Excellent video! I have read up on the Cajuns of Louisiana. I am of the century year old Hispanos/Spanish Americans of Northern New Mexico and Souther Colorado. We, too, have tried to preserve our distinct culture. Like many Cajuns, my grandparents were forced to speak English in schools and in a sense lost their native language. My friends and I have been trying to learn the unique Spanish dialect of our stat that our parents never learned.
This is a great video eunicela. Thanks so much for sharing this with everyone. I just bought "The Gospel Accordion to Marc" to help me in my learning to play my new Cajun accordion.
It's a really good teaching/learning/listening CD. I've spoken with Marc on the phone a few times, and the one thing that I can say best about him is when he speaks to you, he talks to you like you're family. He really does have that "down-home" etiquette.
I love Marc and Ann Savoy. They are so down to earth and play awesome music. Wish they could have played on the video. One day I hope to visit Eunice and see them. I met Marc at a festival some years ago and he invited me to stop by his music center there.
The web address is krvs with the org extension (YouTube won't let me type in the direct address). The show starts at 6 p.m. Central time. Among the upcoming programs: on Aug. 18, Vorance Barzas and the Original Mamou Playboys (Tina Pilione and Kevin Barzas), with special guest Steve Riley. And the two bands in the video will be back in July: Hubert Maitre and Horace Trahan on July 14 and Bonsoir, Catin on July 28.
Every show since the beginning has been broadcast on 1490 am in Eunice, and on the 1490 am website with live streaming audio too. For some strange reason, though, the radio station that has broadcast every show since the beginning (even the ones KRVS does not carry) never gets mentioned.
Bravo les cajuns!! Les acadiens et cousins du nord vous aiment.
