Why do ppl say Suspiria is one of the scariest movies of all time?? Yes It is shot beautifully and it is very colorful but it lacks reality, it is not believable! I want a horror movie that will finally shake me to my core and I have yet to find that! I have an extensive collection and yes Suspiria is one of them < of Horror movies on my shelves! But I ache for the day that one will really fuck me up!!! If u have any suggestions please let me know!!!
Awesome!!! I love this review. I discovered suspiria on a countdown thing and was entranced by it's visuals and hallucinatory feel of all of it. I made a music video tribute of Suspiria too.
Suspiria is the absolute BEST giallo movie ever made. The atmosphere, the use of colors, the lightning and shadows and the freaky gore turn this into a perfect work of art.
Greetings. I have been checking out some of your reviews and I have to say that I absolutely love them! =
I just have to know...in your intro section for this video you have some clips of a woman being attacked in a theatre. It looks very familiar but I can't remember the movie...can you help me out?
What's hilarious is that the tagline "The only thing scarier than the last 12 minutes of this film are the first 92" is wrong... the movie only ran 98 minutes... and unless my math skills are less than a 3 year old level(which im 20... that would be bad) the tagline promotes a 104 running time... I wanna see the extra 6 minutes damnit... But excellent film, one of, if not my favorite movies of all time. Good job Argento
Frankly, I'm more of a "The Beyond" guy. That's right; I said it. I vastly prefer Fulci's "masterpiece" to Argento's crowning achievement. Don't get me wrong; Suspiria is clearly a work of art in terms of cinematography and atmosphere but it just doesn't have enough actually happening to justify me sitting down and viewing it from start to finish.
I'd much rather re-visit this movie's follow-up Inferno even if it went way too far into batshit insane territory.
@WardenGordon Of course, when I call the Beyond a masterpiece, that's with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Speaking of which, when is a review of The Beyond or City Of The Living Dead coming, Rev? As uneven and sometimes stupid as The Beyond is (basements in New Orleans; what the fuck, Lucio? Although that one could even be chalked up to the movie taking place in a bizarre dream)....There's simply too much wacky weird shit going down not to enjoy; even with laughable gore effects used.
@WardenGordon - I prefer Fulci to Argento, but City of the Living Dead is my beloved Fulci pick. Love The Beyond too though. In fact I'm a die-hard Fulci freak! The only reason I haven't reviewed any Fulci movies on YouTube is because I can't cram in all my thoughts on his films in 10 minutes. I've reviewed plenty in written form at my website though.
Never cared for Inferno that much, I enjoy Suspiria much more.
@FreddiePipes That does it. I'm going to have to watch City Of The Living Dead again this weekend. I've owned the damned thing for a year and a half but only viewed it once. I really haven't been avoiding watching it again as much as I've been catching up on other older and newer shit. Plus when I decide to sit down and watch a classic I usually like to get shitfaced beforehand and The Beyond/Phantasm 2/From Beyond are a tough line-up to crack.
@WardenGordon I'll check back in after watching it again but from what I remember the things that put The Beyond over City Of The Living Dead (personally) was The Beyond's great score and The Beyond ending with the two protagonists scrambling off into the surrealist wasteland as compared to COTLD's abrupt non-ending.
Also while COTLD had the great opening in the cemetery it really does wait until the psychic chick is discovered buried alive (half-hour mark) for business to pick up.
Yes you're absolutely right on this one. One of the greatest horror movies ever and there hasn't been more cinematographically beautiful horror movie since Suspiria.
Great review Rev. Your knowledge never fails to Impress me. Goblin had so great horror scores. And I feel Argento's cut of Dawn Of The Dead is underrated.

Seeing this makes me wonder wth happened to Argento in later years.
While his MOH segments were good, Mother of Tears(aside from the opening death scene) and Giallo were awful.

@andoc yes i agree, its not a giallo though
vaultkeeper2 4 months ago
@vaultkeeper2 I guess you're right and it's more of a supernatural horror movie. I personally like to consider it a giallo film, though.

Nice review, this is my second favorite horror film. But you forgot to mention Inferno; the first sequel.

I did see this. I could not figure out what the big deal was. I felt let down because I kept hearing how scary this was.
4thtroika 2 years ago
Scary, no--not for adults anyways, but I think it's an incredible flick...if you're into artsy-fartsy Euro stuff...like me.
FreddiePipes 2 years ago
I do give it a try, with mixed results. A while back, I got Black Sunday from Netflix and fell asleep every single time I tried to watch it.

Mario Bava is a mixed bag. I dig his films from the 70's more than the ones from the 60's.
