's moments. Zep are one of the few bands I loved as a kid and still love now, always will, not this album tho. Peace and love
This might just be my all time favorite LZ tune. It remains an audio orgasm for me. The slow start..building...building.. and building...till the band kicks it in hard. At 3:50. Then it is on. Pages guitar takes me to a place I love and find so hard to define.. Not many songs take me to the place this one does. As I said....an audio orgasm. At 5:38 and onward to 7:08. Oh my...is that kicking it or what?
they think this was the beginning of metal coz there to young to remember the differnce between easy liestening , rock, and hard rock. lol if your under 40 you think elvis is the king of rock. but this is real hard rock. youth see grand ma so old lol how sad they dont thing of her at a concert in 69 smoking a joint lol
i really dont understand why peopple keep saying Led Zeppelin was one of the first heavy metal bands, when the group always stated that they had nothing to do with it, that they where hard rock... plus i have never heard anything close to metal in their songs. Maybe some of the heavy metal bands where very influenced by them and developed part of their sound from them but that is very different than stating that Led Zeppelin played heavy metal
@lastrevolv Exactly, like think about it. Compared to today's music, this isn't metal. But back then, this was the hardest shit out there ya know? But now that we have all sorts of genres, we can examine this more closely and say that they had many different sounds. The did folk, blues, hard rock, etc. And yes, I would imagine many of the heavy rock groups today were heavily influenced by the heaviness that Zeppelin put out there in songs like this one especially.
@sensationaldenny I think so. They covered a lot of songs and made them into something completely different. I wouldn't even call it stealing either, I mean c'mon, this is a masterpiece is it not?!
as much as i love bob dylan, zeppelin destroyed his version. both are good, but im more of a heavy guitar kinda person. on another note, very easy song to play (well, the beginning)
@manofthecloth613 Bonzo's 'Heavy Hand' fukin' ROCKED this song! Ever heard it on a GOOD stereo? It'll floor you! Use to put this on when I was in Southern IL @ midnite with a 6 AM appt in Minneapolis. Kept me awake many a long night in my Extended Hood Peterbilt...
now this is blue's at its most integral. i love zeppelin but this album in particular just shows jimmy's prowess in open tuning and this being one of his best demonstrations a couple of other notable tunes... ten years gone, down by the seaside, and the bron-y aur stomp this is the band which knew no limits when it came to the blues thank you very much jimmy, jon ,robert& john bonham

clapton and page were so "inspired" by mississippi delta slide & flat-top players.
this is 1 of the few LZ song that i must say -- as a drummer -- that Bonham was a little too 'heavy handed',
but... i s'ppose he couldn't do otherwise.
[personally] never cared much for Plant,
but Page is still the consumate professional.
