I found this match pretty colorless. Neither guy really sold or worked the crowd. There were some pretty good exchanges, but I found all of McGuiness's lariats and forearms very repetitive. They were high impact and made for good pops, but he used them to the point where it was almost shameless.

But, I think the question should be about the prestige of the ROH Belt, instead of whether or not its a World Title, because if you do that, than ROH is more of a World Title than WWE, WCW, or ECW. Simply because it is defended around the world in different promotions, similar to what the NWA does. WWE Title only stay around the waist of their contracted stars.
Jerichoholic is right, most publications (including the one that officially determines if a title has world title status: Pro Wrestling Illustrated) considered the ECW Championship a world title. Why? Because they had bi-monthly live PPVs (wheras ROH has one every 3 months and tapes them months early) and a national TV program, among other reasons. I'm not saying ROH is a bad promotion, I am just saying that they don't have great production values and they do NOT have a world title.
Any promotion that has has Kenta Kobashi or Mitsuharu Misawa wrestle for them is world class, not just "big names". The ROH title is more prestigious than the old ECW's title, and if you considered that a world title than you have no choice but to consider the ROH title a world title as well.
Pro wrestling Illustrated did not consider the (original) ECW title to be a world title until they got their tv deal. Once ROH gets a cable or broadcast tv deal, then I'm sure that it will get the same recognition. But, in my mind, ROH does have a legit world title.
That's their niche though. Being a mainstream promotion doesn't seem to be on the radar. Who knows though, maybe there's more people out there that would watch than is commonly accepted.
I have no problem with them being niche. It just bugs me that they try and claim their title is a world title (and that ROh fans claim its a world title) when they aren't even on TV. That may have been fine in the 1970s, but in 2008 you can legitimately claim to have a world title when your product can't even be seen on TV (not to mention having PPV's air 2-3 months after they happen).
That alone does NOT make it a world title. Under your logic, a indy fed in Toronto could have their title defended in Buffalo (less than 1 hour away) and that would technically make it a world title. The ROH Championship is NOT a world title.
I have comcast cable. I was able to order the ROH pay per view "Driven" That was my first time seeing ROH wrestling, and I was very impresssed. I was not able to order the last pay per view "Man up", because comcast didnt offer it. Does anybody know why?????
Lariet isnt his finisher its just one of his signature moves and trust me it is powerful enough if u watch one of his matches live damn the sound it makes..
yeah he even does the tiger kick feint, the one that looks like the 619 to the outside but feints instead i like his style very much he does the combanation of all these styles VERY well, bravo Perkins

Any promotion that has has Kenta Kobashi or Mitsuharu Misawa wrestle for them is world class, not just "big names". The ROH title is more prestigious than the old ECW's title, and if you considered that a world title than you have no choice but to consider the ROH title a world title as well.

Pro wrestling Illustrated did not consider the (original) ECW title to be a world title until they got their tv deal. Once ROH gets a cable or broadcast tv deal, then I'm sure that it will get the same recognition. But, in my mind, ROH does have a legit world title.

That's their niche though. Being a mainstream promotion doesn't seem to be on the radar. Who knows though, maybe there's more people out there that would watch than is commonly accepted.

I have no problem with them being niche. It just bugs me that they try and claim their title is a world title (and that ROh fans claim its a world title) when they aren't even on TV. That may have been fine in the 1970s, but in 2008 you can legitimately claim to have a world title when your product can't even be seen on TV (not to mention having PPV's air 2-3 months after they happen).

That alone does NOT make it a world title. Under your logic, a indy fed in Toronto could have their title defended in Buffalo (less than 1 hour away) and that would technically make it a world title. The ROH Championship is NOT a world title.

I have comcast cable. I was able to order the ROH pay per view "Driven" That was my first time seeing ROH wrestling, and I was very impresssed. I was not able to order the last pay per view "Man up", because comcast didnt offer it. Does anybody know why?????
