@sngncwby I like a lot of different pickups but you never really know how it will sound until you put it in your particular guitar as no 2 guitars are exactly alike...but yes, I really like both of these pickups...
nice guitar but the classic is not a reissue of a 1960 les paul. it just says it on the pickguard. it has swiss cheese holes in it, and a shot neck tenon.
@JKryanX Depends what year...these older ones were solid...the newer ones were swiss cheesed (which I actually like...I love Semi-Hollows and it gets you a kind of Semi-Hollow-ish Les Paul which is not for everybody and especially not the purists but I love the weight relief and the sound of them cranked with some gain on the verge of feeding back)...not sure about the short or long neck tenon but it was still a very nice guitar. Thanks for watching!
@greengtrs i love all your vids. but im going to shed some light on usa les pauls for you. all non reissue les pauls (classics are not reissues) since the mid 80's have been weight relived, most by swiss cheese holes. then later the standars and studios were chambered. if you want to verify this go to the lespaulforum. there is a whole page with all the les paul specs.
@JKryanX That is something I had forgotten about...I remember having to take a test back in the late 80's...I was working at their biggest (single store location) dealer...they wanted us extremely knowledgeable and there were prizes if you scored high...I think I got a cheesey nylon jacket...(let me know if you're interested...lol), and aside from having to know all the different pickups available (which I've also pretty much forgotten), that was on there also...thanks for refreshing my memory!
@greengtrs well its not your fault, gibson actually didnt admit to putting holes in the body til someone randomly x-ray'd a les paul and saw the holes. i think that was some time in the 90's and gibson was getting trashed in the p.r. department. and finally they admitted that they had been doing it since the early/mid 80's
@JKryanX I really can't remember exactly when the test was (it was only once) but by '92 I had already graduated to a leather Gibson jacket from a sales contest (I finished in the top 3% in the Country for electrics and somehow got top honors with the acoustics...I don't know how...I didn't sell that many Gibson acoustics...I guess no one was selling many back then). Gibson has always been inconsistent as far as quality, but if you try enough of them, you can find some really good ones.
@JKryanX It's a "'60s-flavored" Standard. When the Classic was released in '93, it was actually more "period-correct" than the actual pre-historic '60 RI. It's the poor man's R0.:)

@greengtrs sweet thank you so much! what's you're business called and where is it at? do you have a website? i'll definitely send people you're way my man
@bassandguitargreg - If I were you, I'd forget the '57 Classic and go with a SD Seth Lover or Antiquity. I think you'll be much-happier. I have Seth Lovers and they're great. LOVE the bridge-p/u especially. It's got that midrange 'honk' of the early PAF. I think both of these actually cost LESS than the '57 Classic, and they're just so-much-better in my opinion.
@bassandguitargreg - For a vintage Les Paul tone, I prefer to stick with lower-output humbuckers rather than high-output (which are good for metal, but horrible for vintage tones. Fralin makes great p/u's, as does S. Duncan (My Seth Lovers were $100 each and they're awesome). If you REALLY-wanted to go crazy, you could get the best PAF-repros on the planet - Throbak PAF's. Jon Gundry scored a couple of original pickup-winding machines that were used to make the original, late '50's Gibson PAF's.
@SmashingPumpkinsTV Do you play more clean or more distorted? What's your budget? How important are the looks? Do you want an arched top? What about pickups...Humnuckers, Mini Humbuckers, or P-90's?
@SmashingPumpkinsTV Try to keep saving up and look for a used Les Paul Special...make sure it is a version with P-90's...they had done some reissues back in the mid to late 90's that you should be able to find in maybe the $600-$800 range...less if it is beat up (my favorites as long as they are still working)...headstock breaks will bring the value down even more but as long as they are repaired well/correctly, they are no big deal...so settle for worn in with vintage vibe and you'll keep it!
Please dude, i want some new pickups for my les paul studio, i want a kind of hot pickup, very good in distortion and in clean... but i don't know what pickup i want...
@Neylus Try a Duncan JB (Bridge)/Jazz (neck) set...very common and you can probably find them used for cheap...the camcorder is a JVC GR-D850 miniDV...
I prefer alnico II p/u's over alnico V's (a big part of why I love gold-tops so-much). Alnico II's are warmer with more midrange and a smoother top-end (a little less bite than a '59 PAF). On my Les Paul (a copy with a Honduras mahogany body/neck and a maple top), I installed SD Seth Lover p/u's and it sounds awesome. Great sustain. When I play other guitars, I miss mine. I'm dying to get a pair of Throbak PAF's (Real-deal PAF's wound using the same machine as the originals and NOS parts).
My dream is to get a '57 gold-top (Not a '59 like everybody else......). I love the '59's too. I mean, who doesn't love the flame-top on an old '59? But I prefer the SOUND of the earlier alnico II PAF's in the gold-tops. Plus, I love the gold-top look. I think it's just as cool, but in a different way. When Duane Allman traded his gold-top for the '58 Burst (which he later played on "At Fillmore East"), part of the deal was that he could swap the pickups in order to keep that gold-top tone.
You need to get another guitar player to come in and demo some of those guitars. I have played for 35+ years myself so the rambling you do makes sense to me but some people will want to hear how the pickups sound when you kick it into hi gain. I have a 1975 Deluxe that is a different hue of gold than what you have there. It's no doubt aged a bit more and you can see green showing through the checking.
@ellioteaston93 I sold Gibson's (at authorized dealers) for 15 years in stores and I've done this for about 4 now...but this guitar is long gone and I can't remember all the different colors and the differences...there were so many names and Gibson would call one color one thing and Fender would call the exact same color something else...now my mind is turning to mush and I had to expunge some of it to make room for all the children's songs my kids like to sing...gotta promote a love of music!
@theguitarguymike That would be more to my liking too...I've never really liked the look of Gold-Tops myself...well...sometimes I do...if it's a darker/more orange-ish color with a natural back...but a nice and faded out/flamey '59 would be great! All the guitars in the backround are gone and the amps are not for sale... :-( I have a new batch of guitars these days and I'm always buying/selling/trading so subscribe to get a heads up on what will be for sale before it hits my eBay store. Thanks!
@greengtrs Haha that would be awesome if u did...and i like the color of a 59'...its not like anyother...it looks real gold....not spray painted like the ones now! And i will subscribe!
Really nice guitar and review :). It is one of my dream guitars, a nice les paul gold top! Unfortunately a gibson is too much for me...! Probably going with a Tokai. You seem to be a very honest person, continue to help people in getting some nice guitars :D
@cameronc20 I can't fix a 2 (plus) year old video...I am getting better at what I do but the main thing here is usually to show a guitar that I'm selling...not about showing off my playing...at least if it says demo/review in the title. I'll put up some songs soon if you really want to hear my playing or look for the ones that have looping (search for looping and greengtrs and you'll get a long list) to hear more flowing jamming...I have more fun with those...I jam a bit toward the end here 2.
@MultiRockmeister Most of the guitars you see me playing are for the business end of things...only a few are personal guitars...the green PRS Ltd Ed Signature series Semi-Hollow and a (custom ordered) Taylor 712E...almost everything else I've demoed has been for sale...subscribe (you get a heads up before I post them for sale as I make a video first) and maybe I can find a cool guitar for you one day...thanks for watching!
@jungvonnebenan lol...I have a lot of videos on here but I knew what it was going to be as soon as I saw the comment posted in my emails...I almost always do that when I make "A" form bar chords...it's unintentional but it can be funny or insulting depending on how uptight my audience is and whether they think it's directed at them...and some people always think everything is directed at them...
@benj7462 These demo's aren't about my playing...they are about showing/reviewing the various guitars that I'm (usually) selling. If it's a just for fun/jamming/looping video (which I do occasionally), then I will take your advice.
@greengtrs yeah but a lot of the stuff you say is pretty redundant. like we all know the fender is a tube amp. we all know that the middle switch uses both humbuckers. etc etc etc.
@logen99999 I try (and I'll continue to try to get better)...it's all trial and error and (hopefully) learning form my mistakes...but I don't want to take for granted that the father of the 14 year old boy who might buy this (not this one but some other guitar I may be selling in the future) knows as much as most players here do...and I can't tell you how many times I get asked what amp I use (which I put in the written description under each video)...I'll keep working at getting better though.
@greengtrs I think its a good idea that you mention the amp and the settings for the amp and guitar each time. For people tuning in their first time, they wouldn't know. I don't think its a big deal to listen to that for repeat listeners. I find your videos helpful. I know when I watch a video and the settings are not listed I always wonder what gear they are using and what settings they are on.
Wait... you made your guitar look worn out on purpose? You gotta earn that wear & tear, my friend. Otherwise you're trying to be something you're not, and to what end?
@GhostOfAE You didn't listen...I didn't do it nor do I ever relic a guitar to make it look old, I was simply showing a guitar I was selling...I agree with you...you shouldn't do it on purpose but what does happen with normal wear and tear playing, is earned or deserved. Thanks for watching, please check out some of my others.
dude, relic smelic. with tone like that. pearly gates...........billy gibbons tone knocks me on my ass. I love vintage tone. I did the same to my sg standard. dropped in 57 classics, tone pro bridge, orange drop caps cts pots. It sounds sick. that lindy fralin sounds awesome as well. I would have like to own that gem dude.Anyway keep rocking............
I didn't get that much because of the relic job...and that it wasn't all stock...more people buy for looks than buy for actual sound (or feel). I think I got around $1400 for it (from memory). Thanks for watching and for your comments!
Don't relic a LP Classic!!!! These guitars from the factory were one of the best playing/sounding LP's. Relic a Epiphone or a studio or Jr etc... Not a Classic!
I didn't relic this in case you weren't paying attention...I buy and sell guitars for a living and this is one of the many that passed through my hands. But if Gibson can sell relics (for a lot more money I might add), then why can't people relic there own guitars? If that is the look someone wants, then who is anyone else to give them a hard time about it. I personally love to "relic" mine naturally over years (and decades) of my own playing (complete with the accidental bumps that go with it).
Hey, no worries man. It's good. There's a market for everything and the early aged/patina look on the neck PU does look cool. I think the CLassic LP is just such a unique LP that a fella would want to keep the original PU's.
Straight up, I almost never tinker with a good Gibson myself...if I have chosen it, usually it is because I liked the sound of it and don't want to mess with anything. This was actually a good friend of mines...and he is a tinkerer...he likes to mess with everything...he's a real hands on kind of guy...and he can fix just about anything, so he probably looks for stuff to fix even when it doesn't really need to be. I really liked the Fralin pickup but I wasn't crazy about the relic job overall...
#1) I buy and sell used guitars...I take pride in choosing "players" guitars over just the easy sell Mint or Collectible stuff...this one sounded and played great to me so I bought it...I played it with my eyes closed and it passed that test...and dings, dents, and scratches don't bother me at all...
#2) God isn't really like that...
#3) For someone who posted such a cool piano piece, I wouldn't expect such a "potty-mouth" comment.
Your sound has a great, tight attack. How much of that would you say comes from your pickups? Im thinking of putting a pearly gates in my les paul studio. I play through a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 with 4 Celestion G12-75 speakers. The 498T pickup I have feels mushy to me.
I would suggest you check out a bunch of my other videos...usually the same amp with the same settings...but many different guitars with different pickups...then you can determine if it's my playing style or amp or maybe the pickups. I have used Pearly Gates before and liked them a lot (but that was before I started doing these video demos). There are a lot of pickups I like though...and they all have their own personalities...
changing pickups in a Les paul from high output ceramic magnet type to medium output alnico magnet type is NOT a "slight mod" it would drastically change the sound
Yeah it does change the sound, but you can change it right back if you don't like it (and you would never really be able to tell that it happened (aside from the evidence of extra solder marks on the pots unless you were so good at that to the point where no one could tell it wasn't original). Believe me, there are bigger and more permanently scarring mods done to guitars all the time...pickups I consider to be pretty minor (unless you were to add one that wasn't there to begin with.
but it is a alight modification, vecause when you say heavily modded, peopel think you put in a fender type bridge or something, lol or fixed the pickups on Reverse Polarity. It is a slight modification, the sound that follows is judged drastic by some but its still a slight mod
Thanks! I've got one here too...but it was shot with a different (better) camera...it's the "2003 Gibson Les Paul Classic Demo"...I'll post it here as a video response...feel free to post yours here as well.
Back in the 60's My dad has this same guitar.. I think it was a '57.. somewhere around that. He was in a band, and his drummer was the sound guy for Beetle Mania, and he put in a third pick up for it. It sounded exactly like the Almond Brother's rhythm guitar. His friend borrowed it, and got into a car crash. It was ruined.
RIP LEGEND GUITAR, my friend who i consider an uncle to me, hes fairly older then me :O has a Original not a re-issue 1957 Gold top, When i played that guitar it's got like a life of its own.
hey... just for information: they don`t use bumblebees in the reissues. they just look like them but are in fact little restistors which are put in a big bumblebee shell. just for look. if you really look for the bumblebee tone, buy an original for about 100, 150 $.
These were in fact bought after the fact as this is just a "Classic" and not an "R" series...are you telling me (and are you sure) that they don't use actual Bumblebee's in the "R" series?
I agree. The bumblebee's Gibson is installing are bumblebee is appearance only. I've compared the originals to the reissues. Not even close. The closest Ive found is Hovland. No I'm not promoting nor representing anything but originality in tone from experience. Hoveland is the place to look. Sorry custome shop owners not the real deal.
Classic's are just Standard's with a thinner neck and hotter uncovered pickups aside from the aged/greenish binding and inlays...sometimes they write Classic on the truss rod cover or 1960 on the pickguard too...
It's funny because the whole time you're playing I'm thinking it sounds like you should be playing a Tele. Nice guitar, but it doesn't suit your playing somehow.
That is kind of funny...while I don't generally play a Tele much (although I really like them these days), I play a Les Paul even less...I'm more of a Junior or Special...even Melody Maker kind of guy...for the last 18 years I have played my green PRS Semi-Hollow w/trem most of the time and a Strat and assorted other guitars the rest...almost never a Les Paul Standard style guitar though.
Thanks! Mostly I use either natural minor or pentatonic scales but I throw in some harmonic or melodic minor stuff here or there...I really don't think about it...I just play...whatever comes to mind and when I'm really going, I try and "shut the mind down" and just let it happen.
I'm generally not one to swap the pickups out of a Gibson as I usually like their pickups...I got it like this...but I have to admit it gets a wider range of sounds than normal and I did like the sound of it...I would probably be inclined to get some more Fralin's if I ever had the need...great customer service there...
hey. its kristofferpence. the one who you said turned you on to monty byrom haha. how are the fralins. you like them. ive got a brand new VOS 59 les paul still with stock pickups. i have SD antiquities in my custom shop '60 reissue. i love them. but i want to try something different in this next paul
Hey back! Monty is amazing and I go back to his videos often...I love his take on Dear Prudence! I am not much on changing out pickups on Gibson's...I generally like their stock pickups (and I would think a VOS should sound great as is...), but I do really like the Fralin's...and I like the company...you can call in and get really personal service. I've had him do some repairs to avoid having to replace vintage pickups (which I didn't want to do)...fast and very fair pricing. I recommend them!
No...but for what it is worth, I was conceived just outside of Athens...now I guess I need to listen to some Cretan music to hear what you meant. Any suggestions on where to start (maybe send me a message with a video linked to it...)?
I really love that Fralin PAF in the neck. to me it sounds better than the current Gib 57 classics. To my ear it actually sounds more like an original PAF without the multi $1000 price tag. Thanks Howard.
Thanks! Not only have I been highly impressed with a lot of his pickups over the years (starting with his domino single coils in the old PRS EG's), they also do great repair work on broken pickups. I've had them repair one of the pickups in an old '75 Strat and one of the newer Noiseless from a '98 Tele Deluxe...both times were pretty fast turnaround and very reasonable in the charges...and if I ever need pickups in something, I'll probably go there first...they pretty much do whatever you want.
For what it's worth, I generally like stock Gibson pickups, but I'm not too crazy about the pickups that come in a Classic myself...too much "bite" for a decent clean sound...I prefer Standards too...but as far as value goes, changing pickups and pots can easily be put back to original and in most cases is considered an upgrade. The value killer here was the relic'ing job done to the top to make it look old...which is funny because if Gibson does it it costs an extra $2000. Thanks for watching!
one of the best demos of les paul tone Iv heard,I think the pickups make a big difference, the standard ones tend to lack a little definition and a bit muddy,I have a pearly gates in mine and it has hardly any magnetic pull but its loader, sustains longer, and clear like a bell compared to standard gibo.
Classic has the slim '60 neck, greenish tinted inlays (why?), and the hottest humbuckers Gibson has seen fit to put in a guitar. The 500T and 496R, ceramic magnet. The classic is set up for rock and roll, the standard is more of an all-arounder.
I have the same guitar and hate the pups. Do you still like these?

LOVE the bridge-p/u especially. It's got that midrange 'honk' of the early PAF. I think both of these actually cost LESS than the '57 Classic, and they're just so-much-better in my opinion.
gangtwanger 1 year ago
@bassandguitargreg - For a vintage Les Paul tone, I prefer to stick with lower-output humbuckers rather than high-output (which are good for metal, but horrible for vintage tones. Fralin makes great p/u's, as does S. Duncan (My Seth Lovers were $100 each and they're awesome). If you REALLY-wanted to go crazy, you could get the best PAF-repros on the planet - Throbak PAF's. Jon Gundry scored a couple of original pickup-winding machines that were used to make the original, late '50's Gibson PAF's.

What Les Paul should I get do you think for someone is average and has been playing about two years? I'm looking for a nice easy blues kind of sound.
SmashingPumpkinsTV 1 year ago
@SmashingPumpkinsTV Do you play more clean or more distorted? What's your budget? How important are the looks? Do you want an arched top? What about pickups...Humnuckers, Mini Humbuckers, or P-90's?
greengtrs 1 year ago
@greengtrs Distorted, about 4 or 5 hundred, and Important, No, and I prefer P-90's
SmashingPumpkinsTV 1 year ago
@SmashingPumpkinsTV Try to keep saving up and look for a used Les Paul Special...make sure it is a version with P-90's...they had done some reissues back in the mid to late 90's that you should be able to find in maybe the $600-$800 range...less if it is beat up (my favorites as long as they are still working)...headstock breaks will bring the value down even more but as long as they are repaired well/correctly, they are no big deal...so settle for worn in with vintage vibe and you'll keep it!

eselnagual 1 year ago
I prefer alnico II p/u's over alnico V's (a big part of why I love gold-tops so-much). Alnico II's are warmer with more midrange and a smoother top-end (a little less bite than a '59 PAF). On my Les Paul (a copy with a Honduras mahogany body/neck and a maple top), I installed SD Seth Lover p/u's and it sounds awesome. Great sustain. When I play other guitars, I miss mine. I'm dying to get a pair of Throbak PAF's (Real-deal PAF's wound using the same machine as the originals and NOS parts).
gangtwanger 1 year ago
My dream is to get a '57 gold-top (Not a '59 like everybody else......). I love the '59's too. I mean, who doesn't love the flame-top on an old '59? But I prefer the SOUND of the earlier alnico II PAF's in the gold-tops. Plus, I love the gold-top look. I think it's just as cool, but in a different way. When Duane Allman traded his gold-top for the '58 Burst (which he later played on "At Fillmore East"), part of the deal was that he could swap the pickups in order to keep that gold-top tone.

is this the bullion gold??
ellioteaston93 1 year ago
You need to get another guitar player to come in and demo some of those guitars. I have played for 35+ years myself so the rambling you do makes sense to me but some people will want to hear how the pickups sound when you kick it into hi gain. I have a 1975 Deluxe that is a different hue of gold than what you have there. It's no doubt aged a bit more and you can see green showing through the checking.
You have a cool job.

is this the bullion gold?
ellioteaston93 1 year ago
@ellioteaston93 I sold Gibson's (at authorized dealers) for 15 years in stores and I've done this for about 4 now...but this guitar is long gone and I can't remember all the different colors and the differences...there were so many names and Gibson would call one color one thing and Fender would call the exact same color something else...now my mind is turning to mush and I had to expunge some of it to make room for all the children's songs my kids like to sing...gotta promote a love of music!
greengtrs 1 year ago
@ellioteaston93 I think it is. The formula with gold is clearer and don´t turn green.

theguitarguymike 1 year ago
@theguitarguymike That would be more to my liking too...I've never really liked the look of Gold-Tops myself...well...sometimes I do...if it's a darker/more orange-ish color with a natural back...but a nice and faded out/flamey '59 would be great! All the guitars in the backround are gone and the amps are not for sale... :-( I have a new batch of guitars these days and I'm always buying/selling/trading so subscribe to get a heads up on what will be for sale before it hits my eBay store. Thanks!

Oh my God, that Lindy Fralin pickup sounds incredible! It's the exact kind of tone I'm looking for from my neck pickup.
I wish all the Lindy Fralin pickups could just be 4-conductor because I like doing series and parallel wiring with push/pull pots.

@cameronc20 I can't fix a 2 (plus) year old video...I am getting better at what I do but the main thing here is usually to show a guitar that I'm selling...not about showing off my playing...at least if it says demo/review in the title. I'll put up some songs soon if you really want to hear my playing or look for the ones that have looping (search for looping and greengtrs and you'll get a long list) to hear more flowing jamming...I have more fun with those...I jam a bit toward the end here 2.

greengtrs 1 year ago
@greengtrs yeah but a lot of the stuff you say is pretty redundant. like we all know the fender is a tube amp. we all know that the middle switch uses both humbuckers. etc etc etc.
logen99999 1 year ago
@logen99999 I try (and I'll continue to try to get better)...it's all trial and error and (hopefully) learning form my mistakes...but I don't want to take for granted that the father of the 14 year old boy who might buy this (not this one but some other guitar I may be selling in the future) knows as much as most players here do...and I can't tell you how many times I get asked what amp I use (which I put in the written description under each video)...I'll keep working at getting better though.
greengtrs 1 year ago
@greengtrs I think its a good idea that you mention the amp and the settings for the amp and guitar each time. For people tuning in their first time, they wouldn't know. I don't think its a big deal to listen to that for repeat listeners. I find your videos helpful. I know when I watch a video and the settings are not listed I always wonder what gear they are using and what settings they are on.

@GhostOfAE You didn't listen...I didn't do it nor do I ever relic a guitar to make it look old, I was simply showing a guitar I was selling...I agree with you...you shouldn't do it on purpose but what does happen with normal wear and tear playing, is earned or deserved. Don't relic a LP Classic!!!! These guitars from the factory were one of the best playing/sounding LP's. Relic a Epiphone or a studio or Jr etc... Not a Classic!
IdahoAngler2 1 year ago
I didn't relic this in case you weren't paying attention...I buy and sell guitars for a living and this is one of the many that passed through my hands. But if Gibson can sell relics (for a lot more money I might add), then why can't people relic there own guitars? If that is the look someone wants, then who is anyone else to give them a hard time about it. I personally love to "relic" mine naturally over years (and decades) of my own playing (complete with the accidental bumps that go with it).
greengtrs 1 year ago
Hey, no worries man. It's good. There's a market for everything and the early aged/patina look on the neck PU does look cool. I think the CLassic LP is just such a unique LP that a fella would want to keep the original PU's.
IdahoAngler2 1 year ago
Straight up, I almost never tinker with a good Gibson myself...if I have chosen it, usually it is because I liked the sound of it and don't want to mess with anything. This was actually a good friend of mines...and he is a tinkerer...he likes to mess with everything...he's a real hands on kind of guy...and he can fix just about anything, so he probably looks for stuff to fix even when it doesn't really need to be. I really liked the Fralin pickup but I wasn't crazy about the relic job overall...
greengtrs 1 year ago
#1) I buy and sell used guitars...I take pride in choosing "players" guitars over just the easy sell Mint or Collectible stuff...this one sounded and played great to me so I bought it...I played it with my eyes closed and it passed that test...and dings, dents, and scratches don't bother me at all...
#2) God isn't really like that...
#3) For someone who posted such a cool piano piece, I wouldn't expect such a "potty-mouth" comment.
#4) Guitars are just tools...not idols...
God hates that...

Your sound has a great, tight attack. How much of that would you say comes from your pickups? Im thinking of putting a pearly gates in my les paul studio. I play through a Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 with 4 Celestion G12-75 speakers. The 498T pickup I have feels mushy to me.
bigfish0804 1 year ago
Thanks!
I would suggest you check out a bunch of my other videos...usually the same amp with the same settings...but many different guitars with different pickups...then you can determine if it's my playing style or amp or maybe the pickups. I have used Pearly Gates before and liked them a lot (but that was before I started doing these video demos). There are a lot of pickups I like though...and they all have their own personalities...

changing pickups in a Les paul from high output ceramic magnet type to medium output alnico magnet type is NOT a "slight mod" it would drastically change the sound
solerso68 2 years ago
Yeah it does change the sound, but you can change it right back if you don't like it (and you would never really be able to tell that it happened (aside from the evidence of extra solder marks on the pots unless you were so good at that to the point where no one could tell it wasn't original). Believe me, there are bigger and more permanently scarring mods done to guitars all the time...pickups I consider to be pretty minor (unless you were to add one that wasn't there to begin with.
greengtrs 2 years ago
but it is a alight modification, vecause when you say heavily modded, peopel think you put in a fender type bridge or something, lol or fixed the pickups on Reverse Polarity. It is a slight modification, the sound that follows is judged drastic by some but its still a slight mod

It was ruined.

hey... just for information: they don`t use bumblebees in the reissues. they just look like them but are in fact little restistors which are put in a big bumblebee shell. just for look. if you really look for the bumblebee tone, buy an original for about 100, 150 $.
LesPaul25189 2 years ago
These were in fact bought after the fact as this is just a "Classic" and not an "R" series...are you telling me (and are you sure) that they don't use actual Bumblebee's in the "R" series?
greengtrs 2 years ago
The current bumblebee's are a fake. They're standard caps with the external apparence of bumble's. Try to X-ray them ;-)
malandros 2 years ago
Aw man...my X-ray machine is on the fritz at the moment! Is there any other way to tell?
greengtrs 2 years ago

Classic has the slim '60 neck, greenish tinted inlays (why?), and the hottest humbuckers Gibson has seen fit to put in a guitar. The 500T and 496R, ceramic magnet. The classic is set up for rock and roll, the standard is more of an all-arounder.
