So i just bought this from zune. and i wanted to test its limits so i got a flash light and turned all the lights off. played this song. i had the flash light and a butterfly knife in hand. i have never felt a more primal fear in my whole life. i was at a complete stand still this song will make you shit yourself.

This song always made me feel like as if i'm being chased by a psycho in a forest and see my car trying to start it but it just wont start...and at 0:40 I just see the psycho exposed from the trees surrounded by pitch black walking towards me with a long jagged bloody pole...Silent Hill music really fucks with your head...
Jesus... Does anyone hear that noise in the background... Turn up your sound and listen around 0:16 to 0:20 ish, it really stands out there... but I seriouly thought it was a weird sound outside of my room
I remember this in the apartment building. This too scared the shit outta me. I was walking super slow expecting to get killed. My heart beating, & a chill running up my spine added to the uneasiness of the game. This was true horror that i ever experineced in a game...something i have yet to experience again. God i love this game!!
I like listening to this song when I need to get something done really fast, it gives me an adrenaline rush and if I need to go do something i'll blast this song on my Ipod and with it turned up so loud it makes me feel like something is coming up behind me so if I need to run i'll run 10 times faster!! xD I usually listen to it if i'm walking to my friend's house haha it's pretty far away so it gets me there faster obviously. :D

I can say that it scared me, and sh3 or sh4 did not - so what? that does not mean anything to anyone but mb me. That's all I said rly.
Can you just IMAGINE what it would be like if they took the Silent Hill game style/ music, mixed it with the capability to run and hide from monsters that are currently to powerful (kind of like in the game haunting ground), and had the perfect in your face music timing and total darkness like in dead space...
People will inevitably bullshit you with F.E.A.R. but Amnesia is the scariest game ever made, quite simply. It just meets everything in your description. You can get it on steam now. Also check out Penumbra, made by the same people.

If I remember right, this plays the second time you go through the room in the appartment were there's the dead guy on the sofa, in front of the T.V. Man, when I played this game as a kid I made it very important to go throu that room as quickly as possible, before the music began to be agressive because it didn't just scare the shit out of me, it left me TOTALLY TERRORFIED !!!! Even now, I listen to this, and at 25 years old, it makes me uneasy. Musical genius, something most games today lack

OR you can get the PC version. It's better anyways, better graphics and everything, another singleplayer story, and my favorite part, you get the chainsaw right in the beginning.

Everyone Has a little darkness in their mind. Ok am I the only one that was alone in a room with headphones in my ear and felt like someone was coming for me? I am officially screwed.
on several occasions the music hasmade me just close the game and walk away purely out of being creeped out. I don't want to turn the sound off, that would suck, but the music is just hellish, forget the monsters :S

When i heard that first "BOOM" in the game in knew was shit was gonna go down. I was so creeped out. Amazing how games can evoke such emotions. Man i miss good gaming with excellent stories and rich characters
@FinalFantasyLov3r124 oh hell i know what you mean. i was brave enough to actually ride out in the country at 1:30 and park on the side of the road just to see how scary it would be listening to this. it wasn't too long before i hauled ass out of there; i probably would've had a heart attack had i broke on the side of the road.
Addicted to Silent Hill is not bad for you if you're alright with being braindameged for the rest of your life because of it's freaky music that makes your head explode from the inside. God I love this game.
imagine yourself hearing this piece in a morgue at midnight. gives me goosebumps because its midnight here, feels like something is right behind me so i don't want to look.
@kraeckelium no-no-no. the 4th was ok, but already kinda lame and boring. all those annoying ghosts in the subway, spooky paranormal activity in the apartment, that girl from "the ring" (and 10k other jap horrors) in the subway, those lame bats (wtf? bats in my silent hill?). SH monsters used to be creepy Beacause they had nothing to do with monsters we are used to - vampires, zombies, ghosts - they were surreal AND they meant something. something important plotwise. The second SH was the best.
@kraeckelium they say that the forth game was developed not as the part of SH franchise - just some horror named "the room", but them some smart guy in Konami decided it'd sell better if called "SH4", so they made it connected to SH. I don't know if it's true, but it looked like that to me when I played SH4. SH1 was great and innovative, but with some cliches, like standart enemy set, SH2 was pure perfection of the genre, the third one was the beggining of the end rly.
@erghtrfgh + yes, the music was good till the 4th game, or even the 5th one, but Akira didn't make any real progress from the 2nd part. basicly he was good, but repeated himself from the part two. the only progress in the 3th part was the vocal. the 4th one? dunno. still some good sound, but kinda old. ..but still pretty good, yes.
@erghtrfgh the first one set the setting, introduced some innovations - utterly dark and surreal setting, the role of the music and sound, the helplesness of the protagonist (just compare it to RE). but the story wasn't that great cause of all the demonic stuff in it (c'mon). for me the first game is the pure setting and atmosphere. but the second one - it focussed on the character, had a personal story in it, all the manifestations of the town were personal but never ruined the setting.
@erghtrfgh well, in the third part all those "dogs in the subway" lame monsters and "she'll bear a god" plotlines returned. well, guess they had to do that, but the story about a girl-who-had-to-bear-a-monster is not that deeply touching for me really. even if that girl i cute as hell (and imho she is). sadly this game seemed to me less mature then the second one - more like the first one. and don't get me started on the 4th SH.

Sh2 was horrible. Not once did I get scared. Okay, that was as biuig as a lie as the cake is, but it took me about 3 hours to get scared. SH4 took me 2 minutes. SH3 took me almost instantly.

You did not like SH2? That's totally fine with me - I don't give a damn. But I got to tell you it's not all about getting you scared. One can point a gun at you and get you scared, but it will not be any kind of art. I was talking basically about impersonal things, like the way they used monsters and characters, the narrative, the use of locations. And what are you talking about? that you got scared by SH4 more? well, good for you.
If you take away the fear factor, the game becomes nothing. I went into SH2, thinking it would get me scared like 3 or 4. I just couldn't get fear across. By this, I lost credibility for the story. The monsters sucked ass, the story, while not generic, sucked ass.
Sh4, had a good story. Creepy atmosphere. But it is the same as FF13. It would have done TONS better if SIlent hill wasn't before it's name
+ SH2 is scary, but that is not that important in it. In fact it scared me more than SH3 and SH4 wich just bored me as hell. what is imo important is the story and the way it is told, and the way it touches you. SH3 had a crappy story, SH4 had a kinda nice one, but managed to ruin it the way it told it. they even used the same levels twice in the game, ffs.
I think the only time the game scared me is, I thought I controlled my character when Pyramid hit me off the hospital roof. The stupid dark room with the horse steps. And, that's it. Oh wait, the bathroom right next to the dark room. Sh4 however, the first ghost because I thought it spawned in my room. Stupid dogs because I didn't see them. Twin baby things gave me the biggest fear ever in a game to date.
But, to me, Dead space 2 wasn't scary so maybe I don't know what fear is/

Everything in sh2 has a reason, not in other parts. I still love sh1 & sh3 though. just think sh2 is the best.

All the SH has this same outing, even part 2. SH2 is the worst in my opinion. Monster design was horrid, Storyline was... just told bad, really bad, and James sounded like a pansy, so did henry in SH4 so that's kinda okay.

Ehh, there was no reason. The first half was directed to lead Heather home, and she just happens to be in a mall when Douglas finds her. Douglas was hired by claudia to follow Heather.

I was 14 when my siblings and I got Silent Hill 2. I remember watching my brother play, because while he (and my sister, to a lesser extent) is a badass when it comes to survival horror, I'm basically a chicken shit most of the time. I can barely manage RE1.
This song came on after that creepy well, running down the hallway and trying to figure out what came next. The little background noises could give me a freakin' stroke, I swear. Song still freaks me out, and makes me feel really nostalgic.
Is youtube where you've exiled to? If so that's good because here your opinion is disregarded even more so than it probably already is in real life. xD

@kraeckelium no-no-no. the 4th was ok, but already kinda lame and boring. all those annoying ghosts in the subway, spooky paranormal activity in the apartment, that girl from "the ring" (and 10k other jap horrors) in the subway, those lame bats (wtf? bats in my silent hill?). SH monsters used to be creepy Beacause they had nothing to do with monsters we are used to - vampires, zombies, ghosts - they were surreal AND they meant something. something important plotwise. The second SH was the best.

@kraeckelium they say that the forth game was developed not as the part of SH franchise - just some horror named "the room", but them some smart guy in Konami decided it'd sell better if called "SH4", so they made it connected to SH. I don't know if it's true, but it looked like that to me when I played SH4. SH1 was great and innovative, but with some cliches, like standart enemy set, SH2 was pure perfection of the genre, the third one was the beggining of the end rly.

@erghtrfgh + yes, the music was good till the 4th game, or even the 5th one, but Akira didn't make any real progress from the 2nd part. basicly he was good, but repeated himself from the part two. the only progress in the 3th part was the vocal. the 4th one? dunno. still some good sound, but kinda old. ..but still pretty good, yes.

@erghtrfgh the first one set the setting, introduced some innovations - utterly dark and surreal setting, the role of the music and sound, the helplesness of the protagonist (just compare it to RE). but the story wasn't that great cause of all the demonic stuff in it (c'mon). for me the first game is the pure setting and atmosphere. but the second one - it focussed on the character, had a personal story in it, all the manifestations of the town were personal but never ruined the setting.

@erghtrfgh well, in the third part all those "dogs in the subway" lame monsters and "she'll bear a god" plotlines returned. well, guess they had to do that, but the story about a girl-who-had-to-bear-a-monster is not that deeply touching for me really. even if that girl i cute as hell (and imho she is). sadly this game seemed to me less mature then the second one - more like the first one. and don't get me started on the 4th SH.

Sh2 was horrible. Not once did I get scared. Okay, that was as biuig as a lie as the cake is, but it took me about 3 hours to get scared. SH4 took me 2 minutes. SH3 took me almost instantly.

If you take away the fear factor, the game becomes nothing. I went into SH2, thinking it would get me scared like 3 or 4. I just couldn't get fear across. By this, I lost credibility for the story. The monsters sucked ass, the story, while not generic, sucked ass.
Sh4, had a good story. Creepy atmosphere. But it is the same as FF13. It would have done TONS better if SIlent hill wasn't before it's name

I think the only time the game scared me is, I thought I controlled my character when Pyramid hit me off the hospital roof. The stupid dark room with the horse steps. And, that's it. Oh wait, the bathroom right next to the dark room. Sh4 however, the first ghost because I thought it spawned in my room. Stupid dogs because I didn't see them. Twin baby things gave me the biggest fear ever in a game to date.
But, to me, Dead space 2 wasn't scary so maybe I don't know what fear is/

All the SH has this same outing, even part 2. SH2 is the worst in my opinion. Monster design was horrid, Storyline was... just told bad, really bad, and James sounded like a pansy, so did henry in SH4 so that's kinda okay.

I was 14 when my siblings and I got Silent Hill 2. I remember watching my brother play, because while he (and my sister, to a lesser extent) is a badass when it comes to survival horror, I'm basically a chicken shit most of the time. I can barely manage RE1.
This song came on after that creepy well, running down the hallway and trying to figure out what came next. The little background noises could give me a freakin' stroke, I swear. Song still freaks me out, and makes me feel really nostalgic.
