@mcflurey667 After the events of the first game, AIs were made intelligent enough to carry out tasks but not able to think for themselves. XERXES didn't work for The Many, they took control of him.

An AI, that, if it had its 'restraining bolt' removed, or if it failed (like what happened with SHODAN with her ethical safeguards removed by the Hacker in SS1) had no checks on its self-autonomy. To their credit, XERXES actually *did* fix that problem-- only no one could have counted on The Many on Tau Ceti V (or even *worse*, that the antithesis to XERXES, SHODAN, still lived...).

@mcflurey667 Xerxes was built to be easy to hack. In part by design, to weaken it in case it went rouge. In part because the whole project was rushed. When the Many started to take control over the crew, one of them was compelled to hack Xerxes so that he will work for the Many.

Shodan lets you active an emitter located in the Atheltics bulkhead, this allows Shodan to delete Xerxes's primary data loop.

Xerxes gets deleted, Shodan takes over.

She is more intelligent AI than Xerxes (who was dumbed down and made more botlike to not repeat the same catastrophe again) which was originally good and non psychopathic and was the AI of the Citadel, but she was hacked by a hacker paid by some irresponsible fuck who wanted the Shodan to not notice his crimes, so the hacker removed her morality programming and she became psychopathic and started to behave like a megalomaniacal freak...

@m1omg Compared to GLaDOS, GLaDOS Is 10% Less intelegent then Xerxes and Shodan. GLaDOS Just hangs there in the center of Aperture, And controls everything in Aperture. Shodan and Xerxes can't rebuild, GLaDOS May rebuilt by itself, But the changes of it's control may be changed, and it may lose a few parts, and system controlers. And it's Artificial Life is Turning more Natural, but The AI IS Very unstable, so is SHODAN And Xerxes.
