I was probably the only black child in the United States who wasn't watching The Cosby Show, and instead watched with great joy this weekly program. Today, I am archivist. Thanks, Linda. Thanks, Ray.
I know I'll sound like a nerd, but I have everyone of these on VHS tape and have watched them occasionally over the years as they are so well done. Linda Ellerbee and Ray Gandolf were the perfect people to host this program. Damn shame ABC aborted this after 1 year. It was much more entertaining than the The Cosby Show which ran opposite of this.
Thanks for posting this. Another favored television show taken away far too soon. I have this episode along with two others on V. H. S. tapes. The other two were about 1969 and the "Gone with the Wind" film. They should put the whole series out on D. V. D.
'Summer of '69' episode of "Our World" on here? Or at least the section on the Moon Launch, which was very well done in my opinion, and literally gave me goose-bumps. I too, at one time, had that episode on VHS, but it has long since been lost. Thank you.
A truly entertaining and informative program. Relatively inexpensive to produce, it was the perfect alternative for those of us who had no interest in the Cosby show. Unfortunately, revenue-hungry ABC didn't see it that way, and replaced it with The Charmings and Sledgehammer, two throwaway pieces of crap. The History Channel would be wise to consider producing such a show nowadays.
I had totally forgotten about this show! wow, it brought back memeories. I used to love watching it. In a time before The History Channel, this was the show to see.
This was a "throwaway" series, and ABC knew it. This WAS scheduled opposite "THE COSBY SHOW" and "FAMILY TIES" on NBC, at 8pm(et) Thursday nights. Despite protests from some viewers AND educators, the network quietly cancelled it after one season. Occasionally, ABC News will air an excerpt from one of these episodes on "WORLD NEWS NOW"....
I was lucky enough to tape most of the episodes, since I, too, worked evenings atg the time. It was an excellent show, but doomed since it aired against NBC "Cosby Show." If only ABC would release the show on DVD!!
im a teacher, and remember this show and how awesome it was. Ive looked for it several times. Is there anyway I cold get copies of your shows, for my s history classes?
This is one of my favorite programs, and ABC murdered it by putting it up against Cosby at the height of his popularity. Anyone know if/when the series is/will be available on DVD?
Bloody goode show,I loved this.To smart for Tv at the time?

Could you PLEASE, PLEASE post your
'Summer of '69' episode of "Our World" on here? Or at least the section on the Moon Launch, which was very well done in my opinion, and literally gave me goose-bumps. I too, at one time, had that episode on VHS, but it has long since been lost. Thank you.

I looked through my V. H. S. tapes. I thought I had the "Summer of 1969" episode, but it was the "Winter of 1968" episode. I am sorry.
AmethystWillow 2 years ago
That's OK Amethyst, thanks much for trying anyway. If you could post "the winter of 1968", that would be real cool to watch as well. Thanks again!!!

I loved this show. I used to work on the night it was on, and taped it every week. I think I still have all or most of the eppys on 5 or 6 VHS tapes.
