Google "euphoria engine" this tech is like over 10 years old and is allready in a bunch of games. the one you can tell that its really well implemented in is GTA IV.
@thelasthallow depends on the console, I guess PS3 would run it at 60fps, but as far as I know X360 runs games at 30. If you tried GTA4 and SW: The Force Unleashed on the PC you will know how horrible the games will run =(
@Hergonan Actually GTA IV runs Great on my PC so i dont know what people complain about. i could care less about SW the force unreashed. all games on all consoles run at 60Fps (atleast the ones i was actually interested in) Hell even games on the PSP run at 60fps.
naturally it's not new but the mathematics behind the movement control are getting more accurate as you saw in the video. I'm sure that if you have played various video games and felt the way some characters move you will see how this demonstration is a good improvement compared to those games.
Wow, these are good. One of the most challenging things about animated walking is to try not to have the feet slide on the ground. This may sound like something easy, but is actually really difficult.
Euphoria and Endorphin... this is no news. This technology has existed for a very long time already. I have been playing around with this software for years.
Check out one of my videos - dynamic motion synthesis.
Kind of similar to Endorphine/Euphoria technology used in GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption and The Force Unleashed. Check it out if you find this interesting. Virtual nervoussystem and so on, quite cool. searth "Euphoria Tech (GTA IV Engine)" on YT.
Cant wait to see more of these technologies in movies and games.
They say "teaching robots to walk" right as they show the animated robots whose feet pass through one another. Protip: Don't use THAT one for the robots.
@MagicAccent It isn't really like euphoria though. In games like Red Dead och Gta 4, the walking is still only animation, whereas here it's fully dynamic.
I hate that this video talks as if people haven't been animating bipedal walks for over a century by hand! It's really not that complex. And it goes without saying that this only has application in simulation tech including some video games.
@MercifulMing its difficult to make it appear natural and accurate, this is the new and best method. he implies this in the video, you should spend more time paying attention and less time thinking of how its wrong
This video refers to simulated walking using computers, not drawing. Drawing figures who walk is not at all the same thing, drawing them requires no knowledge of the inner mechanics of a body.
They can make characters walk in game without motion capture but it doesn't look so very realistic, all Motion Capture does is to make all human motions look realistic and make cut-scene more movie like
Yes, but does Euphoria Engine use pure physics? Do the characters actually have to stay balanced in order to not fall? I've never heard or seen any one make such a statement about Euphoria Engine. This engine looks different, the walking isn't as realistic as Euphoria Engine either, but that can be tuned.
@CognosSquare You are wrong. Or rather, I should say - Sure, maybe some films will be made using vacuous, soulless, heartless, craftless automatic animation like this... but I can guarantee you I won't be making films that way, and I won't be watching films made that way.
@TheReasonWhyGuy No - It's a horrendous idea. Perhaps you want your films to be completely lacking *any* kind of human craftsmanship whatsoever. I happen to be a film maker and animator and actually care about how films get made, and ensuring they are done with artistry. Automatic Animation is a disturbing and horrific idea.
Calling something mundane "disturbing" is often a side effect of being too involved in a narrow field of interest.
Looking at this a little more "objectively"... when it comes down to movie production, you wouldn't use this on the character at the center of attention anyway. You'd likely use it on crowds, or extra's walking in the background.
HOWEVER, I'll say that this is likely more useful for games, that doesn't negate it's film making value.
I'm saying the dynamics of walking are much better captured through motion capture rather than tweaking a piece of software four million times and still not getting close.
True, but that is 1 mocap for every cycle. This will give variation to the cycle and it can adapt to diferent situation. And mocap cost about 200 bucks a second (recording time) and takes alot of time to clean, and mocap cant realy be applied to robots thou =)
BUT you are right, it think it might take alot of time to make a natural motion purely with software
@DeeJayBounce "tweaking a piece of software four million times and still not getting close."
This is the first generation of the software. As with all software, it will get better. No one said that motion capture has to be thrown out now, and you must replace it with this by next week.
@DeeJayBounce This is better in a few ways since motion capture isn't flexible. This can be used adapt to any situation real time. It's not a recording.
