love this tune. I seem to remember a DJ playing this while signing off . Might have been on FM105.1 KBCA, Rick Holmes' Rick's Affair but I'm not sure.
You are exactly right all the way round! You must have lived in the LA area around that time. I'm from Compton, and it took a long time to get a copy of it but I did finally! [GLEN FROM COMPTON]
@glenalangarner @ glen...I totally agree a bad dude. I remember you singing this one. I never actually heard the recording. I love it. But you knew I would. LOL
clarence beeks was a waiter in a cincinnati club when he heard the late eddie jefferson doing his "vocalese" & jumped in for his few recordings as king pleasure., starting w/ his copy of eddie's "moody's mood for love".he then went off into some religious pursuits & hasn't been heard from since; he may still be on the planet. anyhow, this is one of the rarest of his 3 lps or so worth of tunes. i really dig his rendition of "all of me".
@zhokandawe You're absolutely right about "All of Me"--it's one of the best versions of the song ever made. It swings, it's funny, it's irresistable! Thirty years ago I did a paper on him in college. I was able to talk to the owner of the Old Wells Record Shop who told me Beeks had gotten into junk and was "parking cars in LA, according to the last rumor". That was roughly a year before he died. There was no way for me to confirm that (this being years before the internet).
Thanks to my dear friend for sending this one,,lol,,,how appropriate these lyrics are...yep,what a terrible feeling..lol..thanks pixie .xx......but Miss P is worth more ;(
Thanks so much for posting this--he was one of the hippest guys to walk the planet! Do you have "Tomorrow's Another Day" from his "Golden Days" album?
@kevinherbert Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. We've had a death in the family, other problems, and I honestly was only going thru my inbox here tonight! I have it on an LP, and I was given one of those players that turns it into something the computer can use. But I'd be lying if I said I'd be getting to it any time soon. Would it be possible for you to download it here on YouTube? Again, my apology for not having seen your offer sooner. Thanks very much for the offer.
@CriticalListener : my condolences.... no problems at all. I'm not very advanced technically...however, I DO know how to copy using my CD writer..so if you want a copy, just send me your mailing address, and I'll have one to you within a month FOC...no sweat either way.
clarence beeks was also the name of a character in the movie "Trading Places". Wonder if that was by design or just a coincidence.
