  • 340 to 430 the best styx ever only created vocals suck

  • styx=what a band they were brilliant!!

  • used to listen to this over and over again..great album

  • Dennis was and is Styx!!!!

  • canada

  • I've only seen Styx in concert once and previous to that I wasn't a big fan of their music but after going to their concert in 1979 they left such a lasting impression on me that cold, winter night that I've been a Fan ever since!!!!

  • @Crazcompart TRUE!!! AGREEE!

  • AWESOME TRACK!!! AMERICA where are you going?

  • @MnzGmz - Fits nowadays...

  • sounds so much like "beyond the realms of death" by Judas Priest

  • suite madame blue is leaving us now.

  • this fits us, even now!

  • We were the beacon of "Freedom" and many looked to us to form their own countries. Listen to the song and note that we can still be that beacon but we are not living up to it. This was written and performed one year before our bicentennial and the lyrics point to a decay of our leadership as its veiwed from other countries. Dont be fooled by the information that the news and politicians tell us because inside of all of us is a patriot waiting to come out ad lead us as the song says. WAKE UP!!!

  • lead us away from the past!!

  • if we only could relate to this today!!! as a nation!!! politically as a world superpower!!

  • This song has a lot of meaning.. my husband played it for me before he quit drinking he said it reminded him of me.... i am so happy for his recovery :)

  • This song is endless!

  • Just noticed that the beginning kinda sounds like Babe I'm Gonna Leave You - Led Zeppelin

  • @devinsbrother

Okay, check out these songs (Guitar wise)

Flotsam and Jetsan - Doomsday for the deceiver

Overkill - The years of decay

  • @GanjaPharmzor The Flotsam and Jetsan song sound a lot like it, but I didn't hear a lot of similarity in the Overkill song.

  • @devinsbrother I don't know, to me the intro acoustic part is pretty similar, but that's just my opinion =P

  • canada

  • Excellant song the strength of america has shown through, In this song and through time and events that still occur.

  • Soooo awesome thanks for the great recording!

  • To be honest... I listened to Styx when I was a kid and then I realized they sucked.. but... I did always like this song. It's not bad.

  • @westcoast1965 how dare you say styx suck

  • canada

  • Oh wow, i use to listen to my brother play this tune on his guitar and would always want him to play it when my best friend would come around lol! How can anyone like that horrible death Metal shit that is out now? This is where it is! Because of my brother , i like all these bands... Styx, Pink Flloyd, Savatage, Black Sabbath, Dokken, Van Hallen!!!! ALL OF THEM! I'm proud to say it too.

  • @OJLuscious YESSSS finally someone who listens to Dokken lol

  • @RandyRhoadsFan82 you bet actually not even sure why i came here styx

  • FUCK STYX, HEIL BIEBER!!!!

  • @Metsladanstabouche You're joking right? I've got a buzz...and even then it's not funny.

  • I turned 30 this year...sat back and reflected, which to some isn't much time. Every Time I hear this song, I'm reminded of myself sitting in my small town bar at the age of 21, behaving foolishly, over-tipping, and playing this song on the jukebox 5 times in a row for 2 bucks. I might have been the fool air guitaring the solo, but I know i saw my fair share of "hardcore bikers" shedding tears to the beginning of this ballad.

  • rip off of babe im gonna leave you - led zeppelin

  • @jmizzel323 Listen to the full song lol

  • @jmizzel323 good one

  • No. And Yes. It is what is it Is

  • errg.... a Mcain advert, but still a cool tune!

  • Great song. Straight-ahead, no-nonsense, rock-and-roll from certainly one of the more innovative, original and versatile bands of the modern era. Songs like this never get old, they just get better because as you get older, you appreciate them more than you did when you were a teenager or younger and you realize just how good these songs are and why there are no more songs like it, or bands like them anymore.

  • @ncekinovich too right

  • @ncekinovich I totally agree .. it was an honor to have grown up to so many talented musicians

  • @joellejaskoski Yes it was. We could sit here and name them until the cows come home. Diversity and originality certainly ruled the day. Today it is country, rap or what substitutes for rock. Never again will there be a music era like the 80's.

  • headphones with eyes closed = a real 70s rock voyage

  • @undreadSP yes is a rock voyage

  • @undreadSP AMEN!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing these guys in '96 during the Return to Paradise tour....*sigh* Whatever happened to GOOD music. Rock on Styx!

  • this song has one awesome fukin lead

  • You know there's something wrong with the world when songs like this aren't considered "commercial" and not often played. So many other great songs treated the same way......

  • no better song

  • Blast it on vinyl! Nothing like it, Nothing can match it.

  • I long for the past because I wasn't alive when this song came out.

  • memorys of fellow drummer playing this on Guitar, RIP MicMac!

  • You tell 'em big guy!

  • I might consider just disliking this song just because of the annotation at the end

  • Can we take all rap stars, their bitches and ho's and shoot them in the head and butt??? Idiots are inacapable of producing any good music.

  • @humakhanlover You spoke the truth there, my friend. I've been saying this for over 15+ years now, and it's great to see someone else think along the same lines as I do.

  • @timepoet77 - Thanks man. By the way I just saw Dennis DeYoung and his band for the first time, last Friday. Everything that has been said about this guy is true. Apart from being a great singer with a great new band, he also plays the keyboard like a master and is a great comedian on-stage!!! His antics and his jokes are an additional treat in his concert!

  • Wicked Games - The Weeknd

  • @OOx98pd wtf? lol how does this song remind u of her

  • Styx at their best....love singin this song at karaoke...one of the best ever!!!

  • Unbelievably beautiful and accurate song. Stunning.

  • America FUCK YEA!

  • not much of a tribute VIDEO, videos means frames per/ sec

    ahh great song

  • Makes me want to become American! Not really.....but great song Styx!

  • HAHA. McCain is long gone

  • I saw the Styx in 1996 when i was visiting Hades to see if i was interested in making it my home....wasn't! The water was dingy and global warming was a happening!!

  • @woojoke hmm, hades and styx.. lol

  • Watched these guys in 1981 at the Metro Center in Halifax, great concert, great friends and great wine and some great herbs...was a great night...

  • hell ya

  • I seen it live!

  • im with you jollypandalimports.

  • 2 of the most underrated rock anthems of all time are this song and Sweet Child in Time by Deep Purple - if you agree give me a Stone Cold "hell ya" !

  • I saw Styx in 2011 @ Spyglass Ridge winery in Sunbury PA ! They are well and doing fine my friends !!!!!

  • One of the best guitar sounds...... Ever.

  • To involve good rock-n-roll like this, with the greedy-ass nut-jobs on Capital Hill(both sides of the isle), is ludicrous to say the least.

  • John Curelewski was still in the bad at this time..Tommy Shaw joined in time for CRYSTAL BALL

  • @Vatch1966 Ya JC was on this album, but Tommy joined for the Equinox tour when JC quit.

  • @Vatch1966 Tommy Shaw joined for The Grand Illusion album.

JC was an amazing person, guitar teacher, friend and mentor.

    RIP JC

    T

  • @xtranet1 Seriously...Tommy joined for Crystall Ball...He even wrote the song title.

  • I'm a Styx fan. But please don't pollute this with vote McCain-stuff. F-U for applying those Stalinist tactics of turning arts into politics! But then again, he lost didn’t he? Thank god that shit didn't work.

  • There is no better band to sample in my music than Styx, whenever i run out of ideas i just listen to them, amazing artists!

  • Worthy of national anthem status.

  • @bleedinblues1 Hell yes................

  • @bleedinblues1 dont you know it these are musicians justin b sings what the record companies give him he couldn't write any music on his own i'll be in the second row to see styx and blue oyster cult this saturday november 5 at viking hall in Bristol Tenn I wouldn't be caught dead near a Bieber show STYX kicks his punk ass

  • @MultiMetalgod Won't ever be another decade like the 70's for rock-n-roll, but that's fine with me. It makes tunes like this one all the more special. Bands had their own unique thing. No cookie-cutters back then. Have fun at Bristol.

  • They should sing this at Mitt Romney's 2012 inaguration!

  • @BarefootArizona

They're singing it today in Georgia after the Troy Davis pre-meditated state sanctioned killing.

  • @MrBluesrules What are you trying to say? Ok, my comment was silly, but what are you trying to say with that comment?

What does Troy Davis have to do with Mitt Romney, America, STYX, this song, madams, or anything?

  • @BarefootArizona

Nothing to do with Mr. Romney, just having conversation. You know, once long ago other countries looked to America as a great country doing good things. I don't know so much about that now. They're gonna kill another Black man in Alabama today. We've become a lynch mob. I think I just hurt. Sorry to bother you.

  • @MrBluesrules White people are better to black people than black people are to black people

  • @BarefootArizona Oh god please NO!

  • @wakaw07 My son, this is God, and I say HELL YES. Have a good one ; )

  • The 18 ppl that dislike this song, u clearly have MAJOR issues cuz how can u not like this song or this great band. Styx is 1 of the greatest bands of all times. U little ass justin bieber fans will never have as many hits as this band does. Hell, this band has more hits on 1 album then he will his entire life. STYZ ROCKS :)

  • @shadykb OK!

Now, why does people hates Justin Beiber so much..?

    He did bad stuff??

  • @shadykb I salute you, sir.

  • @shadykb For sure...the 32 people that dislike this song have no idea what real music is ♥♥

  • This feels so right in my ears.

  • Just can wait to see them in real. Soon hopefulluy

  • That was there great concert, I also went to there pices of eight tour when they came to Atlanta in 1978 Nov.16 @ the Omni that bulinding has long been torn down but held some great concert groups.

  • I was there great concert, I also went to there pices of eight tour when they came to Atlanta in 1978 Nov.16 @ the Omni that bulinding has long been torn down but held some great concert groups.

  • Im not a styx fan at all but this song kicks ass no joke

  • Lol you need to pay for your pictures

  • I photographed Styx in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • the band is actually equinox, dennis de young was in the band

  • @drummond62 yea and I'm the Jewish Pope and I'm a muslum. They kicked Dennis out of the band when he said it was his way or the highway. That came from JY in an interview. They're greatest songs were 1) Crystal Ball 2) Miss America 3) Blue Collar Man 4) Snow Blind 5) Renegade. The rest are the Dennis Deyoung songs, the has the personalty of a coffee table, thats why then sent him down the road. FYI Stxy was started as a 3 piece by James Young and Chuck and John Panozzo who were neighbors.

  • @MasterWitchDoctor Actually, they started the band with DeYoung (he was their neighbour, not J.Y). Curewleski was the forth member, and JY was actually the fifth member to join the band.

*Just though I'd point that out.

  • @EthanRaymond69 I left out Shaw, sorry (Curewleski replaced him)

  • @EthanRaymond69 Damn do I keep screwing up. Completely disregard the last statement. I'm doing like 10 things at once right now.

  • @EthanRaymond69 is/was

  • @EthanRaymond69 I don't know where you get your info from but Wikipedia get theirs (the info I sourced) straight from the band themselves. Maybe you should do a little research before you are mistaken about what you think. Use Wikipedia and enter Styx an read what they themselves have. Any misinformation on Wikipedia would result in slander and I'm sure you know where that ends. Dennis DeYoung is/as an afterthought.

  • @EthanRaymond69 after practice what I'm preaching I see you are correct in that it was Dennis and not JY.

  • @drummond62 I suppose you think "Babe" was a good song huh? The only good thing about that song was changing it before I threw up from listening to its whiney ass. He ruined Styx, point in case where the horrid concerts they put on in 1983 in support of Kilroy was here. Quite possibly the worst concert I ever seen. That was Dennis DeYoungs creativeness. A complete failure and watching 15,000+ people at the Hollywood Sportatorium boo him then walk out. Thats why Styx banned him from the band.

  • I live in Canada, but fuck, I love this song.

  • i love the song but i dont like america so fuck the statue of liberty and thats probably why theres 17 dislikes

  • @welderMTL

Screw. You. America is freaking awesome.

  • @coling94 You should educate your self about America's government... Maybe then you wouldn't speak so highly of the country. Or maybe you were just kidding?

  • @welderMTL So many fools today, saying America's evil! America is the symbol of freedom, we can do as we please. We also help other countries to become the same way. Why do you people fail to see that?

  • @welderMTL You can hate America all you want since you don't benefit from it in any way. You don't live, work, eat, sleep, fornicate, etc. in the U.S.A. You would be too conspicuous anyway. The instant somebody saw you they would just flush the toilet and you'd disappear. At least you keep the toilet paper manufacturers employed.

  • Wicked song. thanks.

  • Styx without Dennis DeYoung, is like a submarine with a screen door, it just doesn't work!

  • Amazing intro!

  • I could give up my balls and all but never my ears, seriously, and I know some of you, if not most, are the same.

  • too bad the poster of this video had to ruin it by saying "vote mccain"..........geesh, can't you keep the petty level of politics out of a lovely tribute to our great nation??????

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller lol, have some hope you f-ing psycho, jesus

  • @impact153 Thanks I guess? Hope?

  • @MrStephenjohnmiller

Whatever is going on in the World is not only the USA's doing. So get a grip and look at the whole picture., that is if you are able, many are blind...want to know how to take the blinders off?

  • This song was stuck in my head today. Somehow it added to my Patriotism.

  • funkster007..what a time it was for sure. this was music, in my opinion...

  • such a fun melody to play <3

  • This song is still completely enchanting!

  • i saw them play this july 2010 in boston , sounded as good as the first time i heard it 30 years ago

  • I don't think they were underrated, just that at the pivotal moment, Dennis DeYoung crossed that fine line from genius to madman. Too bad.

  • Like Wayne Campbell, I think that Styx was a vastly underrated band.

  • the beginning is so similar to led zeppelin babe im gonna leave you

  • The part 4:31-5:07 is when I go back and listen again and again, "...Americaaaa...americaaaa...america. Americaaaa....americaaa...america". A nation now on a verge of collapse from national debt to 'parasites' within our borders; terrorists, drug cartels, illegal aliens, foreign and domestic gangs and our very own government. Along with this huge debt, we have become our very 'own' worst enemy. Remember 9-11-01 when 'certain' parasites known as 'terrorists' took 3,000 lives.

  • @ScorpioBornIn69

we are blue, but wont collapse. get to work, and quit looking for someone to blame...

  • I've seen them in concert 6 times! Always always a fantastic show!

  • I saw styx live 3 weeks ago, it was one of the best show I ever saw

  • 16 people dont know a good song when they hear it

  • 3:40 nough said

  • i tend to like the beginnings of styx's songs better than their endings.

  • Ive seen Styx 3 times in Concert, HEAVENLY, to say the least! They sound just like their albums ! Real Musicians, fantastic vocals! Worth every pennie! I Love every song!!!!!

  • I concede to a few points you made ogdocvato except for a few things. For one thing, we are talking about this country and the direction it has and is taking. We have and are losing are place as the supposed beacon of light as we once where. That is what Styx was talking about and I`m not sure if one can consider that place as better then it once was.....As far as the rest of the world goes, at least we at one time knew who are enemies where. As I said before, keep the faith and keep on rocking!!!

  • Super Love this song - I was 15 and messed!
