  • i am afraid to say dublin has changed, those were the days when we had no money but made the most of it, fond memories

    irish hugo

ps, got the stars to play at the CIE hall benefit gig, they were great

  • i bought their record for $1 not having heard them before but because they were rough trade. looks like i chose well!

  • Happy memories, I used to chat to Stephen Ryan in Whelans. Remember asking him was Sacred Heart Hotel about the Sacre Couer Hotel in Salthill, Galway (it was). Had two of their vinyls stolen from my car back in '95.

  • These guys were just the best. Still have the albums! Woot!

  • a friend gave me this album, totally amazed that they were not not massive, what happened? Great songs......

  • "Sacred Heart Hotel". Anyone have it?

  • Great stuff. Got their Peel session featuring the Unfinshed Dreaming etc. on cassette, 4 beltin' tracks.

I went to manage a pub in the north east some years back and was a bit amazed to find that one of my staff was playing the 'Speak Slowly' album after we'd closed for the night.....

  • The 'Speak Slowly' album was a cracker, and is timeless. Brilliant lyrics and song structures. "When you don't love the one you're with, and the one you love is gone..You'd better smile, or he'll ask you "what's wrong?" Stars of Heaven were like AHouse - Ireland's tip top.

  • mcgonagles. i saw the band girls school opening for u2. does anyone remember dc nien?

an excellent dublin live band. i saw them in

ucd earlsfort terrace. they had a song called

"mutants" which aired on rte and seemed sort of strange at the time, to me at least, in

    its innovation.

  • Thanks a lot Finn - posted all the way from the Falklands, if your profile's right... Always remember John Peel repeatedly saying 'Whatever happened to the Stars of Heaven?'. Too late to tell him now though.. Gas to see 80s Dublin with all those bangers driving over O'Connell Bridge.

Dubliners now have flash cars and John Peel's no more - what the hell has happened to the world ??

  • please post their 'lights of tetuoan' video. anybody?

  • Great band, great song and video. Crying shame they never got signed by majors.

  • aah, ole Dublin....superb band...

  • This band were truly the Best Irish Band of the 1980s!!! Viva McGonigles!!!

  • This band were truly the Best Irish band of the 1980s!!! Viva McGongles!!

  • Thank you for this. Excellent stuf. That park with the statues on Dame street is gone now. Improved with a concrete block and fake Georgian facades.

  • i had forgotten about this. only saw it once, on mtv europe. stan looks freezing and very bemused! did i see him mime?
