The battle system style doesn't make the game.Here's a thought,and I think it's a cool idea,that hey on this FF game they make the battle system like grandia 2,hence FF13,and the next is like FF12's system,and the next is old school turn based,I mean it's a good idea to show that they can do more than just slow ass turn based.Personally I loved the game,and I love to level up so,it's challenging,good I'll level up more,and buy stuff,and I thought the gambit's work fine.
@hotwhire I'm just saying I really liked the MMO style,and I can use the Gambit's fine,but I also like turn based ones,FFVII's my favorite,and FFXII's my second,and FFX,is not very high on my list at all, the Limit's sucked,they barely have any mini games,it had only 8 summon's.Other than the graphic's I find that game very overrated.Plus they only had one summoner,that's horribly weak to me.And the story is a Return of the Jedi Rip off.

Have you ever played Tactics? It came around the same time as VII, & I think it's right up there with VII & X. Really, XII didn't take any "new step." Point me to anything in XII, & I'll point out where it's been done somewhere else in the series.
I disagree that you can't play an MMO as an offline game. The 1st 4 .hack games are awesome. Granted, it wasn't enough of a story for 4 games, but still. I also disagree about the Gambits, but you've already said you were exaggerating.

What makes the final fantasy series final fantasy? Changes. For every next part in the series, they try to change the game in different ways. The greatest changes has of course been with FFVII (3D), FFXI (online) and FFXII. Now with FFXII, I personally like it. But there is one thing. They have looked at what the gamers today seem to think about RPGs in general, and tried to adapt to it. In other words, it can be sen as a sellout. To me, the system works, and there are plenty of challenges in it
First resident evil 4 changed more then final fantasy 12 did. and final fantasy is square's flagship game so it has to be modern, final fantasy 12 is the overhule the seires needed. The charters are great so sorry you don't like them

I happen to get very outraged with all this FFXII hate that it never ceases to amaze me. I am so damn angry. Maybe it's just me. People probably hate me for some random shit that I really like this game.
FFXII I believe :P Nah, just kidding, I probably didnt use the gambits properly, and I just found it difficult to manage the characters effectively at such a fast pace. I guess I just miss the old FF battle system and this game was too much of a departure and made things a lot more complicated than they needed to be. It was far from a shit game, I just personally didnt like it, you must agree it's always funnier to go over the top for a critique though ha ha :)
i just love the game because it had the best art direction by far!!!!!!!!!!!

i got 12 for christmas 2 or 3 years ago, played it once for about... 2 weeks, got stuck on a boss and haven't played it since lol
