Such a misunderstood movie! Michael Myers died in Halloween 2 and John Carpenter had enough of him. He wanted to turn the franchise into a big screen horror anthology like "Creepshow", "Heavy Metal", "Tales from The Darkside", "Grindhouse" or "Twilight Zone" of different halloween themed horror movies.

The character Michael Myers was supposed to die in H2. It's true what you said about John wanting make a Halloween themed film every year and H3 was that test. H3 tanked in box office and because of that, they decided to bring back Michael.

lets put it this way. if the halloween franchise would have carried on from this part it could have been one of the great sagas ever, each part being a completely different story, however the public hated the fact michael myers was in it. i actually think this is an underated classic
