  • hhhhhhhhh donkey monkey

  • " Hurting innocent candles " I need to clean my display

  • How long did it take you to blow one candle out on your first try?

  • thnx for the vid, helped me with my speed, i live in a messed up neighborhood so it helped me alot to protect my self, especially against ppl who tried to jump me.

  • @karasublue LOL

  • "AHHH!! HONEY!! THE KITCHEN'S ON FIRE!!!"

    runs in "i got this"

starts punching and kicking fires out

    "why'd you do that?"

    "To save water"

  • @karasublue - Well, I hope this hypothetical man hasn't spent ALL his time punching puddles. Because the vast majority of my training is spent on bag work, sparring, weight training/plyometrics, cardio, and technique practice.

  • nice i think i might try and beat your 5 candles.

  • Do that on your next birthday (:

  • happy birthday

  • @cajuncoonass This is an exercise to understand a simple "principle". This is not some special punching technique. If im at the bar and someone tries to pick up my "girlfriend", what is going to be aiding me is ten years of practice in various martial arts, a rigorous strength and exercise training regime, hours and hours of heavy bag work per week, and regular sparring practice. This exercise just teaches people to snap their punches. Maybe I didn't make my point clear enough.

  • @cajuncoonass Pwned.

  • There is a compressed wave of air pushed in front of any object, displacing air. This is a normal physics effect. It is possible to punch out a candle using the air displacement. I didn't believe in this until I just managed to do it tonight just curious about it. Granted i was only a couple inches from the target and will experiment with longer distances as shown in some of these videos.

  • fucking idiot he is using the speed of his arm to creat wind too words the candle

  • this is too fake. the flames move before the hit is set. there is a lag BEFORE, not AFTER. im sorry to critique but, do one showing your face and your whole upper body. I'm afraid this video does not look real. Redo it to prove me wrong, this time with you face in the camera, and you smiling while doing the one punch. thank you.

  • Not one candle, BUT THREE!!!!

  • why didnt he punch out the match>!?!?!

  • nice video..if you want see my wooden dummy too..

    /watch?v=UkhyhZzxIlk

  • Also a nice tactic is to wait until the candles just burn out. And when that happens - there is at least a certainty that they will not lighten (or be lightened) up again. Soft way, natural way.

  • Wow, and I'm struggling with one candle. lol

  • put the candles at chest height and then try to punch them out. you will find this a lot harder as the air coming off your fist will be travelling horizontally. punching downward just flaps the flames out and it is incredebly easy to do

  • @elchewo1 - I agree in the most part. I would have used elevated candles, but unfortunately I had no method of raising them. It wasn't difficult but I wouldn't say it made it "indcredibly easy".

  • @BlackDice572 lol you say that but you had high candles that you kicked?

  • @BlackDice572 try elevating by just putting some books underneath. cheers

  • @BlackDice572 no need for elevated candles, just put it in higher place or use a tall candle. for example put it in a shelf.

  • impressive! may be you will be interesting to measure real phisical speed of your punch using software for your personal computer and compare with UK boxer champion Ricky Hatton (32mph)?

  • @GuitarEffects - I certainly would be interested. I can't seem to find anywhere that I can buy it though, without being asked to subscribe to lengthy and expensive weight loss programs, or video renting companies. If you could point me in the direction of somewhere I can get hold of one I would be greatful.

  • @BlackDice572

To do speed measurement you must have a computer, notebook or netbook + small computer microphone and pc speaker (notebook and netbook have pc speaker build in always)

    Have you?

P.S. software speed meter is mine and I can give you it free, I am programer-developer.

  • @GuitarEffects - curently It shows punch speeds in meters per seconds... good or your prefer mph? I can reprogram it to show the speed in mph

  • @GuitarEffects Where do you get this software? I am interested in this as well. It sounds really cool. Let me know!

  • @GuitarEffects - Well, I dont have a hand held microphone, but Im sure I could figure something out. If you want, I will send you my email adress and you can send it to there.

Its very generous of you to offer.

  • @GuitarEffects how do you use the mic and the speaker to get the speed?

  • Wow I love this I just try it and it works I punch out two candle my 1st time. I will be training with this methods. Every other day. Do you have any more to share. Thank you for sharing.

  • funny clip

  • I have found that I can blow out more candles while using a rolled up newspaper or magazine. I have gotten so fast using this training that I can blow out the candle and relight it, without anyone seeing me move.

  • that was cool..

  • looks kinda noobish. Actually quite difficult though.

  • 1:11 that punch was well fast.

  • Hey big D ;) not having a go at you man, just sharing some of my experiance with you brother. Great series of videos brother!!!

  • I didn't think that you were, and Im greatful for your ideas. Thanks.

  • dude i tried punching out a candle with a boxing jab and my elbow snaped kinda i dont know if i should keep my hand relaxed or tense it up at the end of the punch pls reply fast

  • If your elbow is "snapping" or clicking, it may be that your extending your elbow too far. Even right at the end of the punch there should be a slight bend still in your elbow.

I think its good practice to tense your fist slightly at the end of your punches. But it needn't be an obvious tension, just a subtle tensing for a split second.

  • yeah i was extending my punch to the fullest guess that how i was taught anyways thnx for the reply

  • @haris000000 i can do that and im a muay thai slash boxer i can knock out 7 candles with one jab and 12 with a thai kick wich you whip it through

  • @crewfoos u must have some wicked type 2 muscles

  • your arm and out through the flame, then see it loop back in to your hand traveling back to your dan tien. PEACE!!!:)

  • Since making this video I have regretted not making a point of having the candles at a good punching height, but when making this I had no surface available to raise them that high.

The extra candles is a variation on gradually increasing the distance. The furthest candle from you gets further away the more candles you add.

  • Nice little series of videos buddy, a point to incorporate in your "punching out candles" training is to have the flame set at the same hieght as your shoulder will be in your favoured stance for this exercise, punching down and out is far too easy, also start a lot further back and gradually increase the distance once you can punch out the flame on each succesive punch, and keep your mouth closed with tight lips, see your chi leave your dan tian, travel up to centre chest, then down

  • I've done 4 punch combos with Wing Chun turns. It's fascinating to see how important the stance is. Also the exhaling right when the punch is being delivered.

  • Just tried it. Knocked the candles over, burnt my finger and set my carpet on fire. What a day -.-

  • wotta bullshit!! wow, now you can fight a candle..... harharhar

  • seriously...did you think before you posted.....did you even read the title of the video you clicked on....its speed training retard

  • thx mate !

  • so what is it? is it chi or just the air?

  • It's just air, Im afraid.

  • Bad form. You're cheating.

1you're punching down at the candle.

which doesnt matter so much except that the flames are so close to the table that it makes it SUPER easy.

use Tall candles and position them level withy your shoulder with nothing behind hind them accept for more candles atleast a foot away from a wall.

you kids at home can try this too.

try to punch a candle out.

then put it up against a wall and try again. it goes much easier the seccond time.

  • I'd agree that although the things you mention do make the exercise marginally easier, the number of candles in a row easily makes up for that. Also, having a candle close against a wall behind is not the same as being close to the table underneath. The effect from the rebounding of the air is simmilar but no where near as strong from the table underneath. Besides, this is not a demonstrational video, it is suposed to be instructional.

  • why dont you post a video doing it?

  • how do you stand ?

    while punching

    Nice Video man

  • Well, I have 75% of my weight on my back leg. My back foot is at 90 degrees and my front foot is turned in 30 degrees or so so that the knee turns in, to protect the groin. The front foot is about two foot's length in front of the heel of my back foot.

  • oke

    Thanks for the info

  • what a fuck in hell? fast punches!!!

  • WTF!

  • he looks like the avatar when he does that

  • whooooooooah! You really did kick and punch those candle lights out!.........Trying that with a side hand sweep fair to do?might be easier for beginners.Thank you for the teaching!

  • those are small candles

  • So use giant ones that are 50 ft high, and use your dragonball skills to jump into the air and kick/punch them out. A candleflame is a candleflame.... Why be such a naysayer? Get off youtube, you naysayer, with all your naysaying. NAYNAY!

  • .....ummm i dont know what ur talking about, i was just inferring that if he used a little bit biger candles its be cool

chill out man! no need to use big exaggerations

  • you blow it

  • @YYJBL

its not fake... I can do it too. My record is 7 candles with an open fist and 3 with a closed

  • Thanks a lot for this, it's really a great idea for speed punches and really put the speed in perspective for me. It took a few punches to get it right, but I managed to blow the candle out with a punch from my non dominant left hand but then it was a lot harder to put the candles out with my dominant right hand. Guess this is because I'm too used to jabbing just with my left hand. This exercise really helped me to see what I need to work on, so thanks again!

  • this isnt speed training this is how some one learns to throw chi

  • I seem to hear this alot. Chi is not a physical object or entity. It can not be thrown/expelled, nor does is have any manifestation outside of the body. To have a strong chi, one simply has a congregation of factors that lead to strength and health, or "power" in a particular area, or systemically.

  • i do htis but can i tell u something when i do a while my arms start to ache and when it does my hand speed start to decrease so can i tell u soemting i did and correct me pls ty : when it start to ache i punch slower but i dont stop is it good or must i keep punching fast ALL the time or can i decrease the speed for a while but most impoertantly dont stop tips pls ? thx soo much

  • thats why they Always say

" No pain No gain "

    Just Keep Doing it..

  • oh soo just keep doing it and dont care bout the speed ???? just do it and ull get it???? hahaha thx for ur reply

  • hi thx for ur tips i really appreaciate it thx. 1 Questio n though how long do u do it and how to know wheter my speed increase or not? and how long does it takes to increse the speeD? cause i once done it for like 1 month and i dont see any improvement so i stopped until now . reply pls thx

  • Well i have a friend who's been in tai chi chaun an his master can use his chi to inflict some heavy blows. I have only witnessed his palm strikes i am a skeptic but it did blow that guy a good 20ft

  • agreed, but that might just be a mis communication. I think what alex meant to say was you have good power and chi in your punches which is the result of your good speed.

  • Awesome, this is a lot more fun than just drilling misc. wushu techniques.

  • Gives new meaning to "punch your lights out."

  • ok thats interesting, thanks for the info.

  • what style of martial arts do you practice?

  • Well, I got my basics from my black belt in Tang Soo Do. I did some Tai Chi, but not enough to be called proficient in it. I will, however, definately be returning to practicing Tai Chi in the future. I get alot of what I do from books, or from visiting or practicing with friends who are in other martial arts.

  • Try it with one finger chest level. Now that is advanced.

  • I am actually of the belief that doing it with one finger poiting out of a clench first, makes little to no differance to just doing it with a clenched fist.

When you have one finger pointed forward, the air is still being prepelled from the fist behind it in the same way.

You are definately right about the chest level ideal though.

  • wow 4 candles..cool...looks like magic xD

  • very interesting exercises you teach here.. but first I gotta get the hang of punching out ONE candle first! =D thanks for uploading as well as teaching!

  • Your quite welcome. Thank you.

  • Relax, it'll make it a lot easier :p

  • Hello there, man. I did some testings with the candles; your videos are really nice, but I got some questions.

Somebody in your comments says that you should punch in FRONT of the candles, not from up to down or or from a 45 degree angle. Is this correct?

Also do all kind of candles requiere the same amount of speed to be blown out?

If I don't own several candles of the same height (like you), how should I order them and how should I punch them? From the front?

  • Yes, I'd say it would be better to punch at around head height definately (Instead of down at 45 degrees). I dont know whether it makes it easier or not, but it would certainly be moreeffective as training.

Some candles area easier to punch out than others and a newly lit candle is even easier, so if you want any candle to be harder then leave it ro burn for five or so minutes first.

  • Oh, nice, that's why it gets harder to punch them out after a while of doing it.

Thank you for your answer and the video. Very helpful. =)

  • Make ur fists go in front to candles. If u hit from up to down(like you)Its 20 times easier

  • pretty impresive, seen another vid on speed training i think it's really cool youtube(dot)

    com/watch?v=yQjHWnclXog

  • A truely awesome video. Thanks for sharing that with us.

  • Wow. Am impressed. COOOL!!!!!

  • LOL, 4 candles ?!

  • u sayed u can kick the candle but actually when u kick u produce alot of wind and u just blow it away

    :D

  • lol u blowed on the fire

  • I think that blowing the candles out from that distance would be almost as difficult as punching them out. But no, I didn't blow them out. And, if you can hear me clear my throat so clearly in this, then you would have surely heard me blowing on them.

  • what kind of candles are they. the one i practice on really takes effort to out. if yah dont mind letting me know ?

  • I just used tee-lights for this video. At first its easier to blow them out, but if you leave them to burn for a minute or so then it becomes more difficult. I have no idea how difficult it is with the candles you use so I can't really say whether this is easier/harder than what your doing now.

  • thanks and kool video btw

  • Have you tried to raise up the candles to shoulder hight and blow out the candle in a line instead of an angle? It probably won't make much difference, but I'm just saying.

Very nice! I'm gonna start training this skill soon.

You should try those trick candles that don't blow out. It's a little harder to put them out, but you don't have to relight them every time.

  • Insane!il have to try so far all ur vids i looked at i luv dude ur jus skilled!!

  • Tang Soo Do :D as a kid I wanted to do that :D it's like TKD but nicer there was no Tang Soo Do gym in my town so I first started jiu jitsu for a year than TKD for a year now I'm doing Muay Thai for a few months and it's a very good system

  • Tang Soo Do is like Tae Kwon Do... but nicer?

I don't really understand that to be honest. What do you mean by "nicer" ?

  • it has a big weapon style part in it like bo-staff, swords ... ( I never seen weapon forms in TKD so that's the nicer part ). Now I do muay thai and it's in my opinion the best fighting style for on the street ( and as ringsport ).

  • cool, that makes sense! thanks for the info :D

  • is this good for muay thai ( jab and cross punches ? ) what is your fightingstyle ?

  • thats really cool. im gonna try it but not the kick one. ill probably knock it over.

  • That is pretty impressive. I'd like to try it, I reckon I could do it, just my parents wouldn't be too happy if I started messing with candles. I might try it outside.

I wouldn't try kicking, just in case I knocked the candle over. You have any safety measures, lol?

  • Safety measures? Not really no, heh.

This really isn't that impressive. Anyone can learn to do this consistantly in about a month with enough practice. I really havn't pushed it any further than this.

  • why not push it further? Step farther and farther back and extenguish the candles, give the candles less and less motion and see how little it takes to extenguish the candle, get to a point where you just flick your wrist and it goes out. Or it goes out with just chi alone, i know you can do it.

  • Really it is just a matter of free time. There is only so much of it. I have quite alot of free time at the moment so maybe I will take it up again.

  • What's the proper stance you spoke of in the video? And is there any special way you punch the flame to make them go out?

  • What I meant in the video is to use a stance that you would already use in your martial art or to use a stance that you would use in conflict. There is also no special way of punching, because the idea is that you use a punch that you would use in a fight, as apposed to adapting it in any way to putting out the candle. If you adapted it to punch out the candle specifically then it becomes a less effective training method.

  • Ahh, yes. Thanks! =]

  • cool dude keep up the good work

  • Lol this isnt that advanced though it is pretty good, some people can put the candles out from long distances 10+ feet lol i saw a 30 foot demonstration.

  • you saw somebody blow out a candle with a punch from 30 feet away? that's impossible!

  • A hard one for evrybody to try. Put your palm or fist in front of the candle and pull it back IF you do that hard and fast enough the candle will go out.

At karate they train it with a blanket. Hit forwards and the blanket will be blown away. Pull it back and the blanket will go with you.

Then you'll have blowing and sucking strength.

  • is it hard to punch a candle light out? with a straight fist

  • how long should we perfect this training?

  • No training can ever be perfected.

  • i heard you blow out the candles, ungrateful bitch!!

  • I do hate to point this out, but... If you put a candle under a jar.. It will go out anyway. Behind a screen perhaps?

  • Not under a jar. Inside it. Place a candle inside a glass jar, with the top open. Throw your strike on the outside of the jar and see if you can put the candle out inside the glass jar.

  • Ah, I see, that would explain a few things. I must appologies, I appear to have deleted your previous post by mistake.

  • No problem! Putting the candle inside a glass jar is something I learned from a Shaman who does it as a part of her own palm strike training. It's hard to do! Which makes it a great training aid! Have fun with it!

  • Could you explain this a little further? You mean like a bedside lamp? Does the flame have to be in the bottom of the jar? In the middle?

  • LOL. Smartass

  • I read about this trick from Bruce's Lee manual a couple of days ago and I started to practice it. The easier punch to blow the candle off is the backfist and then I would say the dragon claw is not to hard either. What I find a bit difficult is the normal punch. I do it using my lead hand, like a box jab. I wasn't able to do it yet with my ''cross'' hand.

What really amazes me is the distance that your punch stops away from the candles. I snap my punch much closer to it.

  • Why does the video shake when you blew out the candles, did you hit the table?

  • I honestly couldn't say. Perhaps sudden stop of my arm shakes my body enough to shake the floor slightly. Neither the desk or my floor are very sturdy.

  • not tryin to be a wiseass, but howz this supposed to make you a better striker?

  • Well, in order to generate enough speed to create the wind that is needed to put out the candle you have to do it really quickly and have a sudden stop or tension to the end of the strike. Speed is the most important feature of a fighter as far as most are concerned, and the "tension" at the end of the strike stops whatever force you put into something else being put back into your own arm and forces it instead into whatever your hitting. By practicing this your practicing those two things.

  • is this done with chi/ki energy?

  • That is a really big question. One with an answer that would be too large to answer in a comment reply. What I will do, if you want, is to send you the answer in a personal message to your youtube acount.

  • hey can you send me it too =D lol

  • Aren't you just pushing the air with your fist?

  • yep the faster the punch the greater the air is produce

  • Then why did he say that using chi or not is a big question?

  • im not sure but im using common sense

  • I must say, I'm more into MMA type martial arts, but this is imrpessive.

  • have you put it in glass yet? im at your level..and trying something harder..let me know how you do..

  • I have meant to try that, but I have not yet.

  • hey i want to ask something

is there anyway to make the fist harder?

  • Conditioning your hands is something that should be done very carefully. I use the shaolin iron palm conditioning system. It's very important to look after your hands when doing any sort of conditioning. I should at some point be uploading a video on iron palm training and conditioning, but until then you may want to try simple stuff like push ups on your knuckles or hitting one hand against the other in various ways.

  • ok thx^^

but I saw shaolin monks punching 2 hours a piece of paper on the wall to make their fist harder

    does that work?

  • Well, yes, but I definately wouldn't do that to start off with. You should never condition your hands against something that doesn't have any "give", like wood or concrete, and I would say thick paper against a wall doesn't have much give at all. I use a canvas bag filled with mung beans (Kidney beans, soya beans, anything else will do the trick). It's very easy to permanently damage your hand trying to condition it, which is why you should always start slow and build up to harder practice.

  • a nice round river stone is useful as well. Slap it without heaps of force, just nice and firm (the curve of the rock moulds to the contour of your hand so your palm and fingers are conditioned) i also knifehand strike and punch it. but avoid stress fractures

  • i dont know if you blew them out!!!

  • I will be, at some point, putting up a video of my progress in all of my exercises and I'll make sure my face is visible.

  • bitch please!!

  • i think i just shit my self... dats crazy ass fuck i did one candel but 3 and 4 shit!

  • im not a martial arts fan myself, but that's definitely pretty cool that you can blow out 3 candles at once. on "kung-fu the legend continues" kwai chang kane could only blow out 1 candle at a time and he had to use an open palm. he was also a fictional character with a team of writers. great job!

  • yeah he don´t really know kung fu only fancy movements.

  • Nobody "knows" kung fu (gong fu), you "have" kung fu. Kung fu almost litterally means skill aquired through much practice, and doesn't really have anything to do with martial arts, except that having skill in martial arts that you have been practicing for many years, is to have kung fu in that martial art.

  • yeah i know gong fu but i mean this guy Kwan Chan Kane from the Kung Fu series mispelled it should be Gong Fu he don´t know nothing of Martial arts hes only an actor Bruce Lee he was a true Master.

  • o and also in opinion people what is more deadly: open palm or closed fist?

  • I personally would think it depends. It's much easier to break fingers when striking with a fist, but unless you've done special training, it's easier to hurt someone with a fist. When you say "more deadly", I think you would be more likely to crack a skull with an open palm. I tend to vary between strikes when sparring and on bagwork. Just my opinion, I am sure you will find others.

  • search "kimbo" in youtube. if you haven't seen him already, kimbo is a guy that punches people. he's really good at it. check out his videos, they should clear up all your questions, you'll at least be entertained.

  • i am in Muay Thai in iowa city, ia and this could help me here thanx

  • You sure your are not blowing the candles out?Lol show us your face whilst punching out the candles

  • Any strike based martial artist can get to this level in a couple of weeks if they practice enough. I'm afraid I wont be showing my face, as I purposefully have not done so in any of my videos, you will just have to take my word for it. Give it a go for a couple of weeks, if you have the time, it's not a skill that will leave you if you stop practicing.
