  • Your video most certainly helped me. I bought a table loom a few days ago and it mentioned pick up sticks but didn't really explain in a way that I understood. Thanks to your nice video, it makes sense to me now. Thank you for posting.

  • @srymer36 Thanks for watching, rating and commenting! :D Be sure to stop by my site as I have resources for warping and stuff that you may find useful for your table loom. Happy Weaving!

  • @rigidheddleweaving You are more than welcome. I'm going to visit your web site now. It sounds like you've got resources on there that will be of great interest. Thanks again for the nice video :) .

  • @srymer36 I want to by this type of loom, could you please let me know the reasonable cost of this loom. I am a weaver in Benaras India.

  • very good video.... thanks

  • I am wanting to start weaving and am interested in a R/H loom. However, I dont wear scarves or need placemats. At the very least I would like to weave blankets and eventually would like to weave clothing, sheets, and towels. Should I save up for a table loom instead? I'm sure I'll weave simple things like scarves at first, but would like to eventually weave things that I will use and that will save me money instead of buying them.

  • @loomofmetals I'll tell you right now that you won't save money by weaving your own fabric. Thread is expensive and then there is the time it takes.

The satisfaction comes in knowing that you conceived and created whatever you produce.

I would recommend getting a floor loom.

  • @rigidheddleweaving Thanks! And thanks for all the great videos! I'm going to stick to a R/H loom and maybe invest in a floor loom in the future when I have more room. Since I posted my comment I've watched a lot more videos and now have a better idea about what I can and can't do with the different looms. Even if I don't save money, I'll still enjoy practicing a very old craft and being more environmentally and socially responsible. I'll be sure to buy my books from your amazon store!

  • hello do you have any videos you made on weaving with 2 rigid heddles i dont understand how to warp 2 heddles can you make a video on stringing and using 2 R/H please

  • @707centavo Yes, a video for this exists. You can find it at the main web page at Articles > Warping > Double Heddles

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. I'd seen references to using pickup sticks but wasn't clear on the concept until now. I'll definitely visit your site!

  • @asherbalfour Thanks!!! Be sure to also join us on Facebook :D

  • I was wondering what dpi u were using? I am extremely new to weaving and I want to learn all of this but we have a tight budget for any sort of book. I really want to learn how to use the pick up stick and I am also wanting to learn more advanced forms of tapestry. If you have any helping points, please share!

  • I hear you and feel your pain. I can't weave right now, my craft budget has been depleted. I was using a 10 dpi heddle. Please visit my web page and also please join me on Facebook, really super bunch of ppl there. I have more videos on pick up stick at my video section AND there's addictional patterns to try if you view the "more info" on this video. :) Happy Weaving!!!

  • Oh yes, before I forget...other fab resources is weavezine and pattyannesplace. You can find links to these on my site or by googling it and you can check out, on my channel here, what weavers I am subscribed to and check them out too.

  • oh I have been really wanting to learn how to do this. I have cotton for wash cloths and this will make good practice!

    thx

  • Thanks! Make sure to check out the "More Info" about this video as there's another pattern listed and more on the web page. :)

  • Just wondering if you've seen the book "Textures & Patterns for the Rigid Heddle Loom" by Betty Linn Davenport?

It has pretty good instructions on how to use 1 & 2 pattern sticks to create different weave patterns. I think I got mine thru Amazon for approx $30 but well worth it.

  • Yes, I have this book and I have it highly recommended in the merchantile on my site. I got mine for about $24.00 and signed by the author.

  • I have just tried this and really love the pattern, but found that the edges were really bad. Did I do it wrong?

  • I would have to see the results of your weaving to know. Mine turned out nice, I made a shoulder bag out of it, you can see the bag at my web site...and you can see in the video that my selvedges are nice and even....so maybe..hard to know without seeing it. :/

  • I think it may have been the number of warps...Every 3rd or 4th weft would leave 4 warps threads without catching them... But I have not given up... I love this and am totally awestruck with your work... ;o)

  • Thank you so much! Try going under/over those last threads. That's what I do when it comes out odd like that. I'm doing a plain weave lap blanket right now with variegated yarn but once I get done with that I'll be posting another rigid heddle and pick up stick pattern. I have discovered, however, that I really prefer string heddles! You can do so much more with them. I like the simpliticy of a single rigid heddle and stick but wow, the stuff you can do with string heddles is amazing!

  • I am mezmorized! I love the way you did it, like having a second heddle (?) but not. Beautiful. I added to my favorite to refer to. thank you so much trhe best video on weaving yet. This will make my first project look more experienced.

  • Hey thanks! You might also like to subscribe here and or at facebook or at my site RSS feeds. If you put the stick under different slot threads you get different patterns. :) If I can get away from online gaming long enough I want to start another project with the thread that arrived last week. I want to do more patterns! :)

  • Hey thanks! I'll be concentrating on doing more videos of weaving patterns as soon as I get done with the plarn totes that I have in the works. I hope to get more videos done about pattern weaving in October.

  • really love this one - the shed views are great, slow enough to actually follow and the text descriptions are simple and put the action in context. do more patterms please!

  • @lesleeroberts

In case you missed it I posted another "pattern" video so check my channel. :) This time it's Stick Forward/Heddle Up, Stick Neutral/Heddle Down, repeat and do 4 picks of plain weave.
