Dilla sampled this from Towa Tei, its not two different renditions. This is also more House/Bossa Nova, not hip hop.

You can't really compare a sample to the original, they're just different in nature.

When we think of it, its easy to make the connection: Towa Tei was in Deee-lite, their bigest song was 'Groove Is in The Heart' - Q-TIP featured on this, Tip introduced the industry into Dilla.
