my Widows folder is 10.9GB would you pleas tell me the reason??
also my brother is using the same laptop with windows 7 ultimate faster than me even though im using Window 7 starter does that relates to the programs you talked about (Abode reader, Norton, MS office 2007) i only need the smooth & fast running for my notebook so pleas help
@ESLAM0111067548 It depends on what you install in your PC. The lighter the apps the better. Try using Web Apps than traditional apps so you won't use a lot of hard disk space. The Windows folder uses up about 5GB (I suppose, the first install makes 7GB on default). If your using a new laptop. Find a Tech Expert to reformat it for you so you will have the defaults... Without those extra software that you don't really need... Reply to this message please.
@deitykush Windows DVD Maker is not available in the Starter and Home Basic Editions of Windows 7 and Windows Live Movie Maker will not have the DVD Burning feature in these editions. There are alternatives live Freemake Video Converter & DVDStyler. Try one of them and see what you like...
now you can install libreoffice i know this because i use arch linux and ubuntu oh yea i still do like windows when you got windows and a linux distro who needs mac os x when got both linux and windows :)
@kieronowns for me, it's MSE has a small installer file. AVG has 100mb! I use MSE always since I'm tired of using AVG for 2 weeks. It's your choice, choose one.
I actually try to run win 7 ultimate on my netbook it takes about 20% more resource than win 7 starter, the problem is it getting slow, now im dual boot win 7 starter and une 10.04.
@TheJavaowl I know. I'm just making my point that, having Windows 7 Starter is fine as long as your having fun with it. Actually this is also my list of favorite apps for laptops and desktops.

What the best free anti-virus for win 7 starter ?
TheJavaowl 1 year ago
@TheJavaowl
MIcrosoft Security Essentials - easy to install if you have genuine and it is very lite. I use it myself
Avast 5 - even not genuine but you need to register every year
AVG Free - it takes 2 hours just to update and costs space
I do not recommend Avira, the free version has nagware (nags you to upgrade to pro version)

@TheJavaowl I virtualized Windows 7 Ultimate with 512 RAM. It works fine but bitterly slow.
