  • But this piece doesn't actually show any influence of JS Bach on Chopin. You are welcome to try and point to which technique or piece of Bach it resembles but I don't think you will get far ...

Chopin's mastery and genius didn't rely on anyone's influence, it is possible to be a great composer while being as different as possible from Bach!

  • I suggest that you read page 28 of Chopin Playing by James Methuen-Campbell or any other authoritative book about Chopin and his music that discusses Bachs influence upon the composer.

  • @stringph He never said this piece specifically shows any influence of Bach, but the Nocturnes were obviously inspired by John Field's own Nocturnes. It is a misperception that Chopin was an island unto himself. He was demonstrably influenced by a number of composers, whether it was Bach in the preludes or Hummel in the concertos. I'm sure Chopin sensed Polish zal in Mozart's A minor rondo as well. The list can go on with Beethoven, von Weber, and Moscheles, among others.

  • ... thankyou for this ...
