  • I'm related to Chargin' Charlie :) he's my cousin somewhere down the Glotzbach line haha (unfortunately, I have not met him though)...one more thing to clarify, it's pronounced Glotz-Bauk haha...i noticed the announcer said it like Glotz-Back. :)

  • 0:30. Holy Hell i saved it :D.... lol nevermind.... D:

  • got to meet Charlie years ago at a 1/4 mile asphalt track in Corbin ky.

He showed up kicked our buts and then took the $1,000.00 and left

  • Can anyone tell me which road curses used to race Nascar? I know right now there are the Gleen and Infineon, but there are others tracks (some disapeared). I watch a road race of the early 80´s and was fun as hell!

  • @ekauq um the main other one was riverside

  • This is one of those crashes that Darrell Waltrip (if he was commentating) would be saying "charlie should have woed his car down, he could have easily saved this race car."

  • i never heard of him until today when he was badly injuried in a Special Event at Bristol when he rammed into Larry Pearson at 120 MPH... DRIVERSIDE of Larry. Charlie is okay but Larry is still uncertain as of now.

  • this guy and Larry Pearson jjust had a horrific crash in the legend race at Bristol. He is okay but we wait for futher word for Pearson. Pray for him and The Pearsons.............pray.

  • Great video man, but I laughed when I read "(i bet most of you kids have never heard of him lol" It's funny because according to your profile, you were 5 years old when this happend. LOL And yes, Charlie was one heck of a driver, pretty underrated during his career IMO. Im just ribbin ya battalionfan888, I love your videos, many I haven't seen since I watched them. I also have tons of races on tape......I used to tape every race when they came on, but I have no capping equipment.

  • @pettymike45 I laughed at this too. I was only 7 when this race happened, but I sure as hell remember Chargin' Charlie. If you've been around the sport your whole life...you know these things and these guys. Just to prove my point, I found out that Phil Barkdoll lives in the town where I work so I'm not determined to find him...LOL.

  • Charlie was a great Kentuciana driver for years. Dave Huber

  • I read some time ago that 'Chargin` Charlie did 243 mph test driving a Dodge Charger on the Chrysler proving grounds.

    Can anyone confirm this?

  • ive seen something about it. was not to long after hemi heads came along, and restrictor plates

  • Charlie subbed for Sterling Marlin in 1991.

  • Glotzbach has three points victories to his name; the 1968 National 500 at Charlotte, the 1970 Yankee 400 at Michigan and the already mentioned 1971 Volunteer 500 at Bristol. He also won one of the 1970 qualifying races at Daytona.

  • "He wants to drive it closer to the camera so we can see the spitfire" HaHa classic espn

  • I remember him winning few ARCA races

  • It's too bad Junie and his #90 aren't still around. He gave some great underdog drivers like Charlie, Jody Ridley, Mike Wallace, Dick Trickle etc a shot in decent equiptment.

  • youre right, i DON'T know who he is lol

  • aint he from the 60's?

  • Charlie Glotzbach I belive nearly won a 500 in the 60's or 70's but lost it on the final lap....and I belive was once a ARCA Champion

  • never heard of him and that was a heard crash

  • I go to school with Charlies grandson, Matt. Charlie and Matt both live about 5 minutes away from me in Indiana.

  • hey...hes my cousin...think u can get his autograph 4 me? lol...jk though(about the autograph thing)...thats cool that u know his grandson

  • he's my great cousin.....look at my screen name....valgBACH...glotzbach....they pronounced my last name wrong

  • was a beautiful car

  • Charlie Glotzbach (i bet most of you kids have never herd of him lol) Crashes in the 1992 Winston 500, well I'm 18 and I'm sure I have, I think his car was included in the first Nascar Simulator Released by papyrus back in 94.

  • I don't believe he was in it.

  • I'm 18 and I know him. How can any stock car fan know about "Charging Charlie." He happens to be one of the best ARCA racers of all time.

  • i used to hear his hemi start up from my house 7 miles away near polly freeze.

  • Well he was in NASCAR Legends, the game based on the 1970 season.

  • He STILL owns the Bristol race record at 101.024 because there was not a single caution flag when he won...I don't think his record will be broken.

  • he still owns the one lap record at daytona ( i think) 0 to 199 mph in one lap wing car

  • Filled in for Marlin back in 1991 after Marlin got burned at Bristol.

  • I was at the benefit Ned Jarrett is mentioning in the beginning of the video. I was 4 1/2 and way too shy to look up at him but my mother took me up to get an autograph, I wouldn't look up but I heard him talking.

  • I was at this race. Same race Jimmy Spencer got airborne in.

  • He holds some track qualifying records

  • Sorry, I posted that before I saw him trying to fire it up...my bad.

  • I believe he filled in for Sterling Marlin's 22 once also...he wasn't injured in this wreck right?

  • didnt he win the daytona 500 once, or am i crazy

  • No,he finised 2nd in 1969 to Lee Roy Yarbrough driving for Cotton Owens.

  • ok thanks

  • Sure thing.

  • I think he won a caution-free race at Bristol?

  • he did

  • Very cool; I keep forgetting Charlie raced so recently! :)

  • Charlie also apparently holds the all-time lap record at my local short track, Sportsdrome Speedway in Jeffersonville, Indiana.

  • Charlie won a couple races at Talladega in ARCA competition. I have a site with old ARCA results on it.

  • what year were roof flaps introduced?? i cant remember, it doesnt look like they had them here cuz none deployed

  • 1994

  • thnx

  • He just got nervous racing side by side with The King lol

  • I've heard of him, and I'm a teen. He raced back in the late 60's-early 70's in the #99 Dow Automotive Dodge Charger. He was real good on superspeedways.

  • For a moment it looked like he had it saved until he lost it.
