I have a pair of Realistic Optimus 2B from around 1975. The drivers are perfect and cabinets nearly perfect - I obtained them recently, they were part of an Estate sale, so I suspect they were rarely used and well cared for. They sound fantastic!
TNo I sold stereo from 1967 until 1985. No American manufacture ever made a grille like that. But they look and sound just like speakers made in Japan by Pioneer and Sansui around 1970. They will last forever and they don't have boomy bass.
Long ago when dinosaurs walked the earth, I ran a Radio Shack store. The Nova 6 was introduced in 1978 and sold until I don't quite remember when. Many thought they were crap because they were sold out of RS stores. But the Nova series, despite dated (even for the time) styling, were solid boxes. Drivers and components were distinctly better-than-average for their price points and the enclosures were VERY well made. I remember them as sounding somewhat "forward" - not unlike old Altecs.

This one looks awesome. Do you know much about vintage speakers?
I got a pair from 1976 (Kenwood KL888D) for $100. Is this a good price regarding it's nice looking 16" Subwoofer? :D
They work pretty great and stuff but are they worth $100?
Hey and anyway: do you have some Speakers left? If you don't need 'em i could take care of them. Unlike other users I would NEVER think about blowing them! :)
im trying to sell 2 pairs of the nova 7bs for $65 a pair, for some reason i havent gotten any hits? they have 10 inch woofers and 2 tweeters, and an adjustment on the back. Are these crap??
@banksstinger I'd check Ebay for more speakers. Some vintage speakers go anywhere from 50-500$, I don't know how much they are in Value, but I sold a pair of vintage Sansui speakers from the 60s for 120$
@banksstinger My mom still has 2 Nova 7Bs connected to a `77 realistic receiver that my dad bought in `77. No they are not crap, they sound great! Probably just not well known.
@banksstinger Not crap at all. They suffer from the Realistic brand, a Radio Shack name, but actually, they were very well made speakers, as in good materials, very solid construction. They sound pretty good as I remember, but not great. Back in the day, there were competing brands offering products with better sound at that price point, such as dynaco, AR, KLH, Advent. But at that price, the Nova series offered much better than average MDF construction and top-notch walnut veneer, not vinyl.
@banksstinger "im trying to sell 2 pairs of the nova 7bs for $65 a pair, for some reason i havent gotten any hits? ...Are these crap??"
I think you are pricing them TOO LOW, believe it or not. There is a psychology to pricing. Some old timer who knows what these are might snap them up as a bargain. People who DON'T know what these are - who aren't old enough to know, for example - will pass them by because they think they can't be any good at that price.
I still have a pair of those that I bought new - for my mother! Yup - I paid for the speakers and she paid for the receiver (also a Realistic). She stopped using the system years ago, and now I have it. She said "sell it", but I can't get myself to do it. Still impressed at how good they sound, no foam rot issues, and they were only $80/pr NEW.
I have a pair of those vintage Realistics. However, mine are a different model. I have always been fascinated with the grilles on those vintage speakers. Thanks for sharing.
i got some really old savard speakers and the are fucking awsome i just need some new sub woofers for them any body selling some 10 inch subs hit me up
Those are the Nova 6's, theyh also made 7's, I had a pair of the Nova 8's - 12" three way and they were much better quality than I expected - I bought them for half price new when they were discontinuing them in the 70's--my first "quality" speaker purchase. the 8's had killer woofers, and are highly sought after today because of their extremely solid built real wood veneer cabints. You install some nice drivers and the cabinets will make them sound really solid. RS also made a 15" Mach- II
i had these speakers they were pretty good got them for free at a garage sale when bought these other pair of speakers and the guy just said have these lol well i blew them.
Aren't they the Quarteto? Strange... It really seems to be the same speakers I have... if they r from Gradiente, i'm pretty sure the model is "Quarteto"
These vintage speakers made me dance so hard that my tits fell off then mother glued them back on with Michael Jackson's jesus juice but my cock got big and sister saw it
I used to have those speakers. I hate that I sold them now. They are definitely from the at least the early to mid 70's. My parents bought them used back then and I ended up with them. And there was nothing wrong with them when I sold them a couple of years ago. Very well made.
At the local Thrift-Mart. I have scored lots of perfect condition amps and speakers from there. I even used to have a pair of those Telefunken speakers, but i gave those away to a teen for $20, argh, he probably blew them by now. Some other old speakers I have had are Candles, Panasonic Thrusters, floor standing Sanyo's, Dynacos, and a pair of Scott's.
what amp are you using here it looks like a nice amp i am looking for a small amp for my garage, nothing fancy, but vintage.
