  • This is all clear, but i have trouble finding which "two loops on the other side of the foundation stitch" are. There are so many loops.. i really get them confused.

  • Aaaaaa!!! How do I turn it then??

  • @mommy2otto You turn your work and continue with your pattern. If you are working the double crochet, you decide if you want to work with a chain 1 turn working a full stitch in each stitch. OR do you want to work the chain on the edge. It is the same as working in a chain.

  • Thank you SO much ... it goes to show me once again that age is not a barrier for learning!

I recently learned a new way to cast on for knitting, too.

    To you and others like you who share their skills I stand up {Standing Ovation}

  • @Marny5580 Thank you very much. :)

  • I just watched the single and never saw that method before. Now I'm watching this one and wonder how both/either are/is used when making something.

You're a good teacher. Thank you, tjw.

  • @Marny5580 This is a technique that will replace the foundation chain. If you have a project that starts with a very long chain, use this instead.

  • Thank you for this video. I know how to do this, but today for some reason, now matter how many times I tried I could not remember! lol. You always seem to save the day when I need or want to make something. I love all of your videos and want to say thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I saw a pattern yesterday and I needed to know how to do this stitch. Once again I can always trust your videos to learn it. Thank you so much!!! Your the BOMB.COM!!!

  • Hey T! What is the purpose of this and the other 2 types? Is it to make the project go by faster?

  • I am a beginner but understood your directions perfectly. I really like this "chain-free" alternative...I still find the very long chains difficult to work with, so this is a life-saver...(sanity saver! ha ha)

  • @kathyboly19 Glad you like it, thank you.

  • you talk to fast in the beginning... where it's important to begin slow.

  • I tried and tried to learn to crochet from books- back when the world was flat and only the wealthy own a video player. Finally, I met my grandmother. She taught me the granny square. -Fitting name. Anyway, she taught me the basics before she passed, and I taught myself the rest. That is until FDC. What a nightmare! You put what where!? The hook does what!? Thank you for waking me up. Thank you for taking the time to show me (and the world) WHAT NO BOOK CAN. Thank you.

  • @LovelyAmberLight I agree with you. It is challenging to describe how to do some stitches in writing. Without video, many would be lost.

  • Thank you for such a clear demonstration! I've been perplexed for years...but now I'm able to fdc thanks to you. I don't think I can go back to chaining anymore...fdc looks so much neater.

  • I hav those same grips I get them fro school u can get them from a machine for $.25 there

  • Im only 12 and im making ipod socks for my friends :)

  • @Lolzorz96 You are a good friend to make ipods socks for your friends. Sounds like a fun project.

  • @crochet Im ADDICT TO IT hahahahaha

Could you make a video for making a ds case with game holders in it?(what yarn are you using in this video)TY

  • This has helped SO MUCH Thank you!

  • @Lolzorz96 You are welcome!

  • thank you! This is extremely helpful and I like that you just kept repeating the steps.

  • @meghanavoy I appreciate your feedback, thank you!

  • Am I the only one who reads the tabs?

  • Thank you very much this is GREAT

  • @ninja5411 Thank you! :)

  • i can make the first dcf fine, but i find it really hard to tell where you're supposed to then put the hook through for the second and so on, when you say 'put the yarn through the two loops at the opposite end' i just can't quite work out where that is :'(

  • @Mr12bagsofbaws Keep practicing and you will get the hang of the stitch

  • i really enjoy watching u crotchet it gives me a great feeling that i can do that too thumbs up for u

  • "put the hook through the first chain" is where I get lost. So much time to explain how to make a slip knot, but NO time to explain where the first chain is. I'm confused because every chain has three threads. I don't know where to put the hook in this maze of threads. The result is that I make a mess instead of pretty posts with chains at top and bottom. Help?

  • @david203 Since we have made two chains, you put your hook in the first chain, which is the second chain from the hook. If you are new to crochet, I recommend you practice with the basic crochet stitches and then come back to this technique later. This is not a technique that I recommend to beginners.

  • Why can't somebody make a video or a picture that shows the first two loops in a different color? I just cannot find the proper place in that maze of threads.

  • I don't know if it's been this way all along or just right now, but this has so many stops and starts, it took me 11 minutes to view 2:27 minutes of video. It seemed good and clear but just too hard to watch.

  • @linan516 You can try changing the viewing setting. You will see a little number on the bar below the video.

  • Such an easy flowing motion - it's quite addicting to make long foundation dc chains!

  • Hi! I don't think I'd ever been shown/seen this before. What sort of projects would you possibly recommend using this for in particular? Looking a little complicated for me just yet, but I am interested in giving it a go.

  • @breakingthisdown This is used to replace the chain on the foundation of a crochet row.

  • @breakingthisdown

Filet crochet, when the first row is just filled squares ;p

  • Slow motion? Seriously? Are people that slow that they need it slowed down?!

  • @pinkflyingcow55 The slow motion helps everyone see the stitch placement better. Sometimes it may be difficult to see at standard speed.

  • @pinkflyingcow55

I don't know about you, but when I began to crochet, and barely knew anything about what I was doing last year, this was too difficult for me.

Today, after one year of experience, I don't need slow motion either. Still no reason to knock it, or anyone who might need it.

  • I have watch several videos on making foundation double crochet. So far this one is the easiest to follow. I am curious though; why you only start with 2 chains when everyone else instructs to use 4 chains in order to get the correct height?

  • @imbrdntrd The chain I use are only the step up and part of the first stitch. The longer you make a chain, the more likely you are to have a hole. So by using less chain, you will reduce the chance of holes and gaps in your work.

  • I like starting my foundation with this process. Thanks for the video!

  • @freedomplease You are welcome! :)

  • Thank you. I think I'm gonna try the hat again.

  • @urmymom1 I hope it will work for you this time.

  • This is great!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!

  • i didn't know that you could start w/out chaining....cool

  • @bluegemini24 Yes, this is a nicer way to start and will give you an even foundation. I also have the Foundation Singe and Half Double Crochet posted as well.

  • This is awesome! I often wondered how this was done. You demonstrate it so well. Thank you!

  • @tburks0123 You are welcome!
